If you don't love it, return it. You'll always end up wearing something else instead and it will just sit there in your wardrobe, waiting for a moment that never comes.

This. AS PP said, if in doubt, get rid.

IDontHateRainbows · 09/01/2024 10:52

Who cares if it's dated or not... if you love it, you will wear it with confidence and style it out.
If not you will always be doubting it.
Sounds like you are in the latter camp OP do I'd send it back.

tomatoontoast · 09/01/2024 10:55

Return!

coloursquare · 09/01/2024 11:01

Interesting. I have a lot of dresses in this style and in recent months they've felt dated.

Laughin · 09/01/2024 19:26

Definitely keep the belt (I have sadly 'outgrown' mine)

Thecatmaster · 09/01/2024 22:25

I think that it's lovely. I really wouldn't worry about whether it is too dated or not, whatever that means. Fashion is so fickle and largely determined by a handful of men a d a few fashion editors who invent rehashed trends in order to keep people buying.

Always buy what flatters your figure, something that you love, something that can be a bit flexible, well made and classic. If it looks good on you and you feel good in it, you will carry it off.

I don't think "dated" is the right word for what doesn't work for that dress.

There's a whole heap of brands which do that style of (Amish, hippy dippy, Bloomsbury set, over sized tent) dress for customers who like that style of dress. (me for example) And do it very well.

Phase Eight doesn't do that style of dress. They've tried and they've made a neat , toned down Phase Eight version of it and it doesn't work, either as a Phase Eight dress or a mad Amish dress.

no

Darc123 · 10/01/2024 01:02

are any mums on here runners? I’m struggling not being able to go to the gym and exercise as I have no child care in the week and really miss going for a run. I tried to run with my silver cross pram but it just kept buckling. What affordable and good ones have people used and recommend? Thanks in advance!!

probably best to make your own thread. top right of the page by the thread title there ought to be a button that says 'start new thread'. :)

kiwiaddict · 10/01/2024 02:02

It's too mono colour for that amount of material

Amybelle88 · 10/01/2024 02:28

Send back. It's very gaudy.

Ramalangadingdong · 10/01/2024 06:55

I love it. You can keep a dress like that forever.

Alwaysanotherwine · 10/01/2024 08:10

return

it’s very frumpy

Alwaysanotherwine · 10/01/2024 08:10

it’s not the fit, some baggy dresses are very on trend

it’s just very old fashioned and mumsy

ChampagneBlossom44 · 10/01/2024 09:14

I really like it. But I think it WILL date fairly quickly, the colour is amazing but there’s a lot of volume. If it’s a shirt dress you’re after, dancing leopard do some beautiful ones, they’re similar with the belt but a lot less fussy. I’ve worn mine dressed up and down & everything in the middle, really versatile

Lucky2shoes · 10/01/2024 12:06

I don't like it sorry

Viviennemary · 10/01/2024 13:01

If you like it then keep it. If not send it back. I think on the right person it looks fine. I dont think it matters about whether its going to look dated in the future. If it's flattering and you feel good in it then keep it.

What does "mumsy" look like?

KirstenBlest · 10/01/2024 13:59

What does "mumsy" look like?
Dowdy. I think of someone who's sort of lost interest in looking stylish and maybe put on a few extra pounds who's pulled out a dress from the wardrobe and worn it because it's one that still does up.

I think of my cousin. All she wanted from life was to get married and have children. By the time she was 30 she looked more like my DM's sister than niece.

youdrivemeupthewall · 10/01/2024 15:31

Top part is fine/classic but the skirt tiers may date...if they're not dated already. I like the colour but depends on your colouring and your pics have gone. I think you've decided to return anyway!

Why "mumsy"? It's a bit odd that that's being used as a pejorative description.

KirstenBlest · 10/01/2024 20:06

It's not odd. It describes a certain sort of look.
There should be a "dadsy" to go with it. Man put on weight when there's a baby on the way and doesn't lose it, starts wearing clothes that are comfortable/still fit etc

cerisepanther73 · 10/01/2024 21:22

Bloody hell what an ordeal, !

Maybe too,
