hardcore moisturising night cream -low cost recommendations?

porridgeisbae · 21/01/2024 21:46

hi troops, I have a skin regime for in the day (spf moisturiser on most of face, tretinoin on forehead/sides of eyes) but now/at the moment my skin seems to feel dry by the evening.

As the tretinoin is already expensive for me, I don't want to spend a massive amount. I've tried vaseline as I had some lying around, or lotion mixed with olive oil etc, but think I might get something as a night cream. What would you recommend?

All the bonkers people slathering vaseline on, do you wash you hair daily? It would get everywhere wouldn't it? All over the pillow and your hair?

It absorbs after a bit. Olive oil took longer to absorb. Grin

I'm not having a go at anyone but isthe new thing oily skin?

@Mrsjayy We are speaking of stuff to use at night when/if the person feels they need something.

But yes, a dewy look is quite 'in.' So for instance if people are highlighting bits of their face, it mimics an oilier complexion, but without actually being oily. Smile

@Anxhor I’m 52 and don’t have wrinkles but do have frown lines and crows feet. Lines don’t bother me as much as my face starting to migrate south. Never smoked, haven’t sunbathed since 20s and have always used spf . I do think being overweight plumps up the skin, isn’t the saying “ After 50 choose your face or your bum!” 😂 I’m not over weight I do have some fit friends that run and their bodies look great but face not so young. It’s tough.

Edited

I would call my crow's feet and forehead lines, wrinkles. Smile It's true, I can't be overly skinny now without looking like I've just been dug up from a crypt. Some people can maybe do it and still look ok as they get older, but I can't. It's nice not to be on as much of a restricted diet though. I wouldn't want to be overweight but about a 12 is ok if it means I look less decrepit than I would at a size 8-10.

I use palmer coconut. It's just the £5 bottle. I used to make my own body butter with pure coconut oil, but this is just as good. Leaves me all dewey and glowing.
It's good for super dry skin, it hugely improves my gardener hands😂

I have had severe (has had me hospitalised) eczema all my life. Altruist skin cream has changed my life (Amazon) and very cheap.

Can I ask which cream specifically I have horrible eczema on my hand I'd love to improve.

Mrsgreen100 · 23/01/2024 13:39

Yes cleansing with hot fannels and m moisture, moisturising faith and whole body
ih and cooking ! Different pots though

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 23/01/2024 14:05

@lola8345 which Palmers coconut?

Ive just googled and there’s millions and I’m lost😂

lifebeginz · 23/01/2024 15:20

I love blue tub nivea when skin is extra dry! Marvellous stuff! I also like Clinique moisture surge overnight mask (though it is expensive) and the Body Shop vitamin e serum in oil maybe once a week or so :)

lola8345 · 23/01/2024 15:32

Yes, Palmers coconut daily body lotion. I know it's confusing, not sure why companies need 40 version, of almost the same 😁

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 23/01/2024 16:48

So you use body lotion on your face?

JenniferJupiterVenusandMars · 23/01/2024 17:22

LaCerbiatta · 22/01/2024 09:41

Second Nivea Q10. Really don't unserstand the nivea blue tin recommendations... it's so unpleasant to use, sits thick on the skin and imo much less moisturising than 'greasier' creams.

I can’t stand the smell of Nivea in the blue tin or Astral.
i use Nivea Q10, I have tried many others but Q10 is definitely the best.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 23/01/2024 17:23

I’ve just received my Q10 from Amazon. It seems a bit lightweight! Not overwhelmed tbh

fatbottomgirl67 · 23/01/2024 17:32

Just started using cerave dry to very dry. Huge tub for £12
It's really helped my extremely dry skin. No frangranced and absorbs really well

MuffinCoffee · 23/01/2024 17:37

+1 for cetaphil moisturizing cream in the tub. It's very rich and fragrance free.

SoapCollector · 23/01/2024 20:44

@porridgeisbae I've just used some almond oil after my shower and my skin feels a lot more comfortable - may be worth a try?

@Mrsgreen100 which coconut oil do you use for your face and body skin moisturising?

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 24/01/2024 22:00

Ok, I take back what l said about the Nivea Q10. It’s brilliant. Sort of really gets deep rather than sitting on the surface. First one I’ve had that does this!

LightOfAThousandStars · 24/01/2024 23:36

ELF Holy Hydration Sleeping Mask

MaloneMeadow · 25/01/2024 00:09

Avène Cicalfate - best moisturiser ever, super thick and definitely hardcore! I have very dry skin and it’s worked miracles for me. It’s like La Roche Posay Cicaplast but better

BlindurErBóklausMaður · 25/01/2024 06:01

Blue pot Nivea or Astral here too.

BlindurErBóklausMaður · 25/01/2024 06:05

JerkintheMerkin · 23/01/2024 09:22

I'll probably get flamed for this but I use pure lanolin in liquid form. Rub it together to warm/soften it a bit and the press it into my face. It's very comedogenic but I never break out because my skin is that dry so it drinks it up. Put it on before bed and in the morning my skin is luminous.

Don't know why you'd get flamed, the main moisturizing factor in lots and lots of creams is lanolin. (the Weleda Skin Food is lanolin based)

Badtard · 25/01/2024 10:38

I'm seeing lots of women using tallow on Instagram. Obviously not for vegans or vegetarians. I'm a Nivea girl, but the soft not the blue tin.

What is tret?

porridgeisbae · 25/01/2024 11:58

What is tret?

@Badtard Tretinoin. The NHS prescribe it for acne, but it's also supposed to help with fine lines, so some women get it privately for that.

When my skin is dry I use Nivea night cream and a facial oil

Devon06 · 25/01/2024 12:07

I love weleda skin food. It's amazing and I have seriously dry skin
