What colours go with mud?

I have a beautifully warm woollen overcoat, that I’m wearing a lot in this weather. The only drawback is its muddy paleish brown colour.

Can anyone suggest ways to lift its dreary look? A brightly coloured scarf, perhaps, but what colour would look good with muddy brown? Maybe a big brooch, but what colour or style?

I'd probably go with neutrals like navy and grey, or slightly different shades of mud 😂 for tonal dressing?

Duck egg blue goes well with mud or teal if you fancy something a bit more dramatic.

Thanks for all these ideas. I have paleish skin and grey hair, so could do with a dash of bright colour!

Most of these are colours I haven’t worn much. A very useful nudge out of my colour rut. I like the idea of ‘shades of mud’ though it might take a more elegant wearer to carry it off!

Wow! Lots of exciting ideas. I have a fuchsia pink scarf so will try that first. Then search through my scarf collection, then hit the charity shops.

I think my wool coat might be a mud colour brown.. I've been wearing a powder blue scarf and think it adds a nice pop of colour. I've also been wearing a black scarf with black boots / black bag - I wouldn't normally think brown / black goes but I've been trying it and quite like it.

Lilac might go too? Agree with pink, red & green suggestions too..

You should choose colours in your colour palette based on your season. If you randomly pick colours suggested by people here it could look great or it could look terrible!
