Good quality plus size swimwear

MoriaRoseForever · 10/01/2024 16:59

Hi

I'm looking for flattering swimwear that will withstand actual swimming .
some I’ve seen seem to be more fashion for lying on the beach.

budget up to about £70.

Am a size 20. Quite like a Tankini top and swim shorts .

Ive seen loose shorts but not sure they are suitable for swimming.

Anyone tried seafancy ?

I think you'd have to order them online but I have always got on well with Slazenger swimsuits - you can often get them cheaply from SportsDirect, but the in store sizing can be more limited.

I looked at seafancy but the reviews were mixed at best - check them out on trustpilot.

The gist I got last year was that if the thing you bought fitted it was pretty good, but that returns were nigh on impossible and you had to pay foreign shipping fees. So you could only punt on things you were sure would fit or you wouldn't need to return. That wasn't something I was prepared to risk so I didn't buy.

Ah good to know, I’ll give them a miss l

I swim a lot and and I am a size 16/18 36f with a. Long body too.

I do 3-5k per week and have no end of issues with costumes

My life changed when I bought the Speedo Enlace two weeks ago. It's apparently sha

It's comfy and flattering. Adjustable straps, double layer bra shelf, high ish neck so no gaping cleavage.

I got an 18 because I usually size up. 18 is a 40 and it goes up to 42.

what I’m really after is a loose tankini and shorts . I would feel more comfortable in that as don’t want tight round tummy and want the tops of legs covered .

Have tried swim dresses but they are very heavy , material wise, when washing and drying . A two piece also feel easier.

MoriaRoseForever · 12/01/2024 09:23

Enlace looks good but I’d feel too self conscious as Will show all my lumps and bumps

Lands End and Cotton Traders have lots of stuff like this, I’m not sure what size they go up to though.

I think I misunderstood sorry

You want swimwear for a holiday that will stay out when swimming as well as sun bathing

Matalan have good holiday swimwear.

Their plain black costume is really good and about £18 and they also do a tankini in the same version.

Im not sure about the skirt: think they draw attention rather than conceal!!

Sorry, don’t mean to confuse.

i swim twice a week . So want something for swimming, not fashion type beachwear .

im a size 20. I like the idea of shorts and a tankini ( loose). Not too worried about cleavage showing as that’s my best bits !

thanks

In the kindest way, if you need a costume for swimming in twice a week the thing to prioritise is whether it’s comfortable to swim in. And a costume will likely be much more comfortable than a loose tankini and shorts which will create drag.

Most of your time is spent in the pool, and when you’re out of the pool I honestly don’t think anybody else will care what you look like.

I’m a size 20 with ugly varicose veins I dress to disguise in real life, but at the pool I wear a decent sport-style costume because I want to plough through my lengths in the most comfort possible. I literally couldn’t care less what anyone thinks of my body - because I am at the pool to move it and build my strength and fitness.

Costumes I like: Batoko (good patterns, classic style); Adidas (racing back, good support, size up); Arena (sports back costumes that are great to swim in but not always very supportive).

I do 3-5km a week in these on rotation and they hold up well and don’t chafe.

You do t want loose short for swimming - everything will be a bit er... flappy.

There is nothing worse than getting an eyeful as you take a stroke .

Ticker in and well fitting is the order of the day.

Depends how much you are doing a skirted swim suit is fine for a few lengths a few times a week. Anything more than 10 length you'd be better with a leg suit (previously boy leg)that has a shorts leg rather than a classic leg

Look for a bust shelf and an adjustable strap, leg suit . .speedo clearance is where to look for these

Matalan for swim dresses and they have skirted bikini bottoms this year too.

I’ve looked at the ones with short legs . But they are very fitted and I feel so self conscious .

also don’t men wear trunks to swim ? How is that different ? And I’ve seen some shorts that are not as flappy as trunks but have an inner brief so no flashing !

I get you now.

This is the only thing I can find

I think your options will be limited so

Search for blouson tankini, modest swimwear or board shorts

Check these out - I have several as I swim 3 x a week and am a heavy size 20. These got me back in the pool after 5 years not liking any swimwear from anywhere else

cherrypickles · 14/01/2024 18:36

@Sybila they look ideal!

melissasummerfield · 14/01/2024 18:48

Hi ,

i swim a lot and am a similar size, i stopped wearing swim dresses few years ago as they look stupid when you get out of water!

i swear by magisculpt swimsuits - they hold you in a bit and also come in a longer length in some of the styles. They are pricey but you can get them in the sales on places like simplybe.

helpfulperson · 14/01/2024 19:07

I've just bought tankini bits from Lands End. They have a sale on. I'm a size 22. the only thing I would advice is to read the descriptions as the top I bought has underwires in it which I wouldn't have chosen but couldn't be bothered returning. It is fine but I will probably buy another one without as well.
