What colours go with mud?

I have a beautifully warm woollen overcoat, that I’m wearing a lot in this weather. The only drawback is its muddy paleish brown colour.

Can anyone suggest ways to lift its dreary look? A brightly coloured scarf, perhaps, but what colour would look good with muddy brown? Maybe a big brooch, but what colour or style?

Thanks for any ideas!

I am a big fan of mud, sludge, slime and murk and have worn them for years. I find that shades of pink, lighter versions of whichever mud etc. colour or pale orange/salmon/gold work with them. It depends on your colour palette and colouring.

You need to try something like a scarf in a colour you like between your face and the coat and see if it works for you.

A bright colour with cool undertones would work with mud. Personally I'd go for purple, but try different bright colours next to your skin to make sure it doesn't make you look ill!

I wear a lot of brown and muddy, earthy shades and would say rust or a warm marine blue - as an Autumn I only wear warm colours.

I opened this thread thinking you were going to be a horse owner!

😂

In my dreams! (And as they’re dreams, someone else would get muddy doing all the work!)

You should choose colours in your colour palette based on your season. If you randomly pick colours suggested by people here it could look great or it could look terrible!

Gosh, I’d forgotten about colour analysis. I had my colours done decades ago, but I’ve forgotten what my Season was. Also, I think skin colour may fade, as hair does, over the years.

Might try getting my colours again.

Meanwhile I’ll hit the shops and try scarves in any of these gorgeous colours I can find, and see which ones work for me.

Thanks everyone for giving me a fun project for a dull January!
