All my necklaces go green eventually!

I have a Tiffany bead bracelet in silver that I never take off and have worn for 3 years with no tarnishing.
I have worn a white gold diamond solitaire pendant and chain for nearly 6 years and that hadn't changed at all.
My diamond platinum birthday present ring to myself only comes off at the weekend if I am gardening or doing diy.

is this one you have? It's so lovely :) https://www.tiffany.co.uk/jewelry/bracelets/return-to-tiffany-heart-tag-bead-bracelet-GRP02587/return-to-tiffany-heart-tag-bead-bracelet-24711781/?gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQiA-62tBhDSARIsAO7twbYUsHy6nYTe7uO-XyBMp5BBo-rqZv1hIkSQwsP7arJzsiC5IvWPVZoaAj38EALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

@Alohapotato yes that's the one. I did think it would discolour but it the same as the day I got it.

I have few silver tiffany things and they did not discolour when I was using them, they just got " dark" when I had them in a jewellery box for few years.
I'm tempted to buy that bracelet. :-)

Isabelle70 · 20/01/2024 17:30

@Alohapotato go for it! :) You have reminded me of the other bracelet I have been stalking on and off for the last 18 months... and I think it's gone up about £100 since I first saw it!

I wanted to find a cheap dupe to see if it's what I really want but I haven't been able to find one. Maybe it's a sign to just buy the bracelet!

I’m getting scraggy in my old age and my wedding, engagement and baby rings fly off if I shake my hands about. Also my watch which used to be snug now has room for three fingers inside the metal strap.
They’re all too important to me to risk losing so they live in a silver bottle coaster in the kitchen, where I’ve always kept them when baking etc.

I’m thinking of getting a forever necklace to keep my rings on, like I did when I was pregnant. Then it was a knotted leather string!
Following.

A silver heart shaped ring my dad gave mum on their 25th wedding anniversary. They both died in 2020 2 years short of their 60th anniversary. I put it on the day of dad's funeral (mum's was a few months earlier), and haven't taken it off since.

Blueberry911 · 21/01/2024 09:01

Shocked at the few saying their Tiffany silver necklaces went green! I wear mine every day and it's still perfect, whereas other "silver" necklaces have gone funny on me.

Zephyry · 21/01/2024 09:03

Lines and current has the sort of low key wear all the time vibe. However if it's gold plated you wouldn't leave it on to shower etc. so in that case solid gold and I don't have any suggestions for that!

Majesticalling · 21/01/2024 09:52

I have a Dower & Hall stirling silver locket. It's quite chunky and robust enough that I can (and do) wear it for months at a time. It was given to me 15 years ago, has survived two sets of small grabby hands and it still looks good as new.

Happyher · 21/01/2024 10:23

I have a silver ‘return to Tiffany’ heart pendant which I never take off. I bathe shower and swim in it and it never tarnishes

TeabySea · 21/01/2024 10:24

I wear silver earrings all the time. Possibly because they get handled a bit, they haven't tarnished. The jewellery I take on and off tends to be a bit more dull.

A friend bought me this with a gold chain from there too for my 50th (it's a far nicer gold than it looks on here- less yellowy) . It never comes off me and I get so many people asking where it's from. Plus it's a goddess pendent!

NeverDropYourMooncup · 21/01/2024 10:43

A crystal heart necklace from DP and a gold chain - they occasionally get taken off and cleaned, but it's once in a blue moon, no greenery involved, presumably because I shower and make sure soap goes over them as well as underneath.

The gold chain was from Amazon and I suspect the one from DP was from there or eBay, although I've never asked.

M5ybelle · 21/01/2024 10:45

Never took off my wedding ring, a diamond ring and a gold bracelet.
Note the word ‘took’. All have fallen unnoticed off my hand at different times due to weight loss. I’m living in hope that they are having happy adventures as they make their way back to me.

surfergrl · 21/01/2024 12:00

I make jewellery, mostly in 925 silver paired with seaglass. I always wear a ring which I made myself, with the co-ordinates of my favourite beach on it. I am in the sea a lot, work in a pub kitchen, sleep in my jewellery, no probs.

Silver will tarnish if you're not wearing it, but a jewellery cloth will do for most cleaning. Silver tarnish strips in your jewellery box will help (search eBay for Town Talk strips).

I once had a customer come back to the gallery after a week and the chain she bought was absolutely black. I swapped it for a new one, but it probably would have done the same. As others have said, the pH of your skin can react with the metal and there's little you can do about it but try another metal or purity. Sometimes it's an indication that it's not what it was sold as; it's worth paying more.

Don't even bother with Tibetan silver, it's mostly cheap metals like lead.

For those who lose rings @Sgtmajormummy @M5ybelle you can buy these ring clips:
https://www.cooksongold.com/Findings/9ct-Yellow-Gold-Ring-Clip-Size-2,-2-X-4.5mm-prcode-NBS-R02
But you might not want to trust them for all-the-time wear.

I also have a silver cuff from my favourite jeweller in Morocco who does lovely filigree work and I visit him every couple of years for lovely bits you can't buy here. I'm obsessed 😊

9ct Yellow Gold Ring Clip Size 2, 2 X 4.5mm

The mm size shown is the width of the body X the width of the claw. The ring clip does not have to match the width of the shank as lo.. - Product Code : NBS R02 , Price : 4.28 GBP

Missoma and Astley Clarke

Bbq1 · 22/01/2024 00:20

Gold, sparkly ring dh bought me when we were dating, gold lattice ring which was mil's and a silver ring with gemstone purchased on behalf of my ds when ge was very young.

sausagedogpookie · 22/01/2024 02:00

I have had some halo huggie hoops and an icon aura necklace for a few years,(all are solid 14k gold and from Astley Clarke) and I never take them off, except to clean them maybe once a month.
I wear them to bed,in the shower,in the sea and the pool, whilst sunbathing on holiday and when applying perfume and moisturisers and they are like new - no tarnishing, nothing.

Ladyj84 · 22/01/2024 02:28

White gold necklace, I inherited one off my grandma when I was 13 and never took it off. When I was 25 the catch broke and with it some of it's tiny links dropped and got lost. I was gutted. The jewellers couldn't do anything as the links etc were so thin from age so I put what was left in my jewellery box. When I was 30 i met and married my now hubby and his wedding present to me was what was left of my grans necklace melted into a new white gold necklace made slightly thicker. It has never left my neck almost 10 years and never will.

cazcaz2 · 22/01/2024 04:29

A crucifix and chain in pure silver with a st.Christopher attached which my eldest son & his family gave me years ago.And a silver ring which was my late mums. Also a white gold & diamond ring and a gold & onyx ring and i only take them off if i have to have an xray, scan or op.They never discolour.

WavingCatsandDogs · 22/01/2024 04:49

I have titanium hoops in my ears and a stainless steel bracelet.

Namechangedididittoo · 22/01/2024 08:16

9ct yellow gold hoop earrings x3 starting small up to large never removed apart from cleaning
9ct yellow gold (two with diamonds)bangles only removed for cleaning
as above rings
I have a cartilage piercing that wouldn’t heal with gold earring so bought a earring from ‘solace’ in titanium which is only removed for cleaning
none of these have tarnished

My Tiffany necklace went green. 😣

did you clean it with silver cleaner ever?

EmeraldA129 · 22/01/2024 08:18

A gold necklace from Tiffanies with a wee green emerald on it. Worn it pretty much every day since I bought it 9 years ago in NY.

graciemcadams · 22/01/2024 14:09

@EmeraldA129 not exactly. I tried with baking soda and water and left it to soak overnight. I read to do that online. It made no difference at all
