Charlotte Tilbury - is it worth it?

I hate spending money on products to find that what I was already using was better, so should I treat myself?
I was looking at the Radiant Glow on the Go set.

I’ve bought a lot over the years and honestly you can buy better elsewhere. The only thing I repeat buy is the pressed powder and the cream eye shadows.

Don’t waste your cash on skincare. It’s no different to anything you can buy in Boots.

OnlyCorrect · 16/12/2023 12:51

Nah, I wouldn't buy skincare from a makeup brand. And her copy drives me up the fucking wall.

NoItsStillNighttimeDarling · 16/12/2023 12:53

I haven't used anything else but I absolutely adore the magic cream. I have tried several cheaper brands but always end up going back to it, it is really good stuff

DustyLee123 · 17/12/2023 12:36

Thanks all, I’ll keep my money for now.

I bought a cream blush and it’s shit. Sits on my skin unlike my Glossier one.

FknOmniShambles · 17/12/2023 19:55

I hated the magic cream - it smelled nice but left my skin feeling waxy and unclean.

SpringIntoChaos · 17/12/2023 20:31

I've had a few things as gifts...eye shadow pallet, lipstick (the 'famous' Pillow Talk shade) and some foundation. The foundation was 'ok' but not worth the cost of it! The eyeshadows were nothing special and sat in the creases of my eyes in a weird way. The lipstick was awful!! Horrible shade (like an orangey brown...not the pink/nude shade I had been led to believe it was. Also the consistency of it was just horrible...I hated everything about it.

So no...it's not 'all that' 😬

millymoo1202 · 17/12/2023 20:37

I’ve got 2 lipsticks and really like them, can’t justify the cost of anything else

MrsWhites · 17/12/2023 20:40

Some stuff is worth it, some stuff isn’t.

I love the cheek to chic blushes, love pillow talk lipstick, gloss and liner and the setting spray is the best by a mile but I don’t know how they sell any of the magic cream - it takes forever to soak in and stays on your skin like a layer of wax, it’s awful!

OverTheCountryClub · 17/12/2023 20:49

I have tried the magic cream (as a sample) and the revolution pro miracle cream (around a tenner and often on offer so cheaper) is actually a really good dupe - in fact, I actually prefer it! I like the eyeshadows I've tried (I have a quad and a cream eye shadow pot) but I don't think they are worth the money. The Hollywood flawless filter that gets rave reviews - again, I have tried this (you can buy them in mini form for cheaper if you want to try it out) and the elf halo glow is another much more affordable, and arguably better, dupe. Collection also do a similar product that's even cheaper than elf and really nice. The glow wand things are also duped by elf I believe, although I haven't tried either. All that being said, sometimes you do just have to try it for yourself so I'd say if you want to go for it then do! There are minis and the Christmas gifting which has some stuff cheaper (like a smaller magic cream for about £25 I think). Quite a few YouTubers / tiktokers do honest reviews of charlotte tilbury so worth a watch to see how products look not in adverts / on models before you splurge.

LolaSmiles · 17/12/2023 20:55

I had a lipgloss which was nice. I was looking for a replacement for a now discontinued colour I was running out of from another brand and the Charlotte Tilbury was the best match. If I wasn't looking for a specific shade I'd not have paid it. I like the eyeliners but don't think they're much better than other makes for the price.

ELF have a glow/filter product that I think might be inspired by the Charlotte Tilbury glow wands and it's great.

Haveallthesongsbeenwritten · 17/12/2023 20:57

Would Not recommend! Apparently some dupes from E L F on boots are good too

Topee · 17/12/2023 21:07

The magic cream is fantastic (not the night version though) and I also love the setting spray.

My daughter uses quite a lot of her make up but I don’t know which products she rates.

DustyLee123 · 17/12/2023 21:11

I once went to buy the pillow talk lipstick, but it was one of those Matt ones, so I passed.

FrangipaniBlue · 17/12/2023 21:13

I think as this thread shows it's down to personal preference....

My love it list:
Magic cream (but does take a while to soak in)
Flawless Filter foundation
Pressed powder foundation
Bronzer/Highlighter duo

My hate it list:
Magic night cream - greasy, sticky mess
Ditto under eye cream
Normal liquid foundation - sat in my creases
Eyeshadows - don't last

My "meh" list:
Lipsticks - do last but quite dry, need to wear with gloss
Mascara - does the job and doesn't seem to dry out in the tube, worth it if on offer

wite · 17/12/2023 21:16

Lovely packaging but no substance at all.

All fur coat and no knickers.

AlwaysSoManyQuestions · 17/12/2023 21:17

I think you can’t go wrong with No.7 - especially for skincare. And Liz Earle would be my luxury, really lovely products

DustyLee123 · 17/12/2023 21:19

I use Liz Earle now, so that’s why I’d hate to buy CT and find it rubbish.

OP posts:
BreadInCaptivity · 17/12/2023 22:30

I've got a lot of CT products.

Some I really rate, others I wouldn't repurchase.

The skincare offering is pretty weak imho. The cleanser is ok but nothing special - not a patch on my Elemis balm. I don't like the magic cream but do like the night cream (but I have very dry skin - it's super rich so very much a marmite product) and the magic water cream for day use is good for me. The serum and face oil is are a waste of money.

In terms of make up I think the foundations are useless, especially if you have dry skin. That said I do like the flawless filter and wonder glow.

The mascaras are awful - smudge everywhere. Avoid.

A lot of stuff is nice but not "the best" such as the blushers (powder and cream) and eye pencils. Nars powder blushers are much better as is pretty much any cream blush.

Brow stuff is very "meh".

The good stuff:

  • lip pencils
  • powder (really fine it's brilliant) and bronzer/highlighter palate
  • lipsticks (but I disagree that pillow talk is universally flattering - it looks awful on me)
  • eyeshadows (powder/cream and the colour chameleon pencils)
  • under eye concealer and the corrector
TootenCarMoon · 17/12/2023 22:36

I’ve bought the Colour Chameleon pencil quite a few times in Bronze Garnet.

Have also just got the Pillow Talk eyeshadow palette, the sparkly one and it’s fab although my eyes can feel a little crusty the next morning so not 100% sure I’m not a little allergic to it.

One of my daughters uses Flawless Filter and her skin looks amazing, I have it too but I only use it on cheekbones as a highlighter as it makes me break out a little bit on one of my cheeks.

alltoomuchrightnow · 17/12/2023 22:37

Shit no! My foundation burns, it feels like it has menthol in it! so bizarre..and not great for sensitive skin
Powder is very low quality
Cost tons! :(

greengreengrass25 · 17/12/2023 22:41

Is the concealer any good?

Dairy1eaDunker · 17/12/2023 22:42

I recently discovered Magic Cream and Flawless Filter and they have give me the natural glow I have chased for years! Ery wary of dupes not offering the same skin benefits or just having sinilar packaging with not much substance inside.

Pillow talk lipstick doesn't suit me so much and doesn't have the staying power that Mac Velvet Teddy has.

JobMatch3000 · 17/12/2023 22:46

Liz Earle is now (or certainly was) owned by Avon. That's why the brand expanded into make-up.

SuperPug · 17/12/2023 22:49

Flawless filter - good but I am sure I could get a cheaper version .
Moisture Blur lip gloss - looks good for a bit, doesn’t last.
Foundation looked orange and odd on my skin - No7 Hydraluminous has been great, far better than more expensive brands for me.
CT lipstick is too dry, colours aren’t great - Chanel, Estee Lauder and Dior far better quality with better pigment.
