Could I get away with this for a summer wedding (guest)?

Looking at the green & white option - from a shop called Wild Clouds which I think was a recommendation on a thread here a while back. Jumpsuit

I think the wedding will be quite smart, but I'm very much there as a plus one. It's DP's niece, & while I like her & fiancé very much, she was an adult when we got together, so I don't know them well.

Unhelpfully, I have a very nice summer party wear jumpsuit that would be just the ticket, but it's got a black background, & really not wedding appropriate. I don't go to that many smart dos, so would ideally like to find something that would be wearable as a more everyday option in the future.

As a fallback, I do have a rather dated but definitely wedding-appropriate dress that I could wear, from when I was an age when lots of my friends & relations were getting married. DP really doesn't like it though - I think probably because I (a) rarely wear smart clothes, and (b) almost never wear dresses. Not that he ever objects to my outfits, but since I'm going as his plus one, I'd quite like to wear something which didn't weird him out Grin

Come to think of it, I might alternatively put a call out with friends, and see if I can borrow something that would do the job.

Yeah I like it too. Looks funky and interesting.

"If you're looking to throw away £80 on a new outfit surely you'd be better going round some shops and having a look for something suitable in person?"

I live in very rural Wales, so there aren't any nearby shopping options unhelpfully. (Like, if I drive 50 miles, I get to Carmarthen. Believe me, Carmarthen is not a helpful place in which to buy clothes.)

Maybe try vinted for a nice more formal looking jumpsuit instead then?

Or post pictures of what you're comfortable wearing and have worn previously and we could offer suggestions based on that? To be honest I think the bride would probably prefer you wore the black jumpsuit you already own than the one you're intending to buy.

It looks like pyjamas.

Exactly.

Mammyloveswine · 03/02/2024 15:29

That's the most hideous thing I've ever seen!!!

usernother · 03/02/2024 15:33

Good God woman! No. No. And thrice no. Pyjamas.

RuthW · 03/02/2024 15:35

I think people will snigger and think you are wearing pjs.

Gymnopedie · 03/02/2024 15:37

Trousers and a top rather than immediately thinking dress?

Otherwise it'll have to be the very dated all-purpose wedding guest dress!

Have a browse of Vinted, plenty of ‘once worn’ or new ( change of mind) wedding guest outfits.

You can also filter by decent brands you like and fabrics.

Some genuine bargains.

Sadik · 03/02/2024 15:40

OK, here's the two jumpsuits I own (blue one is more dungaree like, so I think not helpful) plus my all-purpose floral dress.

I'm not a very useful shape for women's clothes (no waist, no bust, no hips, short torso/long legs) so more formal / fitted stuff is tricky to buy 2nd hand, but I'll have a go at Vinted.

All 3 are so much nicer and more appropriate than the one you've linked to in the first post.

If you don't want to reuse them you should definitely be able to find plenty of similar items on vinted.

Sadik · 03/02/2024 15:46

I really think the black one is too black though? Maybe the blue one is OK, but it feels even more informal to me because of the dungaree type top.

The dress can definitely be my fall back if needed.

Searching for brands doesn't really help as I don't have any that I'd 'usually' wear, I live in combats & carhartt workwear trousers + rapanui t-shirts & lumberjack shirts.

What about a jumpsuit in a single colour, deep v neck, belted, smart. Dress it up with earrings and necklace and stylish sandals.
You'd probably wear that again?

And look at dresses too. You can always wear it and sell it in there again afterwards!

Lizzieregina · 03/02/2024 15:48

I think your black/gold jumpsuit is lovely and would look great with some gold sandals and nice jewelry.

I didn’t want to be first to jump on the bandwagon, but the original thing you linked made me think of pyjamas right away.

Suggestions for places / brands to look at welcome, but realistically not V-neck, they don't work with no boobs to fill them out. I can just about get away with the black jumpsuit above because it's halter neck so can tie to fit.

I don't think it's too black at all. It's got a nice pattern to it and is formal enough for a formal summer wedding. I've seen plenty of people in similar jumpsuits at weddings over the last year.

LilianaVikavanovich · 03/02/2024 15:49

@Sadik very true , I live about 5 miles from Carmarthen , it’s fine if you’re a short size 16 who lives in black trousers with elastic waists
Actually , I like the jumpsuit / trouser suit option you posted

Looks like something I'd wear to bed!

If I'm honest, I'd have worn it & thought no more of it if I hadn't seen so many people having their arses handed them on a plate on this board for contemplating wearing much less black items to a wedding...

On their website you can get trousers in that print I think those, smart block colour top and maybe a jacket or cardigan with sandels and a decent bag would look funky

SgtJuneAckland · 03/02/2024 15:54

The more I look at it the more I think it could be ok, depending on your style and how you accessorise it. I'd look like I was wearing pyjamas but my slender boy shaped friend with funky hair would put a pair of hot pink heels on and look great, if you're brave enough order it try it on and post a picture.
Your other items all look a bit dated/worn out

OP posts:
Getonnow · 03/02/2024 15:55

I'd say no, but TBH I can't think of anywhere to wear that so I'm probably not the person to ask.

If you a person who can pull that off, you can probably wear it anywhere.
