The Jigsaw one is lovely. I wish they did it in red or purple - love a bright coat. Personally I think that camel (fur or colour!) only really suits dark- or olive-skinned women.

Jigsaw coats look nice but are poor quality unfortunately and only last a season IME

I've been listening to a podcast recently where a contributor said her dh had bought her a boxy camel coat. She wanted to send it back because she looked like an amazon parcel in it

friendlyflicka · 16/12/2023 23:37

I bought top of the range Max Mara cashmere coat on eBay in a tobacco colour that really suits my dark colouring. Was being sold because the very rich husband because the wife had taken the labels off and then changed her mind about the colour. I had all receipts from Selfridges and got a £2000 coat for £250. I always buy preowned but that coat is incredible

hashisucks · 17/12/2023 08:09

@friendlyflicka it’s amazing when something like that happens!
I agree about finding a colour that suits too, if you are cool-toned or olive camel
can be tricky. Saying that I am light Summer and do wear camel but I get away with it as have light blonde hair and it somehow works.

No to belted as they give dressing gown vibes. Single breasted all the way.

heartbroken40 · 17/12/2023 12:08

@Oldraver i prefer a more classical style.

And YES this thread has finally opened my eyes to belted coats and their pitfalls (yep I did look like I was in a dressing gown especially because the Theory one didn't have any lining)

@Oldraver that Gloverall duffle is fabulous. Thank you. Just what I want and may order it in black.

I disagree. Camel is a terrible colour for anyone dark with a cool tone, like many olive skin people It looks terrible on me, makes me look ill.

You could be right that they don't suit all olive-skinned people, but I used to live in Italy and thought they looked great on most Italian women.

PaulaPocket · 17/12/2023 15:00

I asked DH for a camel coat and he got me a donkey jacket. His excuse was 'I got the animals mixed up'.

I agree.

OP have you looked at the Reiss Mia coat?

A camel coat is a coat made from camel hair ( usually the tummy hair)

It’s not cashmere, or wool it’s camel.

Only one of the coats suggested has camel hair in it from what l can see. I mean pure virgin wool isn’t camel. Nor is cashmere.

@ArseInTheCoOpWindow Thank you, that's really interesting, if I ever knew that, I forgot it a long time ago, I'd always just associated "camel" with that particular colour! (Could I just point out, that colour has zero to do with the camels I met when I was living in the Middle East!)

@Kommm looks amazing thanks!!!
