Could I get away with this for a summer wedding (guest)?

Looking at the green & white option - from a shop called Wild Clouds which I think was a recommendation on a thread here a while back. Jumpsuit

I think the wedding will be quite smart, but I'm very much there as a plus one. It's DP's niece, & while I like her & fiancé very much, she was an adult when we got together, so I don't know them well.

Unhelpfully, I have a very nice summer party wear jumpsuit that would be just the ticket, but it's got a black background, & really not wedding appropriate. I don't go to that many smart dos, so would ideally like to find something that would be wearable as a more everyday option in the future.

As a fallback, I do have a rather dated but definitely wedding-appropriate dress that I could wear, from when I was an age when lots of my friends & relations were getting married. DP really doesn't like it though - I think probably because I (a) rarely wear smart clothes, and (b) almost never wear dresses. Not that he ever objects to my outfits, but since I'm going as his plus one, I'd quite like to wear something which didn't weird him out Grin

Why has this thread on ‘style and beauty’ turned into an outlet for being awful to someone else, humiliating another person for their style and choices.

The OP came here for advice. This is feeling school playground. Horrid.

She came here to ask if her choices were suitable for a smart wedding.
Why ask when you can't bear to hear the word no? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Smartiepants79 · 03/02/2024 16:51

Wear the black one. I would definitely invest in a few cheap and cheerfully accessories if I was you. Personally I’d get a gold belt and shoes and make sure the rest of me looked groomed.

Cornettoninja · 03/02/2024 16:54

Are you particularly wedded to the idea of a jumpsuit?

from your first link they do separates which would be easier to dress for a wedding given the boldness of the prints.

(I’m not in the least bit ‘fashionable’ though so am just looking at what looks nice!)

The black and gold jumpsuit is the best of your options and would be absolutely fine with some strappy gold sandals, flatties if that's your preference, statement costume earrings, (gold tone), and a fine gold necklace/bracelet (or the other way around, say elegant gold coloured hoop earrings and a bigger/chunkier necklace. No need to spend loads.
Or you could accessorise the black jumpsuit with a different, bright colour. Red?Take a matching wrap if the weather's not kind?

inappropriateraspberry · 03/02/2024 16:58

You might get away with it if you dressed it up with heels. With flats, no make up and no jewellery it would look very casual.

I also love this run & fly jumpsuit but assume again too informal??

I thought you said it had to be 100% cotton? Did I misread? I suppose you did say “other natural material.” Do you define rayon as “natural”? It’s semi-synthetic, but that’s what this is, and it opens your options A LOT. If you just mean “no polyester,” that’s understandable. Because that’s what makes this really tough. No sweatshop? That’s fine - lots of places to choose from. But 100% cotton formalwear can be a little more difficult. Rayon, viscose (which it looks like your jumpsuits or dress are), cotton with small portions of silk, etc.? I think maybe we could all make recommendations for those maybe?

Don't worry, I'm old enough and ugly enough to deal with a S&B pile on Grin

Also realistically I did want opinions from people with a more conventional style, so it's been useful.

Good point - I want something that will biodegrade & not make plastic waste, which I believe is the case with rayon? But maybe I'm wrong??

I really like those culottes @IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle - they're definitely something I'd wear. And no, not wedded to a jumpsuit at all, it's just what tends to be suggested for those who don't like dresses.

That skirt in your first link is amazing @IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle.

Georgyporky · 03/02/2024 17:42

I don't think it's suitable for anything.

Have a look on Amazon for clothes - you'll be surprised what they have.
And their refund policy is excellent.

I think the sun flower jump suit would be nice for a summer wedding.

Sadik · 03/02/2024 17:46

OK, someone asked what sort of things I wear & feel comfortable in. This dress doesn't work because (a) it would be much too long, (b) slit is too high and (c) it's polyester. But it's definitely the sort of thing I would wear in terms of the print / colours & I'm pretty sure the shape would work for me.

Is this any good?

It's cotton and linen and a very ethical brand

Actually, I'm now thinking I could trawl Vinted / ebay for 2nd hand variations on the UO dress & then adapt it to fit.

I actually think the first one could be dressed up to look brilliant - but it would need some mega accessories which clearly aren’t your thing.

Thought clothing may be worth a look - some simpler jumpsuits on there that would look good with simple silver sandals and jewellery.

Browsing Narberth sounds good, there’s some great shops there.

It looks like funky workwear or pajamas.

GreyWednesday · 03/02/2024 18:18

I don’t like the jumpsuit (sorry OP!) but actually I think it could be fine for a wedding so long as you dress it up. Nice shoes, jewellery etc. Unless it’s a very formal wedding?

People can be a bit funny about what is suitable for a wedding though. I remember a thread from years ago where someone posted a link to a blue, floral jumpsuit for their little girl to ask if it was suitable for a wedding. Some people were actually commenting along the lines of “I would think you didn’t care about me at all if your child turned up to my wedding in that.”

For an outfit for a toddler!

RudolfsLeftToe · 03/02/2024 18:19

I love it! I’d pair it with heels, big earrings and fabulous sunnies.

Catsandcuddles · 03/02/2024 18:20

Sorry OP , you have an unique style which us great but I do think the first option will be mistaken for a pyjama set.

Definitely have a look on vinted if you looking for a bargain
