After the delivery of my youngest my skin looked like I’m a corpse. Tragic isn’t it. Anyway I went back on retin an and adjusted quickly and now I’m Vaseline slugging on top of it, absolutely game changed. My skin looks so bouncy! It’s not for everyone but it’s worked for me!

Thanks, OP. I am not impressed with my tret yet. This sounds very greasy but I may give it a try.

ItookYourJob · 28/01/2024 12:12

Wouldn’t any barrier cream work? Or does it have to be vasiline?

Abitlosttoday · 28/01/2024 15:38

I have been on prescription strength tret for about 18 months. Recently, combined with slugging, it has really delivered for my skin. It is definitely a long term game. If you can get past the extreme dryness I think it is worth the effort.

Ok talk me through this. What is tretinoin, where can I get it, and what is slugging?!

pharmachameleon · 28/01/2024 20:26

I thought Vaseline might lock in and potentiate the effects of tretinoin. Do you apply it the same night you apply tret OP? If so I might give it a try as I still peel despite being on tret for about 8 years.

goingdownfighting · 28/01/2024 20:32

I do similar but use Vichy hyaluronic with cicaolast on top. So plumpy! Make up goes on like a dream!

goingdownfighting · 28/01/2024 20:32

@pharmachameleon I alternate every night.

pharmachameleon · 28/01/2024 20:54

@goingdownfighting ah thanks! So you apply tret one night and slug with moisturisers, Vaseline and no tret the next night?

goingdownfighting · 28/01/2024 20:56

Tret one night, slug the next, tret the day after.

If I'm home all day I'll slug in the morning and tret at night.

pharmachameleon · 28/01/2024 21:40

@goingdownfighting great. I'm trying hard to get to every night with tret but my skin is still flaky when I apply foundation. I'll try your method and cut down how I often I apply.

Garlicnaan · 28/01/2024 21:52

WTF is slugging

Ap24 · 28/01/2024 21:53

I alternate tret and slugging. But I prefer the thick Nivea in the massive blue tin to vaseline.

JonnyTheDogFacedBoy · 28/01/2024 21:58

Wait, everyone stop a minute. Can you explain what all of this means, in very simple terms, possibly with glove puppets and subtitles?

Literally explain the whole process like I just arrived on earth.

Yes please. Stop with the strange verbs and show us some line drawings and/or gifs!!!

I slug on mine tret nights but with aquaphor. Curel, then a thick moisturiser and then aquaphor - it’s really reduced my peeling. I alternate tret and non-tret nights. Haven’t slugged on top of tret as I’ve heard it’s not a good idea. Might be worth trying?

VanGoghsDog · 28/01/2024 22:11

It doesn't mean anything other than "applying".

If people like putting a layer of petroleum jelly over their face I guess they have to try to glamorise it with an incomprehensible name.

43ontherocksporfavor · 28/01/2024 22:13

Like a slug has crawled over your face?

Like a slug has crawled over your face?

Apparently so, from the sheen it leaves
(According to Google)

43ontherocksporfavor · 28/01/2024 22:19

So it’s like my granny used to do with Ponds cold cream?

Yep, exactly that.

🤷‍♀️ I'm here for that answer!

Walking2024now24days · 28/01/2024 22:48

Does the treat make your face dry & peel?

I can't imagine putting Vaseline all over my face, or the state if the pillow cases.

Lovingthegrungerevival · 29/01/2024 00:43

LillyLeaf · 28/01/2024 22:02

Yes please, so confused

Slugging is a modern term for using occlusives to seal moisture into the skin - something that people have been doing for decades.
