£1,500 on a wedding dress…

I know the answer is your money, it’s up to you.

It made me feel like a goddess… Third marriage, aged 46, seems like a ridiculous idea. Would you do it? Tried cheaper, a couple more high street options on order but this was the one…

In my defence, first wedding was a rental dress, second no new clothes, just dressed up. Both were situational marriages, this one is a proper one for love, after spending almost 20 years together.

OP posts:

Given that you spent nothing significant on your first 2 wedding dresses, if you imagine you'd split the cost of this dress over all 3 weddings you'll have had in total, it's bargainous really - only £500!

😂 you do math exactly like I do.

OP buy it, it's gorgeous. If you dye it a different colour after the wedding you can wear it to parties and save even more money.

MyFavouritePlace · 13/03/2024 08:34

Absolutely do it. It's a beautiful dress. I really regret not spending more on mine.

ooooohnoooooo · 13/03/2024 08:51

That is a beautiful dress. Go for it. You'll look and feel amazing. ❤️

LadyBird1973 · 13/03/2024 08:59

@onawave and @Gibs0nGirl
This way of thinking justifies quite a few of my purchases tbh Grin

Gibs0nGirl · 13/03/2024 09:09

Oh same 😁

Nap1983 · 13/03/2024 09:11

spottydinosaur · 13/03/2024 09:18

The dress is stunning! Go for it & have no regrets Smile

ILoveToads · 13/03/2024 09:20

It's a stunning dress, I would buy it.

stardust777 · 13/03/2024 09:33

Lovely dress OP! If you're worried about the cost, would you consider selling it after the wedding?

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 13/03/2024 11:09

Do it, OP! You won't regret it if you do. You may regret it if you don't.

It's gorgeous.

isthismylifenow · 13/03/2024 11:32

That dress is so beautiful. Your first choice, that is. I am not as taken by the second one you posted.

All2Well · 13/03/2024 11:41

My instinct for everyone else is "go for it!"

For me, now I'm older (40), I could easily see myself being very "practical" and getting something from the Monsoon sale or something. Behind that very practical feeling is a whole lot of hurt and embarassment (at never being a blushing young bride & the various experiences that led to this point, watching everyone else marry and being the last), low self esteem, a weird stinginess towards myself...

Point being, I can understand how we get to the point of feeling we shouldn't buy our dream dresses. But when it's someone else we tend to say "go for it!".

That is a gorgeous dress. You will look stunning in it and you've found the love of your life. You deserve to marry your love in this dress and the feeling, and photos, you will have will be part of the best memories of your life. Enjoy every second of wearing it. Congratulations!

susansaucepan · 13/03/2024 14:02

I have a fabulous similar wedding dress that's a size 8 that you can have for 10% of that :) or the cost of the dry cleaning if you are happy to return it after you wear it .

Irishmama100 · 13/03/2024 14:05

Go for it! Mine was 3.5k - 20 years ago!
I loved it.

idontlikealdi · 12/03/2024 22:02

I paid £2k for mine 20 ears ago. If you can afford it why not? I sold mine on Vinted last year for £50 because I don't have storage space. No regrets.

Someone got a bargain that's for sure! Is there a section of Vinted just for wedding dresses? Paid around 3k 13 years ago from Castigliano but dh won't let me sell it. Sitting in garage! If only worth £50 though maybe he's got a point

MessyNeate · 13/03/2024 14:08

I hope by now you've bought the dress.

I had this wobble, I'm 42. Mine was £1900... plus alterations made it about £2500. And it's a big dress!

Buy it!

Whats a "situational marriage" ?

Hattie98 · 13/03/2024 14:42

I spent £30 on mine (Ebay) and was happy with it - but that's because it was exactly the dress I wanted.

This is the dress you want and it makes you feel like a goddess. You should definitely get it; other dresses will just be "less than" and you would regret not going for this one!

ReadyForSeason · 12/03/2024 22:05

This is the dress…

that is stunning. elegant, understated

1500 if you can afford it, its absolutely fine

buy it, stop feeling bad!

MrsB74 · 13/03/2024 18:02

Do it! Have a fabulous day and I hope you have a very happy marriage x

Jiski · 13/03/2024 19:59

It’s your day. If you can afford it, go for it. Don’t forget to haggle if it’s from a Bridal shop.

GreatOak · 13/03/2024 21:17

Aged late 40s (not that long ago) I spent £1,500 on a wedding dress which was exactly the style I was looking for, custom made by a wonderful designer, and I couldn't find the style anywhere else. It is beautiful. So if you love it, can afford it and won't find anything you love more, go for it!

The somewhat ridiculous thing for me is that it's ended up a bit Muriel's Wedding as we have since decided not to get married (because reasons, none bad)! Well, I could sell the dress on but I simply can't bring myself to part with it. 🙈

Rycbar · 13/03/2024 23:20

Mine was £3000.
I would buy it again in a heartbeat!
