Super lightweight packable clothes - silk maybe?

I'm sure I can remember seeeing very lightweight crinkly clothes (dresses, tops, skirts?) that could be crammed down hard into a small bag then put on on arrival and swish off to a bar.

Were they ever a thing? Do they still exist? Or does the fact that I can't seem to find anything of the kind, mean they were never as great as they sounded?

M&S do some Beach Shirts & matching trousers in a crinkled cotton muslin as attached.
I do know what you mean about this sort of packable clothes though. Years ago I bought a beautiful crinkled silk dress in Vietnam. I'm not entirely sure what I've done with it!

I would agree re Rohan, also Helly Hansen do some similar leisure wear which packs very small.

So many great suggestions! I like the look of those beach trousers - I was considering just going away in the pair I was wearing (only a few days) but that has opened a new possibility....

Ah thanks all. I don't think Im smart or rich enough for Miyake! Sad about Ghost though. Travel iron ruled out as it was packing into a tiny bag that was the issue! And yes, I have a couple of larissa shirts and they'll be coming 👍👍

can you order an iron and ironing board for your room?

I remember my gran telling me not to dry silk outside or wear it on sunny days. The funny thing is that she was right. Repeated exposure to sunlight causes it to breakdown, so it's not the best thing to take if you're going somewhere hot and sunny.

Silk can be great for travelling - easy to wash and dry, and light. But it can crease terribly if it's not meant to be (I have a camisole that is meant to be crinkled, but most needs an iron), and isn't always great if you're prone to sweating in the heat - it can show sweat easily. I prefer cotton in heat for that reason, but a company like Rohan (as mentioned upthread) which specialises in travel clothing will be good - and some artificial fabrics now are designed to handle sweat and activity so are really good at it (and I speak/type as someone whose wardrobe is mostly natural fibres.)

I wore a lot of silk when i lived in Hong Kong & it was fine to wear in hot weather. I never dried it in the sun though. Biological detergent I found was the worse thing to degrade silk.
H&M normally do great summery pleated skirts, albeit in polyester . There's a few in online from Arket currently. Free People have lots of summery skirts in currently, that look like they don't need ironing.

Agree with the crepe dresses, which Ghost did so well. I used to have a bias cut viscose maxi dress, which I wore in the 90s. I've been looking on Ebay for something similar with no luck yet. If you search for vintage Ghost dress, you might find something good.

Mercurial123 · 08/03/2024 05:29

I had something similar in black

I keep getting ads from Roman for a midi black crinkle skirt - very tempted but not sure about their sizing.

This shirt is indestructible and is still white despite several beach holidays in the tropics

Purchased!

GlitteringUnicorn · 08/03/2024 16:18

I hope you like it. It's been a hard worker for me. I have it in navy too but that is out of stock.

Try Shein, lots of things like you’re wanting and amazing prices, I bought this and it’s great on the beach or dressed up a bit in an evening, but they have a lot of things like it and it won’t break the bank, nearly everything has a lot of different colours/prints too. Have a fab time op!
