Get some Aussie conditioner to start with.

Crucible · 02/03/2024 11:54

Did the hairdresser make any suggestions? I have lots of very very fine hair, it's a pain, but it is oily, so opposite problem. My sympathies! Style and beauty board will sort you out.

DelurkingAJ · 02/03/2024 11:56

Is there any reason (beyond your self perception) your natural mix of colour won’t work for work. No man (I suspect) would reach for dye if going grey. Because I wonder if the dye isn’t helping.

AmaryllisChorus · 02/03/2024 12:00

My DSis's hair looked like that - so dry. She started taking Biotin supplements and two weeks later, her hair was all glossy. I couldn't believe the change. She dyes it and uses heated tongs on it daily, so it does dry out.

Try biotin.

Your hair doesn;t look grey btw. It's a lovely colour imo. (Not that grey isn't.)

You might think I am being sarcastic but I’m not.
Try Cowboy Magic horse shampoo and also their conditioner. Worked such wonders on my highland ponies manes and tails that I tried it myself and it is great.

Moo Goo Protein Shot is excellent.

Find another hairdresser who has some suggestions of how to move forward.

SloaneStreetVandal · 02/03/2024 13:49

Have it trimmed regularly, don't use too much heat (minimise drying, curling etc), as PP said take biotin supplement, buy a silk pillow case OR a silk sleep bonnet. For conditioning, either olaplex No5 or l'oreal bond repair.

Lovingthegrungerevival · 02/03/2024 14:31

Good diet plus hair supplement, silk pillowcase, silk hair ties, pre-shampoo treatment (e.g. Philip Kingsley), intense deep conditioning mask left on with heat post-shampoo and then regular oil between washes.

DSD9472 · 02/03/2024 14:40

Have you tried argan oil or a leave in conditioner. I've heard of using olive oil or fresh avocado, then wrapping your head in cling film and keep it on for an hour.

What is your natural colour? The pic doesn't look dark or grey at all. Which demi are you using? I'm at least 60% grey, likely more, and use casting colours semi. I buy a much lighter colour than I want though.

Ooh I might have to check this out.

I currently use Mane 'n Tail which is another one that was originally intended for horses

I meant, what was your natural colour before going grey? You say dark at the back, but do you mean dark brown, black, dark blonde? Has it been bleached? Seems odd that its going to the orange colour if not bleached before. I was thinking your natural colour must be a dark strawberry blonde/red 🤔

bridgetreilly · 02/03/2024 14:51

Same menopausal hair here. I just did a buzz cut and I have to say, I love it. I don’t know that I will keep it like this but at least for a while I am not worrying about colour, dryness, or anything.

Namehascahnged · 02/03/2024 15:38

DSD9472 my natural colour was a very warm blond like strawberry blond before i went grey .
now that i am grey it is very pale grey round face - mid grey on top- then a dark steele grey at the back .

Namehascahnged · 02/03/2024 15:39

bridgetreilly sounds brilliant - i had a no 1 back in the late 80s!

No its not bleached - but in parts the hair is almost white so maybe thats why .

Re getting rid of the colour- if ai use demi s that will mean i can grow the permanent colour out .. do the roots wirh demi- then when the demi is all the way thro the hair - i cd let it fade to reveal the grey? !

When I stopped dyeing my hair, I switched to a silver shampoo and conditioner. That really helped brighten the grey into silver. I also started to wear bright/bold lipsticks and a soft light coloured eyeshadow to give my face more colour. It helped me get used to the transition.
Kevin Murphy makes a terrific silver shampoo and conditioner- it’s also very gentle. Briogeo make a great oat leave- in conditioner.

Blackcats7 · 02/03/2024 15:44

Forgot to mention Cowboy Magic also do a detangler which is great for shine and silkiness after wash and conditioning.
It all smells gorgeous too.

Namehascahnged · 02/03/2024 15:45

learieonthewildmoor thank you - I would love the hair to be more silver - the roots - but i have all this copper/ red that i dont know what to do with ! See pic .

My hairdresser put a toner through mine that turned it all a very light gold blonde. Can you hairdresser do a toner?
I used a very rich conditioner for a few weeks and the started the purple s&c.
I use a super gentle oat based one now it’s mostly silver now.
