hardcore moisturising night cream -low cost recommendations?

hi troops, I have a skin regime for in the day (spf moisturiser on most of face, tretinoin on forehead/sides of eyes) but now/at the moment my skin seems to feel dry by the evening.

As the tretinoin is already expensive for me, I don't want to spend a massive amount. I've tried vaseline as I had some lying around, or lotion mixed with olive oil etc, but think I might get something as a night cream. What would you recommend?

Blue nivea will sort you right out. Cheap as chips.

porridgeisbae · 21/01/2024 21:53

Sound. Is it hardcore enough? How about Astral :)

I like Nivea Q10 night cream.

Are you drinking enough water?

Zippedydoodahday · 21/01/2024 21:57

La Roche-Posay Cicoplast Balm is great with tret. Boots often have it on offer and a big tube lasts me months.

I always drink a lot of fluids as I get thirsty. I think the skin change is the start of The Change. My hair got a bit thinner, too. No other symptoms yet tho.

Tret should only be used at night as uv light “deactivates” (that’s the best word I can think of) it. If I’ve misunderstood, sorry.

I use a Lidl Q10 night crean which costs £1.49 plus Squalane on top.

Ooh, I hadn't realised that. I could have it at night on my forehead with some other gunge on the rest of my face then, and SPF all over in the daytime.

Aldi own brand.

43ontherocksporfavor · 21/01/2024 22:16

Whatever is in Aldi. Sometimes their Caviar cream and sometimes just Lacura.

lunepremiere79 · 21/01/2024 22:17

Any oil I like avocado or olive and the followed by vaseline to seal. Should do the trick. Nivea would do as well

Lovepeaceunderstanding · 21/01/2024 22:20

I have had severe (has had me hospitalised) eczema all my life. Altruist skin cream has changed my life (Amazon) and very cheap.

Yuckyyuckyuckity · 21/01/2024 22:20

Aldi Lacura night cream in the blue tub. So cheap, slather it on. It's similar to the blue nivea but I prefer the consistency. Blue nivea is so thick and heavy I can barely spread it on my face.

Flobbyblob · 21/01/2024 22:20

Nivea blue! The old fashioned stuff. I use it everywhere, face body feet hands. £4 for a massive pot and it’s just greasy and great for dry skin.

bryceQ · 21/01/2024 22:27

Layer of vaseline over your moisturiser at night. You don't need branded vaseline you can get a big pot from amazon for super cheap

IfOnlyOurEyesSawSouls · 21/01/2024 22:38

Nivea Q10

Lacura made my skin ill 😞

WhereAreWeNow · 21/01/2024 22:43

La Roche Posay Cicaplast or Avene do a similar one. They're really heavy duty and non irritating so perfect for if you're using things like tret.

dudsville · 21/01/2024 22:45

I will pay a fair bit for face products, but for a face lotion for my dry skin nivea blue tub, as mentioned above is great and i always fine back to it. I put it on when my hands and face are still damp from whatever serums i want to use and it liquifies it so it's easier to apply. I did this several hours ago and it's still just dewy. Will soak in by morning but my skin won't be dry or tight by then, just comfortable.

TeaMistress · 21/01/2024 23:15

The Hada Labo night cream in the dark blue jar. Really lovely stuff and really helps my dry skin feel plumped and hydrated. I put this on then a few drops of facial oil on top to seal it in. You can get it in superdrug.

TheFormidableMrsC · 21/01/2024 23:31

Blue pot Nivea.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 21/01/2024 23:36

Light blue Aveeno. Works a dream.

Oakiedoakie · 21/01/2024 23:44

I like Nivea or Astral, with Vaseline on top on the driest bits.

Anxhor · 22/01/2024 00:27

I use tret (Retirides) not every night and I don't have any wrinkles in my early 50's

I only use it twice a week. It's strong and effective.

In between that I use serum (No 7 Future renew) then oil if skin is feeling dry followed by moisturiser

My current newest night moisturiser which I like because it's very moisturising is the Revolution Miracle Cream. It's full of nice skin care ingredients which i like.

I also have the Hada Labo Tokyo night cream from Superdrug as PP mentioned.

My skin was feeling drier and it works well for me

For any very persistent dry skin areas I do apply Vaseline from the pot. It's great stuff. It's so cheap not sure you need a dupe of Vaseline. I like their sized pots they're very handy. Their lip balm is a different consistency so don't use that.

Sadly due to my temperamental skin I can't use Nivea blue pot because it gives me spots and rashes. My DM used it for years and Nivea soft. She uses it to remove makeup to.

She's very gung-ho with her very lovely skin. But hers wasn't sensitive or temperamental like mine.

43ontherocksporfavor · 22/01/2024 06:51

@Anxhor no lines at all in early 50s???

ReadyForSeason · 22/01/2024 07:34

Cetaphil rich night cream, I use it with tret, no fragrance, no irritants.
OMG, it’s like a soothing veil over your face. I use it under SPF in day time, it’s not too rich for my dry skin.

Noicant · 22/01/2024 08:00

Eucerin roughness relief, it has urea and glycolic acid so it gently exfoliates your skin but keeps it moisturised as well.
