Could I get away with this for a summer wedding (guest)?

Looking at the green & white option - from a shop called Wild Clouds which I think was a recommendation on a thread here a while back. Jumpsuit

I think the wedding will be quite smart, but I'm very much there as a plus one. It's DP's niece, & while I like her & fiancé very much, she was an adult when we got together, so I don't know them well.

Unhelpfully, I have a very nice summer party wear jumpsuit that would be just the ticket, but it's got a black background, & really not wedding appropriate. I don't go to that many smart dos, so would ideally like to find something that would be wearable as a more everyday option in the future.

As a fallback, I do have a rather dated but definitely wedding-appropriate dress that I could wear, from when I was an age when lots of my friends & relations were getting married. DP really doesn't like it though - I think probably because I (a) rarely wear smart clothes, and (b) almost never wear dresses. Not that he ever objects to my outfits, but since I'm going as his plus one, I'd quite like to wear something which didn't weird him out Grin

Whistle summer jumpsuit. Quite a few the same as this one on here.

I've added a photo of it worn at a wedding from a different ( more expensive) listing.

If I'm honest, I'd have worn it & thought no more of it if I hadn't seen so many people having their arses handed them on a plate on this board for contemplating wearing much less black items to a wedding...

No reason why you can't wear the black one.

There's no reason in theory why you can't wear the green children's pyjama jumpsuit either. I usually go against MN conservative attitudes about what's acceptable as a wedding guest (or anything else) but honestly I laughed out loud when I clicked on the link. The "his and hers" matching outfits are hilarious.

DaphneMoo · 03/02/2024 15:58

The black and gold one is absolutely fine for a wedding ( have to agree the green one looks like a boilersuit)

Enterthewolves · 03/02/2024 15:58

I am going against the tide and say yes go for it. I really like it.

Honestly just wear the black one it's lovely. You seem to have read some posts about black being inappropriate and instead swung completely the other way. The black one will be a much safer choice than the green PJ honestly the sunflower jumpsuit you've just posted is absolutely not wedding attire unless you truly want people talking about how much you hate the bride and groom.

You own the black one already, you feel comfortable in it so I'd choose that one.

Donutsforbreakfast · 03/02/2024 16:02

Well I love it! (was actually looking at this, the other day but thought it would be too short for me, I'm tall).
Maybe a snazzy belt and statement earrings would schuzz (juzz? How do you spell that?) it up a bit but I'd say go for it, why does everything have to be traditional or safe to be 'appropriate'

IGoWalkingAfterMidnight · 03/02/2024 16:02

Why don't you pop in to Narbeth? You would probably find something you like here:

https://www.rocknrollaemporium.co.uk/

I'd go with espadrille wedges though to make the jumpsuit smarter!

I like the black one. The other two you posted certainly are a bit different though.

GellerYeller · 03/02/2024 16:04

From the options you’ve suggested it seems you have a signature style, so please don’t feel pushed into dressing as someone else. Of the items you’ve posted, I like the black best, quirky accessories would look fab with that and add your own personality into the mix. . The sunflower outfit is my least favourite I’m afraid.

Vinted is really good for once worn occasion wear if you feel you must buy something new and more conservative.

Onlyvisiting · 03/02/2024 16:04

I'm dreadful at clothes and never dress up so this might ve terrible advice........
But if you are worried the black one is too dark could you add a jacket in a complementary 'notblack' colour to brighten and dress up the overall effect? Maybe coordinating shoes etc as appropriate

HowDoTheyGetThroughLife · 03/02/2024 16:04

It's hideous and very unsuitable for a wedding. Do you work as a children's entertainer??

StarlightLime · 03/02/2024 16:05

I also love this run & fly jumpsuit but assume again too informal??

Seriously, just no 😵‍💫

😮😮

That is quite something….and so very ugly.

I’d wear the black jumpsuit or if you must wear something garish then the green pyjamas.

We have a place down west, I’m tempted to drop you something off OP 😂

Good idea - I'd thought of them as Run&Fly stockists mostly (& the jumpsuit I just posted got a total thumbs down) but they might have something else.

Actually, there's good charity shops there too which might very easily have something appropriate, & I'm sure to be passing by before the summer.

I don't like jumpsuits full stop. I'd be just as miserable if I had to wear a Nancy Mac jumpsuit or that Whistles jumpsuit or the OP's green pyjamas choice, but it's all subjective.

If I were forced to wear a jumpsuit suit I'd pick the OP's green pyjamas over a Nancy Mac or the Whistles one. As long of course as my male companion wasn't wearing a matching one.

Maybe with decent shoes, flats or heels , but not trainers and absent the matching male companion it might be OK. I prefer it over the Run and Fly one. It's a better material and I've seen the Run and Fly pattern a lot.

sprigatito · 03/02/2024 16:10

Good grief you can't wear that, you'll look like Mr Tumble 😳

Sadik · 03/02/2024 16:11

I'm safe from that @IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle - DP invariably wears check shirts from the farmers co-op + jeans, and will wear his one suit that he owns for the wedding. So much easier being a bloke for events like this!

OP posts:
BCBird · 03/02/2024 16:12

I would say no too.

Honestly once I've got over laughing at the his and hers photos I'm sort of coming round to it; if only because it's not a nice jumpsuit from Nancy Mac or Whistles or wherever.

What would you wear on your feet?

XiCi · 03/02/2024 16:16

The two you have linked to are the most hideous jumpsuits I've ever seen, so much so that I've concluded you are taking the piss out of us.
The black one you already own is absolutely fine if you accessorise it for a wedding

Mynewnameis · 03/02/2024 16:17

That place in narberth looks great. I must visit.

It is! Lovely people in there too - I've bought a few things there when we've been in the area and I live east of Cardiff!

How would you accessorise it?

With slippers, dressing gown and a mug of hot chocolate.

MarnieCo · 03/02/2024 16:43

Why has this thread on ‘style and beauty’ turned into an outlet for being awful to someone else, humiliating another person for their style and choices.

The OP came here for advice. This is feeling school playground. Horrid.

DelphiniumBlue · 03/02/2024 16:46

If you are not prepared to glam it up, with a big belt or cummerband and strappy heels and statement jewellery, then no, it absolutely won't do for a wedding, let alone a smart one.
If the wedding guest dress you already have is not appropriate/you don't feel comfortable in it, then you'll have to get something else. If you are slim, you should be able to find something in a charity shop. Maybe you can borrow something from a friend? Or trousers and a really nice shirt, maybe silk or some lovely colour? Smart doesn't have to be dresses, and doesn't have to mean new.
