Obsessed as I am obsessed with this top.
Cute to describe nearly everything.

OP posts:
Nitgel · 02/01/2024 22:09

Vegan leather, and today I read about buttery soft vegan leather.

Saggypants · 02/01/2024 22:09

Oh and 'co-ord set' for what used to be boring ol' matching top and bottom.

clowniform · 02/01/2024 22:16

Can't believe no-one's mentioned 'aesthetic' as an adjective. 😡

Also hate 'timeless', 'flattering', 'forever item'.

XpelairHamPortal · 02/01/2024 22:25

AllAroundMyCat · 02/01/2024 18:49

Oh god... what does that word actually mean?

'Luxury' is fine.
'Lux' is tolerable but why the 'e' on the end?
Just why?

Yes this!!! How are you supposed to say it? If it's "lux" then don't put the bloody 'e' on the end. Or does the 'e' make the 'u' into an 'oo' sound (like everyone is taught at school - magic e or split diagraphs depending on your age). I really hate that word.

(I feel better for getting that off my chest)

Crucible · 02/01/2024 22:26

Lux is a bar of bloody soap (old gimmer).

AllAroundMyCat · 02/01/2024 22:30

🤣

zipwires · 02/01/2024 22:31

I find 'well-cut' annoying. Pair the shirt with well-cut trousers....

Like anyone would choose badly-cut.

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 02/01/2024 22:31

"A smokey eye"

Anything "simple" as in "just add a simple ...."

All that getting your colours done stuff and the descriptions that go with it.

"Funky" only see it on here - what on earth does it mean?

Oh and "flattering"

LaMarschallin · 02/01/2024 22:41

DuchessPotato · 02/01/2024 19:09

On trend.

And tabloid fashion speak - shows a bit of side boob / puts on a leggy display… arghhhhhh

Tabloid fashion speak is the worst.
"Flaunted her curves"
"Wore her brunette locks in long waves"

All so they can "step out" at the SoapAddict's Journal awards or similar.

I also side eye fashion editors who insist they've always worn whatever random fashion that's just come in: "For years people have mocked me because of my love for chain mail dungarees, but at last these fabulously comfortable and flattering items have come into their own..."

Isometimeswonder · 02/01/2024 22:43

Colourway.
Eg It comes in 3 colourways.
Why not just 3 colours?!!

ADessertOrAMeringue · 02/01/2024 22:56

This is not a phrase but I'm tired of seeing all of the fashion Instagrammers posting videos of themselves getting dressed. I just want to see the outfit, I don't want to see you in your undies and pulling on your clothes!

Cincinnatus · 02/01/2024 22:58

A red lip
A trainer

Cringe.

OhGetFucked · 02/01/2024 23:04

Sourced. Curated.

No, you didn't source or curate your fecking jeans, you bought them.

OhGetFucked · 02/01/2024 23:06

Isometimeswonder · 02/01/2024 22:43

Colourway.
Eg It comes in 3 colourways.
Why not just 3 colours?!!

Oh Jesus colourway.

Horrific.

It's like saying price point. So, the price, then.

Imnotadentist · 02/01/2024 23:12

‘Investment Piece’
Its clothes. They’ll wear out. They go down in value.

friskybivalves · 02/01/2024 23:15

'Witty' to describe clothes - when it's just a pair of bloody bell- bottom jeans or a jumper with a stupid parakeet on.

Cantonet · 02/01/2024 23:27

Instagrammers - saying this is how they style a new outfit.... Well yes.... You've just put it on your rather boney body.... with some shoes on your feet. In what planet is that styling anything?
Is ' styling' the emperor's new clothes?

Gowlett · 02/01/2024 23:33

Hero sweater
Hero skirt
Hero piece

DiamandaTheGreat · 02/01/2024 23:42

Using "do" when you actually mean "wear".

E.g. I'm going to do a denim skirt with boots...I think I'll do a heeled sandal with a red lip...I'm going to do 90s grunge aesthetic today arrrrghhhhhh I would much rather you didn't, thanks.

Not surprised to see so many mentions of the Fashion Singular here, either 😂

Another very niche one for me is the bastard Toast catalogue being unbearably blasé about things - "crisp, fresh button-down shirt to be worn open or closed, as you will"...if a catalogue could fucking shrug, it would do.

Tessisme · 02/01/2024 23:43

Agree with vegan leather as mentioned by pp. It's PVC. Plastic. Vegan leather is an oxymoron.

moonshinepoursthroughmywindow · 02/01/2024 23:46

Colourway.
Eg It comes in 3 colourways.
Why not just 3 colours?!!

I've always assumed that a colourway involved more than one colour, so the three colourways could be something like black with red trim, blue with green trim and grey with white trim. I could be wrong though.

Colourway is a word that should only be featured on QVC when presenting a polyester Celeb Colab multiway tunic.

ScreenPrinting · 03/01/2024 00:00

Wholehearted agreement with the pp who said ‘on point’. This is now EVERYWHERE and I don’t understand what it means! I mean, I do technically understand it, obvs, it’s used to mean something is just so, immaculate, perfect, etc. But I don’t understand how the two words ‘on point’ actually express that… It’s the verbal equivalent of nails down a blackboard for me.

Unsurprisingly I’m another one who can’t bear what a brilliant pp has termed the Fashion Singular!! And whoever it was who pointed out a ‘slick of red lipstick’ is also spot on (or maybe on point? 🫣)

I also can’t bear anything that is described as ‘taking you from desk to dinner’ or ‘from work meetings to cocktails with friends’… I feel like it describes a life lived by literally NOBODY I KNOW. Again, I know what it’s getting at (you can wear the nice dress/trousers/top to be smart at work or look nice to go out in) but the twee faux-SATC glossiness of the world encapsulated in that phrase just makes me angry and sad at the same time, if that makes any sense?

I think The Dead Vegans would be a brilliant band name!
