What are people wearing in London at the moment?

I am off to London with ds in a couple of weeks, we are doing touristy things, Going to the theatre and seeing friends, so all quite casual. I have lost a couple of stone, but not really gained any new clothes. I fancy something a little bit less frumpy for my trip. Particularly some new outerwear, but I am open to other ideas. I am a bit skint so extra points if you find it on Vinted. I am 5'5 and currently a size 12/14. Light brown hair and just little bit blah at the moment.
So, hit me up with some ideas please.

OP I'm doing similar this week, London theatre then a meal. Think I might go wode jeans, DMs, silk blouse, silver necklace and earrings, long wool coat.
Might put a cashmere jumper on if it's cold.

BigHorseLittleHorse · 25/01/2024 22:20

I was there last couple of days for work and one of the things I spotted women wearing which I hadn’t seen before was wide leg or bootcut faux leather trousers. With trainers.

Not my bag but they seemed popular. I was wearing super flare jeans and Chelsea boots.

Dazedandcovidconfused · 25/01/2024 22:28

It’s looking v 90s, wide leg trousers, straight leg jeans, chunky trainers, chunky boots, bias cut maxi skirts, ribbed tops, long wool coats…

RomainesToBeSeen · 25/01/2024 22:33

I was down last week and the lady opposite me on the tube was wearing yellow dungarees, burgundy DMs, a silver jumper and a woolly bobble hat.

She looked great. I think you should go for similar OP. 😊😊😊

mynameiscalypso · 25/01/2024 18:22

Just to say, it's really mild here at the moment. A number of people at work didn't even bother with coats today.

I was going to say that. It’s 12 degrees. In January! Went for a walk by the Thames and had to take my coat off.

TooningOut · 25/01/2024 22:47

Agree that it'll be the same as any other major city or town.

I can remember visiting London for the first time in 2000 and being totally blown away by how cool and different the fashion was to Dublin. Social media has put paid to that now, everything is very the samey.

MoveOnTheCards · 25/01/2024 22:59

Blimey the over-think is incredible. I live in London, work in an ‘cool’ industry and just wear whatever! It’s a massive city with so many people, honestly just wear what makes you feel good and you’ll be golden!

On various days over the last week I’ve worn jeans in 3 different fits, pleather trousers, 2 or 3 styles of coat, chunky knits, fine knits, a blouse/shit and a full on tracky. Shoes have been either trainers or boots (heels and flats). There is no ‘look’, just be comfy and enjoy your visit!

MoveOnTheCards · 25/01/2024 23:01

And yes to the only real ‘advice’ otherwise is layers because the tube is always hot and other than along the river or on any of the commons on a windy day, it’s not especially cold outside!

DelphiniumBlue · 25/01/2024 23:07

The women I work with ( 20s and 30s) are wearing trainers or thick soled boots, wide leg trousers or sports type trousers ( Adidas jogging bottom type things) and plain neutral coloured big jumpers. Younger girls/women seem to be wearing very baggy jeans/cargo pants and cropped tops. Slightly older ones are wearing wide leg trousers and fitted tops ( thin jumpers, polo necks,)no-one seems to wearing heels during the day, and not many in the evening. But I'm not in the City.

MyFirstLittlePony · 25/01/2024 23:10

I used to dress for London

But like people say, it no longer looks super hip/stylish etc

Def wide leg trousers, shoes with very chunky soles, quite a lot of 90s style too

totalnamechanger · 25/01/2024 23:19

A shove if you’re in London, PinkEasterBunny 😁

DappledThings · 25/01/2024 23:27

I can confirm I was in London as usual today and was wearing clothes. So choose some of those and you'll be fine.

Beepbeep12345 · 25/01/2024 23:33

Recent outfits.

Well today I wore a big oversized grungy black Samsoe Samsoe dress with DMs, a very old long Cos black cardy and my new sale purchase hot pink Marant Etoile Fontizi coat. Love it. Feel like I stick out like a beacon in among a sea of black and grey in that one!

Yesterday, khaki corduroy trousers from Uniqlo with DMs and a black Cos jumper and Cos oversized black coat.

Otherwise WFH this week so leggings and a range of jumpers and a new American Vintage denim jacket/shacket - kind of bleached pink colour.

Before these, fake leather mini, tights, DMs (two pairs on rotation all winter) with aforementioned Cos jumper and hot pink coat.

Um. Ganni leopard betzy jeans. DMs. Big black jumper from Cos or ASOS.

Good American faux leather shiny black trousers with thermals and super soft lilac Ganni jumper.

Dog walking outfit tends to be WFH outfit plus old parks or old marant etoile check coat in beige. With disgusting walking shoes and cross body ganni nylon job.

Bags - either an old Madewell very plain black leather tote for laptop/work or giant Cos bubble bag or 15 year old Marc Jacobs cross body.

If anyone has any suggestions of what I can wear my hot pink check coat with other than all black I'm all ears!! Would clash with the Ganni leopard jeans wouldn't it?

Wictc · 25/01/2024 23:33

Where are you going in London? It’s a huge place. I’d glam up more to the Ritz ballroom, but would just wear normal clothes if out in Shoreditch.

I can walk 30mins one way from my house and see people in ‘University of London/Oxford/Cambridge hoodies and a Union Jack hat, or 30mins in the other way and see neutral tasteful/boring coordinates, or pink tutus and DMs!

Beepbeep12345 · 25/01/2024 23:34

Oh and new trainers are black suede Adidas gazelles with very pale yellow stripe.

Cantthinkofafruit · 25/01/2024 23:41

As several people have mentioned, the younguns are generally looking quite 90s at the moment: for the winter it seems to be chunky Chelsea boots or DMs, unflattering jeans and puffy jackets.

(No idea if this is unique to London as I haven't left in a worryingly long time)

https://www.whowhatwear.co.uk/london-fashion-trends-2024

cross body bags worn high (Uniqlo) appear to be in still.

This reminded me - I forgot I've also been wearing a black satin maxi skirt regularly. You guessed it, with a big jumper and DMs or the new Adidas

OwlWeiwei · 26/01/2024 00:04

Chunky boots and cropped wide leg or balloon leg cords, jeans or wool trousers are in with a chunky knit waist length jumper.

Also seen loads of women in bias cut satin maxi skirts with fluffy jumpers and chunky boots. I love that look.

Supersimkin2 · 26/01/2024 00:14

Not as much as you think - London’s hotter than most of the UK.

Loose or layerable coat/shacket. Today I wore a roomy Zara lambswool midi dress in black, green whistles shacket and furry trainers to work. Vast bag to fit the shopping.

Twat any rival briskly for a tube seat without looking up, and you’ll pass as a native in no time. Go shopping!

Divebar2021 · 26/01/2024 00:21

Have to say when I visited Liverpool and Nottingham it was not the same vibe at all.

WriterOfWrongs · 26/01/2024 01:48

(And I'm not taking style advice from anyone who talks about "a pop of burgundy")

What a coincidence @IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle , (And I'm not taking style advice from anyone who talks about a 'pop of burgundy'), complete with parenthesis, is the title of my new collection of short stories. I shall be doing readings from it in a sardonic matter at a niche selection of London literary salons. I will naturally be dressed head to toe in claret hues. Because the moral of the stories: don't just go for a pop... commit.

fedupwithbeinghot · 26/01/2024 07:45

I went out for dinner in London yesterday. My friend was coming straight from work. She was wearing a black fitted dress and boots. Very smart. I work from home, so I was wearing a knee length casual dress, OTK flat boots and a black oversized blazer

London feels much warmer than other places because of the amount of people, plus it gets hot in the tube

skippy67 · 26/01/2024 07:53

Deargodletitgo · 25/01/2024 22:05

Not London, but was just in Milan. Wide leg jeans, combat boots or trainers, fake fur jackets, lots of black.

🤣🤣🤣

PrawnDumplings · 26/01/2024 08:13

Well it's the biggest most diverse city in the country. So tbh we are not all wearing the same thing.
Wear whatever you like love.

PrawnDumplings · 26/01/2024 08:13

And it's sunny here right now, but I'd still wear a coat!
