Super lightweight packable clothes - silk maybe?

I'm sure I can remember seeeing very lightweight crinkly clothes (dresses, tops, skirts?) that could be crammed down hard into a small bag then put on on arrival and swish off to a bar.

Were they ever a thing? Do they still exist? Or does the fact that I can't seem to find anything of the kind, mean they were never as great as they sounded?

Ghost. They used to do these basic long dresses and skirts and tops in this crinkly viscose that didn’t crease. Now they’re very focussed on the wedding and occasion wear, so it’s all this satiny stuff instead.

Phineyj · 03/03/2024 16:47

Patra.com maybe?

NHStoPrivate · 03/03/2024 16:49

Seasalt do that crinkly shirt, I think it's called Larissa.

HundredMilesAnHour · 03/03/2024 17:04

Issey Miyake Pleats Please do wonderful clothes that are well-cut, don't crease (can be just screwed up in a bag) and are machine washable but they cost ££££. I have quite a few of his dresses that are perfect for work / holidays / travel but the initial outlay was OUCH.

Worth it as an investment purchase if you have the budget.

goingdownfighting · 03/03/2024 17:06

I take a portable steamer.

candycane222 · 03/03/2024 18:05

Ah thanks all. I don't think Im smart or rich enough for Miyake! Sad about Ghost though. Travel iron ruled out as it was packing into a tiny bag that was the issue! And yes, I have a couple of larissa shirts and they'll be coming 👍👍

I always like the look of the Larissa shirts, I just wish they'd make some a bit less patterned.

Phineyj · 03/03/2024 19:09

I've got a shirt from Phase 8 that's exactly like that description now I come to think of it. Some kind of crinkly synthetic. I play classical music and it's always my go-to when I want to be smart yet shove it in a bag.

Try Charli

Have bought some really good blouses, dresses and skirts there for travel which pack light and I get out every year.

(Aspiga if you want to spend more but they are bulkier)

GlitteringUnicorn · 03/03/2024 20:10

This shirt is indestructible and is still white despite several beach holidays in the tropics

Silk is a good call as it’s east to hand wash and will probably dry fast in hot weather.

Parapapampam · 03/03/2024 20:32

https://www.meandem.com/search?q=cheesecloth Lots of cheesecloth at me&em, always packs well.

I also had this dress travelling last year, I rolled it up and it didn't crease at all:

If you're not going somewhere too hot and humid and it's just a city break, you might want to consider plisse fabric. made from polyester, so not great for keeping cool, but will spring into shape and packs into a tiny space.

River Island have quite a lot right now. I recently bought a plisse dress from there as a short break packing standby.

candycane222 · 03/03/2024 23:17

Ooh loads of great suggestions here thank you! Not come across Charli before, @GlitteringUnicorn but some of the maxi dresses are lovely! Looking forward to checking them all out on a bigger screen - very grateful for the collective knowledge 👍👍

No one’s mentioned Skims? I’ve seen women of all ages and shapes look fantastic in their clothing. And envied how easy they must be to pack and wear straight out of a suitcase.

I think Selfridges has a decent range of their dresses.

@Parapapampam I do like the look of the airism dress - but wondering how cool/unsweaty it is (I am very much a natural fabric gal as a rule). Where were you with it, what was the temperature/humidity like? Ta!

I was in Japan in the summer, very hot and very humid, although the fabric felt thicker than the light cotton shirts I’d taken, it was actually really good at keeping me cool, the airism fabric is designed to be quick drying so you don’t feel all sweaty. I also liked the high neckline as I tend to burn easily in that area.

Were the things you saw at Muji? They display them folded into wee cubes.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 04/03/2024 13:31

Rohan specialise in this

Oh interesting - yes the high neckline appeals to me for the exact same reason!

Too long ago to remember - but I'll definitely have a look, I like the sound of Oxo-sized clothes!!

I have a few cheesecloth dresses/skirts from me and em. Totally crease proof but possibly not quite lightweight enough for you.

Went into M&S yesterday and they had a few items in this fabric, couldn't quite make my mind up, but would certainly pack well.
