Obsessed as I am obsessed with this top.
Cute to describe nearly everything.

“A nod to”

Andnowshesatoddler · 03/01/2024 18:46

Oh yes Kate can never just wear Blue it's a nod today Diana.
I wore lilac today - a nod to my grandma obvs.

MerryChristmasToYou · 03/01/2024 19:01

Kate wears a red/blue/polka dot dress and she's channelling her late MIL who in 1980-something wore a red/blue/polka dot dress.

TheMildManneredMilitant · 03/01/2024 19:36

Insta/tik-tok trends with the word 'girl' in them. #CleanGirl #ThatGirl #GirlDinner etc etc.

If its Kate, then its often called 'a sweet nod' in the papers too.

MyDogHumpsThings · 03/01/2024 19:55

“Lashes”. It’s eyelashes.

SleepPrettyDarling · 03/01/2024 19:58

Singulars for plurals, as mentioned above.

”a bracelet sleeve … a nude lip … a natural brow’

Also cutesy terms like lippy. “Fluffy” eyebrows.

Statement anything.

Mushroo · 03/01/2024 19:58

‘Vegan leather’. It’s just cheap plastic!

TitaniasAss · 03/01/2024 20:02

I remember trying on shoes years ago and the woman in the shop said that they 'would look great with a nude tight'. I nearly died on the spot and couldn't bring myself to buy the shoes (which I really liked!). It scarred me forever ...

GettingStuffed · 03/01/2024 20:06

I thought it was en pointe. I could be wrong though.

Itsabeautifuldaytosavelives123 · 03/01/2024 20:09

I'm going to 'team' this with
'teamed with a red trouser'
on point
piece

happyinherts · 03/01/2024 20:14

@TitaniasAss I don't think I'd have contained myself ! I'd ask her - a nude, tight what??

TwilightSkies · 03/01/2024 20:17

and the woman in the shop said that they 'would look great with a nude tight'.

😂😂😂 I needed a good laugh today! Thanks!

LaMarschallin · 03/01/2024 20:35

-core eg as in "normcore".
Or "grandpacore" as mentioned in The Times today.

I couldn't, I was speechless! I couldn't wait to get out of there after that. 😂

RobertaFirmino · 03/01/2024 22:41

'Kicks'. They are trainers FFS. Or in my neck of the woods, trainies or trabs (which I'm sure many of you will find equally annoying!).
The 'curated ear'.
'Lippy' and 'sunnies'.
Referring to a garment as 'she' or 'her'.
'Vintage' when it clearly isn't.

@GettingStuffed I'm pretty sure 'En Pointe' is a ballet term. Happy to be corrected.

MerryChristmasToYou · 03/01/2024 22:51

Heals
Peddle pushers
Sandles
Make-up palates/pallets

Mumsanetta · 03/01/2024 22:55

Confession - I say “a red lip” a lot. I’m feeling personally attacked 😂

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 03/01/2024 23:06

Vintage' when it clearly isn't.
^^
As well as the curious ability sellers on Vinted have to make everything look like an unattractive, crumpled mess, I really, really, really hate the name for that reason.

VanillaImpulse · 03/01/2024 23:58

Don't walk, run! (To something for sale)

MsJuniper · 04/01/2024 00:20

The fashion singular has been a thing for a long, long time. Ditto pop of colour. I remember reading them in fashion magazines c.1995.

"A thing" has not been a thing for as long though.

MonsteraMama · 04/01/2024 00:31

XpelairHamPortal · 02/01/2024 22:25

Yes this!!! How are you supposed to say it? If it's "lux" then don't put the bloody 'e' on the end. Or does the 'e' make the 'u' into an 'oo' sound (like everyone is taught at school - magic e or split diagraphs depending on your age). I really hate that word.

(I feel better for getting that off my chest)

...sorry to bust the luxe haters collective bubbles, but it's French, not an abbreviation of anything.

Which is quite pretentious in it's way if you're not actually French, but the fashion industry isn't known for not being pretentious. And they do so love throwing random French words at things.

But it's not as if it's a made up word or the word Lux (which is actually a real word that means something different) has had an "e" put on for funsies. It's just not English.

SirChenjins · 04/01/2024 08:38

A quick google of luxe tells me Asda does an own brand of French style lager called Biere de Luxe Grin

MerryChristmasToYou · 04/01/2024 09:56

I thought lux was a unit of measurement and that luxe was french for luxury.
If a fashion item is 'luxe' am I meant to affect my best faux french accent and say lewx? oh la la!

You’d also have to start saying ‘Total look’ and ‘canon’ in every sentence. French fashion commentators have to include these expressions in every post.
