Mine is that often when trousers are described as 'high-waisted', they are not at all high waisted on me. They just aren't hipsters!

@Meadowfinch I think we might be the same person 🤣
I'm same height and have same problems. I want long sleeves, long legs, and a proper waist!

Me too.

Yes. I knew that. It uses more water than any other fabric.

I watched a Stacey Dooley programme about how jeans were made. It was depressing.

Water goes around the water cycle and comes back though. The problem is when the waste water is polluted

I just wish 6ft dd could get a pair of dungarees she’s likes with long enough legs.

Jeans are too stretchy. I've had so many well-fitting pairs that do that weird puckery rippling thing after a while, usually at the crotch. (I hope you know what I'm talking about...)

Look for 100% cotton

Yes, why are the floors always so dusty? Whenever I’m carrying eg a maxi dress, it’s ruined if it touches the floor!

Also my Zara has separate queues for returns and purchases but they’re each ridiculously long. Has Zara got significantly more popular in the 2020s or do they just run with bare minimum staff?

Yours has a returns queue you say?! 😮 Ours has two people manning the tills in a leisurely fashion, and failing to open a third even when there’s a queue round the shop, BLOCKING the changing rooms, and several other staff just floating around, totally unconcerned about the queue.
I’ve sent one of the kids to menswear to phone me if the queue there is shorter. It inevitably is.

It's really annoying. I can tumble all of DH clothes, because they are all heavy cotton. Polo's and jeans etc. Pretty much none of mine can be tumbled, not even the cotton t's because they are thin and badly made 😡

I have some men's and women's t-shirts, same brand, thankfully the same weight, but the women's are not hemmed nearly as well on the sleeve or bottom hem so they come down.

greengreengrass25 · 01/02/2024 19:26

I thought I'd like the wide legged trousers but they are a bit drafty itms

Organic cotton is ok.

Organic cotton, as l understand it, refers to the growing process including no insecticides etc. But it still requires significant amounts of water though and does not include the processing and the dyes

Pigtailsandall, Oasis used to be a lovely store for merchandising “looks”. The ones on Argyll St & Piccadilly Circus were a pleasure to shop in. Such a nice experience!

Now, everything in the shops is just shoved onto rails.

FluffyFanny · 01/02/2024 19:45

They have lovely thick cotton t-shirts in The White Company.

Thanks, but they are £37 and there are no colours.

HolidayAtNight · 01/02/2024 20:01

And another one! Lots of shops that sell retro clothing seem to have started just calling it vintage, and come up higher in the search listings than ACTUAL vintage shops. I don't want to scroll through a load of 40s and 50s repro (and worse, cheaply made - though not always cheap - "vintage-inspired" dresses) first. It feels like everything is getting less authentic, and that "real" things are harder to find.

lovescats3 · 01/02/2024 20:03

Are the bras still good in m and s or has that gone to the dogs ?

Walkingwashingmachine · 01/02/2024 20:06

The solution to this whole problem is for Me+Em to reduce their prices tenfold so we could load up with their lovely stuff. They should charge a maximum of £50 for their fanciest dress rather than £500. That would make Me happy + that should therefore make Em happy too.

They were always shit!

moggerhanger · 01/02/2024 20:49

Rapanui do good basic cotton tshirts, that also have a £5 credit if you return them when they wear out.

FluffyFanny · 01/02/2024 20:50

Cos t-shirts are fab!

Princessfluffy · 01/02/2024 20:50

I hate the dropped shoulders that are so ubiquitous.
Also the man made fabrics even at higher price points. So hard to find a wool jumper or a wool coat now.

Also wish shops would give measurements of their clothes eg for trousers the actual waist size, inside leg and rise.

For dresses the chest size and length etc
You'd think this would reduce returns.

I do appreciate that there are more models now who are more representative of the people who actually buy the clothes in age and shape.

Also find it hard to get clothes that are in bright colours. Fed up with a sea of beige and neutrals.

Princessfluffy · 01/02/2024 20:51

Also changing rooms don't really feel like safe spaces anymore.

blorfl · 01/02/2024 20:59

Shit quality

Howtheweeshtwaswon · 01/02/2024 21:01

Bravissimo. WTF happened to their bras? All stetchy cheap straps, zero support. Also the colours are so boring

I have these but the hems come undone on the women's, men's have lasted forever. I can't get the QR code to scan on a worn out t-shirt either, it's obviously faded.

IloveAslan · 01/02/2024 21:19

I'm in NZ and have to add to the complaints about so much polyester and viscose. I generally only buy cotton, linen, or merino garments, and do manage to find enough for my needs. However it is infuriating to see something nice and then be disappointment when you touch it and find out what it is made of. I don't mind wearing viscose, at a pinch, but it goes quite strange when washed and I hate the feel of it. Luckily I am older so not looking at the latest fashions. Jeans also annoy me - I like a tiny bit of elastane, say 1%, but many have much more and also polyester has crept into them as well.

Hopefully someone will pick up this thread and see how much frustration there is about fabrics, sizing etc. and do something about it.
