Is it crazy to bring toddler to haircut appointment?

Mum8929 · 12/02/2024 13:19

what do people do with their toddlers when they need to get a haircut? Would it be crazy to bring mine to my appointment if she sat in the pram while I was getting my hair cut?

You get a home hairdresser or you get a sitter .

It's very unfair on everyone to take any children to a hairdresser

InTheRainOnATrain · 12/02/2024 18:06

-Leave them with their other parent (book evening or weekend if they work a standard week)
-Go when they’re at nursery (if they go)
-Babysitter (family or paid)
-Mobile hairdresser in the evening once they’re in bed

Basically anything except taking them with you. It’s not appropriate, not fair to other customers, you can’t expect pram space, it’s dangerous in terms of sharp scissors and hot straighteners, you can’t leave with your hair only cut on one side or colour still if they kick off unexpectedly and not to mention yuck to exposing a toddler to all the hair dye and hair spray fumes.

FruitBat53 · 12/02/2024 18:11

Last time I had mine cut, it was 5pm and I had one of the last appointments. A young Mum was in there with a very over tired and stroppy toddler who was causing absolute havoc and Mum was sat smiling indulgently at him. I won't repeat the conversation that happened after she'd left..... but the hairdresser told the receptionist that she wasn't to book her in with her again!! She was so flustered bless her, it's not fair on the hairdresser at all.

Greeksummer · 12/02/2024 18:13

Yeah, no. Even if they would actually stay in their push chair for the whole appointment, the push chair itself would take up so much room. I’d be raging if I was a stylist having to navigate my way around a buggy in a probably already busy salon.

bryceQ · 12/02/2024 18:17

Goodness no not a toddler. Small baby in pram maybe. My husband has my son when I go for a haircut

2024theplot · 12/02/2024 18:18

Sounds like a bad idea to me, what if they get startled by the loud noises and start crying? Your hairdresser is unlikely to have time to stop to let you soothe toddler without it making them run behind, and it will impact the relaxing experience for other customers.
All the salons I've used have had a rule against bringing children with you to wait while you have your hair done, so if you absolutely insist on doing this, ask the salon in advance.

Wictc · 12/02/2024 18:39

I wouldn’t bring any children to get a hair cut unless they were having one themselves (and I wouldn’t be waiting around to get mine done too after!). I wouldn’t bring a baby either.

Haircuts are so expensive, it’s a little bit of a pamper for most people and I wouldn’t want it ruined by a baby or toddler.

Get a mobile hairdresser, go when the toddler is at nursery, go when your partner is at home, get a babysitter.

Unless your partner works 7 days a week until the evening, surely you can spare a few hours in the evening or weekend to go?

Flottie · 12/02/2024 19:52

I’d probably not out of consideration to other customers. To some people having a haircut is a real escape from the stresses of life so I’d probably not.

CharmedCult · 12/02/2024 19:57

This is exactly what mobile hairdressers are for. Get someone to come to your house to cut your hair.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 12/02/2024 22:08

No, please don’t. A salon is full of hazards for little children, and most are quite tight space-wise between stations for the stylist to get round about customers. Mine has wheelie carts with products in, and stools some stylists like to sit on, so there’s not masses of room even though it’s a fairly big space in terms of actual space. From other customers’ perspective it might be a treat/pamper and they want a quiet time to read a magazine or chat to their stylist. (Although it can be quite noisy with dryers and phones ringing which might be unsettling for a child anyway.)

PennyApril54 · 07/10/2024 17:51

I'm usually pretty easy going and wouldn't mind a content quiet child I suppose but I go to the hairdressers to relax, get some peace while having my hair done so if there were noisy children distracting the hairdresser and just generally disturbing the feel of the place I'd be s bit annoyed and think the parent was being inconsiderate for other customers and the child themselves

Skybluepinky · 07/10/2024 18:05

Ask A relative or pay someone to look after yr child.

Char65 · 07/10/2024 18:12

DoILookThrilled · 12/02/2024 17:12

This! Especially when l didn’t bring mine with me, as someone else was looking after them

Yes totally agree a hairdressing appointment is such a relaxing experience you don't want to have it ruined by noisy children - the hairdresser I go to wouldn't let you anyway, as others have said it can actually be quite a dangerous environment for a young child and its unfair on the staff.

Dont know how much Larry King salons charge but a new one is opening in Marylebone and according to Red, his wife Laura said People should feel welcome. You can bring your mum your kids and your dog, You can breast feed your baby or sit and have a cocktail We are a community and thats important. I think she needs to read this thread.

MotherofAllMatriarchs · 07/10/2024 22:24

I adore kids pretty much everywhere but it’s a hard no from me too.

I had a mani pedi recently and had to listen to a small child shouting to background sounds of Tom and Jerry. It wasn’t the end of the world but I felt a bit irritated when I’d arranged precious childcare for my own kids on my partners day off only to hear the annoying sounds of my household recreated!

Thanks for the heads up, will make a point of never booking there!

I don't want to go to the salon with toddlers there, I had a mobile hairdresser when ds was small and dh worked a lot.

Its suggested its the sort of place many would have to save up for six months to go to. Id be mighty annoyed if i did that and there were screaming kids running around everywhere.

Scenty · 08/10/2024 12:46

I wouldn’t and there are options to get someone to come to your house -
do that rather than bring a toddler

Icanttakethisanymore · 08/10/2024 12:47

I think it depends on the toddler, for that reason I expect the salon will probably say no. If they said yes then there’s a good chance they’d have loads of pissed off customers when the toddler doesn’t sit quietly.

Can you get someone to come to your house? I did this when I had a BF newborn and I wanted my hair highlighting.

TheFlis · 08/10/2024 12:50

The salon I go to would not allow this.

SatinHeart · 08/10/2024 12:57

DH always looked after mine (generally on a Saturday), but some of my mum friends have a mobile hairdresser come to their house instead.
