Is it crazy to bring toddler to haircut appointment?

what do people do with their toddlers when they need to get a haircut? Would it be crazy to bring mine to my appointment if she sat in the pram while I was getting my hair cut?

There was a kid in the salon recently when I was getting my hair done, after that I'd say please don't unless you can guarantee your kid will do as it's told and stay in the pushchair. This one was running around, pulling the carts around, getting in people's way - the guy doing my hair rents his chair and he was furious that kids are allowed.

Small baby yes, mobile toddler no.

They ideally have the other parent or sitter. Toddlers around chemicals, scissors and noise would've be great. And nor would a Toddler screaming blue murder while someone pays a lot for some chill and pamper.

I’d check with the hairdresser first. It seems a bit unfair to other customers

Windydaysandwetnights · 12/02/2024 13:46

I pay 50 quid for a cut and blow dry... I leave my dc at home.
Please do the same..

I didn’t get a haircut for several years because I didn’t have anyone to mind my babies/toddlers/kids while I went for a hair cut. I just used the flip over ponytail method at home (didn’t look great but didn’t care). First occasion I was able to get to a salon after several years of being considerate to others, some arsehole brought their toddler who refused to stay in the pram, yelled, squealed and clambered over people to get to their mum at the washing basin. How I detested that woman.

I took mine once as a one-off when I was let down for childcare at the last minute when they were 1 and 3. I phoned and checked beforehand and as it was a quiet time and I was a regular they said OK, they had to sit and play on the floor in a big open area in front of the sinks, not be around the chairs as there just isn't space, the stylists need to be able to move freely around and between the chairs. It was OK because it was quiet, there was space and I was only having a wet cut (half an hour) but that was the only time and I wouldn't recommend it.

Geneticsbunny · 12/02/2024 17:04

Please don't.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 12/02/2024 17:05

My toddlers- hell no!!!
maybe you have one that will sit in a pram for ages without making a noise.
what did I do- wait until their father could watch them to go

CCLCECSC · 12/02/2024 17:07

I would get childcare and go alone.
I took my eldest as a baby thinking that would be OK. It wasn't.

BeatrixAylward · 12/02/2024 17:09

Please don’t do this. I love my relaxing trips to the salon for a few hours, there’s nothing worse than someone else’s child/toddler ruining the experience.

MeandBobbyMcGoo · 12/02/2024 17:10

My hairdresser recently sent an email to all saying kids are not allowed.

DoILookThrilled · 12/02/2024 17:11

Rather unreasonable. Some people must do it as my salon banned it which is fair enough l think

This! Especially when l didn’t bring mine with me, as someone else was looking after them

goingrouge · 12/02/2024 17:15

Find childcare. I pay a lot of money to get my hair done and don't want to share my experience with a baby/toddler.

MsFogi · 12/02/2024 17:21

No - I would be so pissed off to got to the hairdresser and find a toddler there.

AnonymousUsername123 · 12/02/2024 17:39

No, I wouldn't. Would ruin it for me and for other customers, and be stressful for those working in the salon.

Winglessvulture · 12/02/2024 17:50

I wouldn't take a toddler with me to get a hair cut, but if you have no one who can watch them could you perhaps look at a mobile hairdresser? They might be happy to come to you and do a quick cut while your child it playing in their own space?

NerrSnerr · 12/02/2024 17:53

Are you still with the child's dad? If so, book the appointment when they're home

allfurcoatnoknickers · 12/02/2024 17:54

I go at the weekend so DH is home. Aren't most hairdressers open on a Saturday?!

coxesorangepippin · 12/02/2024 17:54

Yes it's crazy

ManchesterGirl2 · 12/02/2024 17:56

Unless you're certain they will nap, it does not seem a safe place for them. Chemicals and sharp things all over the place.

Lizzieregina · 12/02/2024 17:58

I always brought my kids as I didn’t have a choice.

They stayed where they were told, and had a backpack each with little snacks and books/small toys. The salon owner thought they were great and didn’t mind them as they didn’t bother anyone.

I was delighted when they started school so I could go alone.

spriots · 12/02/2024 17:59

If you have no other childcare - there are hairdressers who will come to your house in the evening

Farmageddon · 12/02/2024 18:01

OP can you try and get a mobile hairdresser to come to your house instead?

JenniferBooth · 12/02/2024 18:04

Please dont. I would like my hairdresser to concentrate on what shes doing (colouring and cutting my hair) not worrying about some unruly toddler around chemicals and hot straighteners
