To feel depressed after browsing Vinted? 😔

madeinmanc · 02/03/2024 11:39

I avoid social media but recently after trying to restock my wardrobe on Vinted I feel so depressed. Everyone looks amazing in their photos: amazing waist-to-hip ratios, flawless skin, lash extensions/lift, you name it...it even seems sometimes that everyone has a massive bust while still being a size 6 or 8. I'm pretty slim these days but as a result now have a relatively small bust 😬

I don't seek out these photos and came off Instagram a few years ago due to this but there's seemingly no avoiding it 😔

Comparison is the thief of joy @madeinmanc . We all present an image of ourself to the world but underneath the only person knows what is going on beneath the service is us. There will probably be people who will look at you and be jealous of the fact that you have lovely hair etc. only people don’t say that. Don’t compare yourself to others.

bloom19 · 02/03/2024 12:49

Vinted? What are you looking for, most of the pictures I see are just clothes, no one wearing them

ItIsYou · 02/03/2024 12:57

I'd look amazing if I took a photo and then spent hours getting rid of of the flabby bits, lines, lengthening my hair, elongating my legs, changing the shape of my eyes and god knows what else, in the hope I'd make £5 on a baggy old t shirt I now hated

Your buying the clothes not the person

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 02/03/2024 12:57

You need to concentrate on yourself, not how other people look. Vinted is mostly clothes, a few pics of people modelling them but seriously how do you even walk down the high street if you're comparing yourself to everyone else?

Exactly what I was thinking!

Really? I'd say about a fifth to a quarter of what I'm looking at has pictures of the seller.

Well, I was genuinely wondering if anyone else felt this way and it seems not, so it does seem to be just me 😅

I've never seen clothes being worn on vinted, but perhaps it's common with a certain brand?

mynumerouno · 02/03/2024 13:08

I've not experienced this at all on vinted. It's just pictures of clothes laid out on the floor 😂

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 02/03/2024 13:10

People do sell ...erm...other things on Vinted, are you sure they're not advertising themselves hence being all dolled up?

freezefade · 02/03/2024 13:12

You don't actually think those are real images? They've altered their bodies, taken 100 shots to try and get a decent one and then manipulated it with filters and photo editing tools.

The normalisation of that behaviour is quite depressing. The part I find most depressing is that ugly things like lash extensions or breasts disproportionate to body size or frame are considered desirable or "amazing". I don't see them that way.

ginasevern · 02/03/2024 13:13

The pics are filtered and the sellers take hours posing and pruning. Even I could look good doing that.

Geebray · 02/03/2024 13:15

What kind of clothes are you looking for, OP, to get those photos?

And as for the "tiny with a large bust", I'm sure you can imagine how that comes to be! Same as a lot of the hair, and the eyelashes - fake.

I agree, might look ok in a photo but looks daft in RL.

ImnotadickheadIpromise · 02/03/2024 13:19

@freezefade wow judgemental much.

I only put photos up of my wearing the item I’m selling if I already have a photo of me wearing it. Always cut my head off though.

Andtheworldwentwhite · 02/03/2024 13:19

Yes. But. I have been dieting. And am now in a size ten. So I’m still riding of the back of delight of my weight loss 😂 my boobs have gone more saggy though.
but I am realistic. There are things I cannot change no matter what I do like my general body build height etc. I am what I am. I never used to feel like that thought. I kind of hit 45 and went fuck it. 😂

And usually, wrinkled and crumpled generally looking as if they'd last been used to line a dog basket.

Moier · 02/03/2024 13:25

Puts me off buying when l see people " modeling" the item.. especially sandals with manky toes.

joan12 · 02/03/2024 13:29

I know what you mean op. They are usually modelling very skimpy tight dresses. I feel depressed for a different reason though. I feel so sad for those girls. It all looks (and is) so fake and manufactured. I find it really repellent.

lambhotpot · 02/03/2024 13:30

All SM is fake even MN half of what on here is a pack of lies or over exggerated.
Vinted is the same as fb and other platforms photo editing is their key.
Dont let it get to you its mostly fake and after awhile you start to see the funny side of it.

Whereas it's not "judgemental" to tell women this is what beauty is or normal behaviour is to be accepted?

You don't get to throw that word around as a silencing tactic when you're being judgemental yourself.

Edited

I buy and sell on Vinted a lot, but I'm a size 16, very few of the photographs are of clothes being worn.

They're usually for the fetish foot audience 🤢

I’d really appreciate it if you could point out where I’ve been judgemental? I have lash extensions and fake boobs (very much in proportion actually) and I got them because I wanted to. Not to fit in with anybody’s standards. I’m all for people doing as they please. Just let others do the same

Sususudio · 02/03/2024 13:49

All I seem to see on Vinted are incredibly crumpled clothes hanging on wardrobe knobs.

I can afford lash extensions and big boobs, but I don't want them. That look is not for me.
