Underwear and Wedding outfit if overweight - just want to cry

I’ve been unwell for a while and gained a lot of weight. My normal is 160lbs and I’m currently 190lbs. I’m 5 foot 8 and 25yo usually wear anywhere between a 14 and an 18 but usually 14 on the bottom and 16 on the top. I’m getting married next month and just want to call it all off.

I hate the way I look and don’t feel happy in anything. Now I’m feeling better I’m obviously making changes to my routine to help me lose weight but it won’t be fast enough for the wedding.

I was thinking some flattering, slightly special underwear may help (nothing OTT, no extra holes or anything) but have no idea where to look. Current bras are 32HH and fit quite well but are plain.

Additionally any advice for dresses? I’m not going for traditional and was considering something like this… https://www.phase-eight.com/product/julissa-ruffle-wrap-midi-dress-22180560008.html. Maybe in the green..
Budget of £500 ish. I’d do anything to feel slightly better

Start following @ rantsandbigpants and side by size on insta. She was wearing an amazing jumpsuit this week but also is affordable (nowhere near £500, maybe £2/-300). You will look great with a smile!

Get the bra-fitted body that makes you feel like Marilyn Monroe, then buy a dress that works with the bra line of the body. It's much harder to buy the dress first.

The smooth line of the body will make your dress hang better.

Hello Op,
It sounds like you’ve lost your mojo a bit with clothes shopping but from an outsider’s view you look fabulous in the photo you posted of yourself. I too have that dress but in velvet and the velvet gives the outfit a bit of something extra - have you tried the velvet version? Also, I would say don’t worry what size the dress is and ignore the number printed on the inside label - don’t feel down that you are wearing, say, a size 18. Nobody sees the label - they’ll only see you looking fantastic on your wedding day.

Don’t forget, on the day you will have the best underwear, good accessories, your hair done , the whole thing. You mention not feeling great about certain aspects of your face - I am sure you are absolutely fine but if you feel conscious maybe try a new make-up routine (maybe with the help of a make-up technician on the make-up counter in JL or Boots) who can suggest highlighters to enhance certain aspects of the face (on my wedding day, my make-up artist shaded my face, slightly, and somehow it did the trick).

Let’s be honest, if we aren’t feeling 100% the outfits never look 100% in the changing room mirror but if I can suggest something is for you to be easy on yourself over the next month until the wedding - a bit of TLC so that you can relax and enjoy your special day when it arrives. I’ve been there too with putting on weight and feeling like nothing is quite right but then I try to focus on other things - small things like a pedicure, better skin routine etc and it makes me feel a bit better about myself.

We are rooting for you!

You are totally magnifying this in your head, you’re beautiful!

If you do want to lose weight, it really is possible to lose ten pounds in a month: power walk an hour a day, restrict yourself to 1500 calories, and no alcohol, crisps, biscuits or sweets. Arrange a lymph drainage massage a couple days before your wedding.

I think you look lovely, but I understand the desire to look your best on your special day. Good luck!

TruthThatsHardAsSteel · 09/03/2024 07:43

Awk sweetheart. Don't go dowdy just because you feel "less than". You've got wonderful curves and the right dress is out there waiting. OK it's less than ideal if it's not your usual size but you have to work with what you've got and maximise it. I got a corset dress a second hand formal dress off Ebay. Absolutely loved it and felt great.

My weight fluctuates a lot with health issues so I really really do understand.

Do go for green if that's the colour you're drawn towards but it's got to be spectacular., 💚

TruthThatsHardAsSteel · 09/03/2024 07:43

I mean less than ideal as you don't feel confident by the way. Just in case that comes across badly

RickyGervaislovesdogs · 09/03/2024 07:48

I would say as pp said bra! and pull your shoulders back/posture? Stand tall. Looks like you are slouching a little in the one photo.

Your statuesque, you look lovely in the photo (blue dress) you can carry a little extra weight so much better when your taller.

You mention your biggest concern is perhaps your chin/face. Hair can hide a multitude of sins (can’t really make out your hair/length etc) but I’d use the hair to frame your face, consider adding some clip in hair for the day, lots of ideas on google. Have a few hair/make up sessions?

You’ll look beautiful on your special day, enjoy it!!

frequentlyfrazzled · 09/03/2024 08:26

I love this, and think something like this would look fab on you OP. Plus it is a bit more special for your wedding day.

@TruthThatsHardAsSteel Love that Florence waterfall dress, gorgeous. I think OP would look stunning in that.
A seamstress can still alter it for you if need be.
I’d try a few dresses on and get a feel for colours, fabric, style.

Yes I thought the simplicity was nice. There's another green too

I thought the Gina baconni was lovely too. Could easily be elevated. Then again, I dress fairly alternatively so I'm likely not the best to give advice 💚

My contribution- (they do have a dark green). I just love the blue!

Again - the OP is 25 …

She’s come to S&B for ideas. She already knows about polyester wrap dresses. Are they truly what posters here would want their own 25 year old daughter to wear on her wedding day?

(Not aimed at the post immediately above mine.)

Hello - first thing I thought when I saw your pics was what lovely skin you have too! It can be so hard to see what looks great about ourselves when we're not feeling great about ourselves. I would agree with the idea of some good undergarments plus going to see a personal shopper - if there's someone in your life whose opinion you really trust and who will be supportive, take them with you to help you decide. You sound lovely and I really hope you find something that reflects how beautiful you are inside and out.

ithinkicanithinkican · 09/03/2024 08:59

Also Bombshell HQ can be great for a curvy figure and a special occasion.

Spaghetti127 · 09/03/2024 09:06

I got my wedding dress from the pretty dress company. It was about 200 quid and lovely quality. They have some a good range of shapes which are flattering. The dress I ordered also had boning in which helped feel more confident. I'll also echo the calls for bravissimo xx

(About a billion times more fresh and joyful and celebratory than polyester satin tied around the middle.)

That"s really nice.
