Mine is that often when trousers are described as 'high-waisted', they are not at all high waisted on me. They just aren't hipsters!

Cheap, nasty fabric and unnecessary frills or add-ons.

Pigtailsandall · 02/02/2024 19:54

Colorful Standard has a classic crew-neck tee in about gazillion colours. I haven't bought one, but i went to see them in store and the cotton was nice and heavy in weight.

They have some great colours, I wish I could afford that, maybe for Christmas. My price point is more at the Rapanai level but there just arent the colours in the women's.

stringbean · 02/02/2024 20:19

I have some long sleeve crew neck cotton t-shirts from Kettlewell and have been quite pleased with them. Might be worth checking out for short sleeve although the neck is lower on the short sleeved version. The ones I have come in a variety of colours and have washed and worn very well and not faded. The long sleeved ones are a good length - I'm long-bodied and most t shirts are way too short (another gripe!).

NotMeNoNo · 02/02/2024 20:23

Community clothing for T shirts surely.

Also I cant speak for T shirts but I have a great organic cotton hoody from Anthem, another custom supplier but you can buy them plain too.

Tigger1895 · 02/02/2024 20:32

My gripe is with thigh width. I’m a size 12/14 but jeans these days seem to be completely off. There’s constantly too much material around the thighs. M&S, Levi’s, etc all seem to follow the same template and I’m struggling to find a properly fitting pair

kittykarate · 02/02/2024 20:34

Fruit of the Loom do ladies fit tshirts too, but I don't know if they're as thick as the mens. You can often find them in workwear catalogues or places that do embroidered promotional t shirts.

@BitOutOfPractice

I love the frills round the bottom of dresses and skirts! So much so that it will put me off buying something if it doesn't have a frill.

I love long tiered skirts and dresses too, I always have done, since I was a young teen.

greengreengrass25 · 02/02/2024 15:21

Thank goodness for the high waisted trousers

The low rise were so uncomfortable and not high enough.

I hate both high waisted and low rise - give me mid-rise any day, but they are not so easy to find now.

Well good for you. I’d like to have a choice

BebbanburgIsMine · 02/02/2024 23:16

@BitOutOfPractice

There's plenty of dresses and skirts that don't have any frills or tiers.

For years I couldn't find many clothes I liked, I hate tailored things for example. I was so happy when the midi/midaxi dresses came back, I love them!

I only wear pink, aqua/teal or pale blue, I hate trousers and not keen on jeans either, so finding all these dresses in the shops was just wonderful for me.

I hope you find clothes that you like and enjoy wearing, no need for the "good for you" comment.

That's just silly - you do have a choice. There's loads of shops and websites selling dresses and skirts without a frill; probably more than there are with frills.

IloveAslan · 02/02/2024 23:20

stringbean · 02/02/2024 18:17

My gripe - apart from most shops not stocking shoes bigger than a size 41 and the plethora of man-made fabrics everywhere - is the volume of stuff in shops and on websites. I had a look at the Boden sale and there were 718 dresses. Who needs that kind of choice?? I don't want to/have time to wade through that many. Give me a choice of 10 or 15 well-made dresses in different styles and decent fabric and I'm far more likely to find something suitable. The problem with too many choices is that you are always left thinking there's something better out there and you've likely made the wrong choice. Which probably leads you to make another purchase. And another....

Alongside the above is the increasing number of 'drops' every shop now has to have each season. Just give me one season's worth of decent quality items that stay in the shop for months - please!!!: I can have a think about it, save up for something that's worth paying extra for, and be genuinely happy with a purchase, rather then be rushed into a poor decision because it will sell out or disappear to make way for the next 'drop'.

All the joy has been taken out of shopping. It's like TV - 300 channels and nothing to watch. Right, rant over!

I totally agree! I used to love shopping, and there was such excitement when the new season's clothing appeared. Now I rarely shop in person as I can't find anything I like, so buy online, with the usual minefield of having to send a lot of stuff back, costing money to both be sent to me and sent back, and then in many cases having to wait ages for a refund. I would like to go into a local shop, see a range of sizes in a few good quality, well made garments in decent materials.

Strangely enough, even with the multiple choices, and the many drops each season, there still are few things I even want to buy. I no longer find clothes shopping a joy and rarely get excited about it - and the clothes I have in my mind that I would like just don't seem to exist.

Just on polyester, I don't really sweat, always very cold. I use minimal natural deodorant. Natural fabrics I could wear for days, they just don't smell after being worn. But as soon as I wear polyester, I smell by lunchtime.

I only wear natural fabrics, and find the same. Even in summer in NZ I wear the same tops or dresses for days on end, and even when I do decide they need a wash it is more likely because I have spilt something on them rather than them smelling.

VitoCorleoneOfMNMafia · 02/02/2024 23:45

ImInACage · 02/02/2024 16:46

Shoulder seams. I'm tired of every women's top having the shoulder seams midway down the arm. It makes the whole cut unflattering as there is no shape from side to halfway down the sleeve, just a big flappy bit of fabric. What happened to having the shoulder seams at the edge of the actual shoulders?

That would involve adding darts, which takes longer and costs more.

That's a bold admission given the MN obsession about washing clothes !

(You're right of course)

Some of the clothes washing threads have me banging my head against the table in frustration! Grin

I agree. Washing jeans after one wear is just bonkers if they are still clean.

Can anyone recommend 100% cotton crew neck t-shirts, full length, available in a range of strong or natural colours? I mostly like the purple-blue-green spectrum and some neutrals like oat and chocolate.

It's coming up with black, white, green and blue for me. I like the blue but it's only available in xxs and xs. Men's have 9 colours.

I think I'm going to have to keep buying men's as I can't afford £30 for a t-shirt at colourful standard, although they look great.

29'' inside legs.
Can't bear it. I don't want to wear cropped trousers in the winter with weird knee high socks or tights underneath. I don't even have very long legs. I just want what used to be standard, 30'' or more.

29 inches is a standard length for me, not cropped. My experience is different, most trousers I find are way too long for me and I am 5 ft 5, which I thought was average height for women? Have you looked Cos? They do clothes for taller scandi type women

I'm 5ft 5 and need a 31 inch, leg length varies.

PauliesWalnuts · 03/02/2024 08:24

You’re right, leg length certainly does vary - I’m 5ft 6in and need a 28 thanks to my long waist and stumpy legs 😢

Most of the colours are too muted and sludgy. I wouldn't say that there was a wide range of colours TBH.

Chillinvibes · 03/02/2024 08:29

Maxi style dresses that are almost floor length with the high neckline some with garish prints or drab colours. I don’t like showing too much flesh but I have an ample bust and do like to look feminine and show an ankle or calf now and again.
Those patterns that look like they’re faded or 20 years old already.
’Faux’ leather - it’s not leather!!!
Polyester in everything not reflected in the price point even high end.
Someone else mentioned when did cotton, wool and leather become premium that’s what our clothes and shoes used to be made of as standard
