M&S sale am I missing something?

M&S are advertising their sale. I have the app and am browsing for example, Goodmove range. Click on anything reduced, but then it’s all out of stock in the colours that are reduced by 50% and all colours available are full price. I can’t find anything actually reduced! If out of stock why are they even advertising the reduction? Such a waste of time unless I’m doing something wrong?

I went into the store and there was very little and no home wear on sale.

JustExistingNotLiving · 01/01/2024 14:31

Yep, I noticed the same thing.

I couldn’t decide if they had sold everything out within a few hours if the start if the sale or if they were taking the mick.

ExcitingRicotta · 01/01/2024 14:32

M&S website is so bad for filtering and showing things that are actually in stock. Sometimes it lets you add stuff to basket and only tells you it’s out of stock when you try to pay.

itsnothingoriginal · 01/01/2024 15:00

M&S sale is awful... barely anything reduced either in store or online. It seemed mostly their Christmas stock on offer so they mustn't need to sell anything off this season!

pippapipps · 01/01/2024 15:05

Totally agree and don't even get me started on Next 😡😡

Tessisme · 01/01/2024 15:09

M&S have always done this on their website. I don't even bother looking anymore because it's so annoying and disappointing. I try to get into the store and at least I know what I'm seeing with my eyes is available. I managed to get a couple of bargains - a pair of leather boots and leather trainers, not much more than £20 each.

FlySwimmer · 01/01/2024 15:10

I’ve often found this with M&S sales. I think part of it is the filter on their website is crap, so even when you try to filter for size/style/reduction/in stock, it still insists on including out of stock items, it’s misleading. Plus listing a range of prices on items with multiple colours, meaning you have to click in only to find that inevitably the reduced colourways are out of stock…

MidnightMeltdown · 01/01/2024 15:10

I think you're too late. It started about a week ago and anything decent sells out fast.

lindyloo57 · 01/01/2024 15:13

I agree, everything i would like was out of stock as soon as the sale started online, I had better luck with john lewis and next sale

Superduper02 · 01/01/2024 15:23

The 'sales' are a lie.

Thistooshallpass. · 01/01/2024 15:28

I went into a big M and S on the 28th .. didn't seem like a single thing in my size in the sale . Liked a couple of full price items .. but out of stock in my size too . Didn't seem to be any beauty or Xmas stuff in sale Left empty handed .

Poblano · 01/01/2024 15:29

The M&S website is really bad for still showing out of stock items.

As PP have said though the sale started before Christmas so they've probably just sold out of a lot of things. I had several bargains both online when it started and in store last week, including two pairs of tailored trousers, a blazer, a blouse, a dress and a pair of jeans. I was disappointed by the lack of Beauty offers though.

chalkyc2 · 01/01/2024 15:30

Even last week there were barely any sizes though in anything.

Also they don't always reduce their brands to match the brand own sale - always best to check!

WhatdoIdoTree · 01/01/2024 15:32

I don’t think a lot has been ordered in this year, my aunty works in retail and because of COL she said her store didn’t order a lot of stock. In turn there is little excess for the sales. I think it’s getting harder and harder to buy things cheap.

GCAcademic · 01/01/2024 15:34

I’ve found that there have been massive issues with stock in certain sizes for a long time now (both in store and online). I’ve given up on them.

dontgobaconmyheart · 01/01/2024 15:36

I do think it started some time ago so am not surprised things are out of stock but yes, I don't think I've ever bought anything in the M&S sale or been remotely tempted.

I had covid over christmas and so for probably the first time ever spent some time browsing the sales on christmas and boxing day on various sites and most things were in stock, when I checked again on say the 27th with a couple of things I'd been vaguely considering there seemed to be very little left and very limited sizing or options in what was left. Clearly you have to strike very early these days.

covetingthepreciousthings · 01/01/2024 15:45

I went into store on the 27th and there was quite a lot of stock across fashion / home in the sale, I can only presume a lot of it is sold out by now. I popped in again yesterday and a lot of the home wear was wiped out.

i also went in after Christmas i had vouchers i got nothing, was dissapointed.

Mumsnut · 01/01/2024 15:48

I’m assuming g they will now have a second round of reductions, all the party stuff, etc

Poblano · 01/01/2024 15:52

It's also likely that there will be lots of returns, I know I ordered different sizes and styles for choice and won't keep everything. It's worth setting up the stock notifications if there's something specific you've got your eye on.

Superduper02 · 01/01/2024 15:23

The 'sales' are a lie.

Yes, M&S seem to have form for this type of thing. Out of stock online, two minutes after the sale begins, and then the helpful suggestions as to what you can buy that is similar, but of course happens to be full price. Their tactics stink, but no doubt work on some people.

Knackeredhamster · 01/01/2024 15:58

Absolutely nothing in store decent or reduced.
I shuddered at all the lurid summer shite on the racks as I passed next.

I miss going into Debenhams.

CopperLion · 01/01/2024 16:17

I walked into my local M&S yesterday and bought five or six lovely Jaeger / Autograph things all at 50% off. It must be luck of the draw depending on branch or what you’re after I guess?
