hardcore moisturising night cream -low cost recommendations?

hi troops, I have a skin regime for in the day (spf moisturiser on most of face, tretinoin on forehead/sides of eyes) but now/at the moment my skin seems to feel dry by the evening.

As the tretinoin is already expensive for me, I don't want to spend a massive amount. I've tried vaseline as I had some lying around, or lotion mixed with olive oil etc, but think I might get something as a night cream. What would you recommend?

La Roche-Posay Cicoplast Balm is great with tret. Boots often have it on offer and a big tube lasts me months.

This is great, but gave me milia

Tret should only be used at night as uv light “deactivates” (that’s the best word I can think of) it. If I’ve misunderstood, sorry.

I use a Lidl Q10 night crean which costs £1.49 plus Squalane on top.

Not true

Missimnot · 25/01/2024 16:10

Ive linked to 2 korean( i think) products . Both are a bit more costly but last ages and are effective. I think that market is good on skin care .

Also dr c vegan tree essence was a game changer for me . I use am . Its not cheap and you can get cheaper versions . But for hydration its amazing.

Sageyboots · 25/01/2024 16:12

Sukin Rosehip night cream is lovely

Theforeverhome · 26/01/2024 12:13

@howaboutapartysong I may have misunderstood about what happens to tret after you put it on your skin (possibly after reading one too many social media posts about it 😀), but I thought the generally accepted practice was to apply at night, least of all to protect your newly "exfoliated" skin against UV and that's why you need to use it with sunscreen to see any benefit from use. I'm using it for wrinkles not acne so does that make a difference?

In any event, I don't think my makeup would stay put if it went on after all the moisturiser and squalane I slather on to keep my skin from flaking after tret 😀

Cotswoldmama · 26/01/2024 12:54

I use tret, I've got a prescription to skin+Me for mine. Here's a link for get a month's trail for free just p&p 3.50

I use the blue nivea most nights. Tret on first wait 10 mins for it to soak in then I use hyaluronic acid and then coat in nivea. I like the fact that it doesn't immediately soak in because I see it as holding in the moisture of the hyaluronic acid as well as slowly soaking in fir more moisture! When I wake up my skin feels really soft and plumped. I used vaseline occasionally to slug but found that nivea works better.

Nat6999 · 26/01/2024 13:25

I use aqueous cream, cheap as chips, £3.50 for 500ml tub. I use it as a cleanser with a hot flannel & then reapply as a moisturiser.

Bought the Nivea q10 as a few recommended on here ( the day cream ) tried it yesterday . Woke up this morning to a red face and one eye slightly swollen eye ( did not put on eye ) so that's a no from me .

I am allergic to the day cream, I have super sensitive skin and can only use the night cream. I used to be fine with the day cream
but they must have changed an ingredient as I started to get red blotches on my face, the same thing happened with the eye cream too.
Now I use a nivea day cream that is in a tube and that isn’t Q10. I also like an Avon cream but have currently run out of it.

Not many things recommended were in a not overly large Boots, I'll have to try the one in town.

I got a Boots own brand Q10 night cream. It's made my skin nice and soft, but doesn't feel as hardcore as it could be. I suppose hardcoreism might give me breakouts eventually though.

I used to have a nice extreme moisturising thing years ago by No.7 so will look at their stuff. It could've been this https://www.boots.com/no7-instant-results-nourishing-hydration-mask-10239449 but I used to leave it on quite a lot lol

I use Aldi Lacura Caviar night cream (not the day cream). I used to spend a fortune on Neal's Yard Frankincense Intense cream but found that the Lacura one works exactly the same, although I slightly miss the smell of Frankincense.

Try using Nip + Fab Dragon's Blood serum in the morning, underneath spf and makeup. It's temporary but it does nicely plump up the skin and makes wrinkles less noticeable. https://www.nipandfab.com/products/dragons-blood-fix-plumping-serum

The Dragon's Blood Fix Plumping Serum is a lightweight moisturiser perfect for dehydrated skin. It also helps reduce lines and feels great.

Nivea Q10 Night Cream. Or if you want to go even cheaper, Aldi & Lidl do Q10 too

Rainbowshit · 28/01/2024 00:20

Weleda skin food is my favourite night cream

Flobbyblob · 25/02/2024 11:43

Just wanted to follow up on this as I have been recommending Nivea blue but I’m doing a uturn as after slapping it on for six months I’ve found it’s making my skin a bit ‘pudding’ like, and saggy. Apparently too much gunk can do this. So just go steady. I’m back on serums and lotions.

CeriB82 · 25/02/2024 13:03

If your skin is dry at the dnd of the day your day moisturiser isn’t doing well

i use Cerave. And vitamin C serum. My skin is dry and sensitive, but a combination of the two has transformed my skin. Its plump and clear and not tight anymore

43ontherocksporfavor · 25/02/2024 21:33

Cream won’t make you saggy… it just happens!

Sorry, but it does. I have since stopped using Nivea Blue on my face and already my skin has gone back to feeling tigher and less stodgy even after a couple of days. Whilst I was using it, it felt squidy where the cream was obviously just sitting in my skin.

There are loads of articles available about over moisturising.

I like using oils a few times a week for moisture at night and on occasional days I don’t go out as they don’t work well for me with makeup.

I thought any kind of retinol should be used strictly at night.

I had a terrible reaction to Tret when I tried it last year, apart from the redness and flaking my eyes were really irritated, gave up after a few months and it took ages for my skin to recover.
