help me decide between bags

I don't know if anyone is still up but can you help me choose between these tote bags (or help me find a better option) must be

  1. leather
  2. able to wear over one shoulder
  3. traditional leather colours - black or brown although I could go to oxblood

The style I am / am aiming for is a bit of a cross between classic country and boho chic

current shortlist - Aspinal London tote - large in woven tan or burnt orange
https://www.selfridges.com/GB/en/cat/aspinal-of-london-london-interwoven-leather-tote-bag_R04199300/#colour=TAN

https://www.selfridges.com/GB/en/cat/aspinal-of-london-london-large-leather-tote-bag_R04264085/#colour=ORANGE

or Aspinal Regency tote in tan or orange

thanks

I quite like the second one, but not the colour, for me), but it looks a bit shallow, as in, not long ?
The third one would be ok, but the straps are too thin.
Sorry.

I have the London tote in pebbled leather in a light putty colour. It is my "go to" bag for work, I often have a laptop or ipad in it as well as A4 notebook, purse, phone, pens, chargers, keys, make up...snacks etc.
I think of it as quite classic and it gets lots of compliments. I tend to wear trouser suits or quite formal dresses for the environments I work in - lots of corporate head offices - so this sort of bag works well with my clothes. I bought mine half price in a sale about 2 years ago and it has worn really well, stands up to a lot.

I often do wear with both loops on my shoulder to keep my hands free.

Marine30 · 11/03/2024 17:26

Third one seems most timeless. Tan leather always looks classy. A bold colour like orange might dictate what you wear with it (so as not to clash).
If it’s a ‘fling’ purchase for certain occasions only go bright , if it’s a forever purchase go neutral and get the tan.

thepurplepenguin · 11/03/2024 18:48

I have the Aspinal midi tote in Marmalade (which is almost the same colour as the Burnt Orange) and it is my absolute favourite bag. As PP said, it is crossbody which makes it a lot easier to wear and you can still get a ton of stuff in it. The leather is lovely too.

FluffyFanny · 11/03/2024 19:34

I like the woven London tote best but it's not all that comfy as a shoulder bag due to the structure and the shortish handles.

Nomchangebeaureau · 11/03/2024 19:37

I have the second aspinal bag “large leather tote” and echoing what others say it’s really not suitable for over the shoulder :(

it also find that it’s a bit of a funny shape unless I put my laptop in the inside zip because that kind of helps the structure, otherwise it folds in a little.

Vitriolinsanity · 11/03/2024 20:20

I'd go with the orange. I have that bag and it goes with everything.

stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk · 11/03/2024 23:04

ok decision made, for the interested - I think I was asking too much of one bag to be classic and hippy which when you say it like that sounds obvious so...

apinal midi London - in black woven (available for pre-order on aspinal website £450 atm) for a more classic / smart vibe https://www.aspinaloflondon.com/products/midi-london-tote-in-black-woven-leather

tan leather rowdy tote for the more boho chic / hippy days https://www.rowdybags.co.uk/collections/leather-tote-bags/products/amber-leather-tote-bag

Amber Tote Bag

Our Amber Leather Tote Bag will become your go-to summer staple. The traditional tote style is understated and elegant. It’s big enough for all your daily essentials, with two comfortable straps and a leather pocket inside for valuables. The tote is not...

I do like that amber tote!

Treesandsheepeverywhere · 12/03/2024 10:05

Good choices OP, enjoy them.

Manyandyoucanwalkover · 12/03/2024 10:07

I love bags ❤️. Number two gets my vote.

TempleOfBloom · 12/03/2024 10:20

Zip top essential for this size bag if you will be on the tube etc, in restaurants, (wrt pickpocketing) and theatre etc (stuff falls out if it tips over)

Thank you for sharing - the midi is gorgeous, I've just bought it in tan pebble lol. I've been looking for a spring/summer crossbody, in something other than black.

It should've been £575, but I added the £25 personalisation taking me up to the £600, so was able to get the full £150 off with the promo code!!! Love a bargain 😁

Those rowdy bags are gorgeous! Going to have to get one.

Rocknrollstar · 12/03/2024 17:49

stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk · 10/03/2024 01:21

that makes sense, I'm more aiming for timeless rather than on-trend and would (hopefully) be using it for decades.

currently veering towards the zip top regency in tan or orange I think

The trouble is that you won’t want to use it for decades. We all get fed up with our bags. We change, styles change. I definitely wouldn’t buy an expensive bag in orange.

Boscoforever · 12/03/2024 18:25

I have bags that are coming on 20years old. Celine ones.
Classic, good quality bags stand the test of time. I don't use them every day, week or even month, but they are always there.
They are investment pieces.

TulipTuesday · 10/03/2024 00:58

Like the look of them both but the strap on the first one doesn’t look big enough to comfortably sit on your shoulder if that’s how you want to wear it

I have the London and it’s a fabulous bag but you can’t really wear it over your shoulder.

Mummacake · 12/03/2024 18:51

Check the Aspinal website as they have some similar ones in their outlet & also have a discount code up to £150 off a £600 spend on purchases atm

Treesandsheepeverywhere · 12/03/2024 19:15

The London Midi has an inner zip plus clasp. Inner pockets are great for keeping stuff in too.

Classic bags don't go out of fashion. I've previously bought cheap bags before and they lose shape and don't stand the test of time.

I dithered about spending so much on bags, but after seeing friends with bags that have lasted decades, I decided to invest in quality bags.

I have 3 now and wishing for the midi in evergreen pebble to come back on stock.

SpottyBrolly · 12/03/2024 19:16

@stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk good choices, and I'm off to get myself a rowdy now as well.

Epidote · 12/03/2024 21:05

The regency has a zip. Better than the open tote.

cactusdragon · 13/03/2024 07:56

For those who love the Rowdy bags, does the fact that they are not lined matter?

I've had a few unlined bags, it doesnt really make a difference. I've always used a bag liner, purely just to keep the suede lining clean.
