I have a long Max Mara wool camel coat and I get so many compliments all the time! Mine has a belt but I never close it. This is my second winter with it and it looks the same as it did when I bought it. Worth the investment imo!

Enko · 14/12/2023 19:05

I would go for a MaxMara one over most other brands.

Their quality is just amazing. I have a few pieces of their clothing. they last for ages and their cut and fit are just great.

let us know what you end up with OP

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 14/12/2023 19:12

I would personally spend a bit more money on a proper mainline Max mara coat. S max and studio are by note of their price range inferior quality and nowhere near as nicely cut.
I would buy real deal in the sales.

Belted coats are a lie! They make everyone over a size 6 look like they're wearing their nan's dressing gown.

This 💯

LadyEloise1 · 14/12/2023 19:37

The Boss coat is beautiful.
A classic.

CointreauVersial · 14/12/2023 11:18

I'm sure the OP will be along in a minute to confirm whether she meant a "camel-coloured" coat, or a coat specifically "made from the hair of a camel". I'll bet it was the first one.

Re: the Coggles coat I have a couple of belted coats and never actually close the belts, so it wouldn't be a great selling point to me. I also think this particular one is an awful awkward length for a belted coat....but I see you've ordered and discounted it anyway.

I love the Jigsaw one, because it's a great length, looks elegant and classic (and @Floisme it says 100% wool). That's my favourite.

I agree that the Boss one is a bit short, which limits what you can wear it with.

Maybe she needs a coat for her camel?

Twopea · 14/12/2023 20:34

So disappointed. I was hoping you were looking for a coat for a pet camel

hashisucks · 14/12/2023 21:24

@WowIlikereallyhateyou not sure I'd describe 'S Max as "inferior" quality - the coats are still good and not everyone has a 2k budget. I'm petite and the Max Mara mainline coats all absolutely swamped me.

Loafbeginsat60 · 14/12/2023 21:28

Fairfax and favor have a lovely one - I'm not going to post a link because every time I go on their website I come away £500 lighter

Love that. I'm in the market for coats for my pet goats - we could talk about that if you want?

Edited

Of course they are a different quality, they are a totally different league of price, cut and quality of materials. Max mara mainline do any number of sizes and lengths,so really why you would be “swamped”.

hashisucks · 15/12/2023 08:06

@WowIlikereallyhateyou I don’t think anyone would dispute that a (actually more like 3K if buying in the UK) coat is fabulous quality but I would say that isn’t most people’s budget - and the OP’s original links wouldn’t have made me think she was going to pay a mainline price either. I think it’s a bit mean to suggest an £800 S Max is an inferior quality coat, although it may be relatively speaking, it’s still an excellent pure wool coat. And I still love mine (I have 3).
And yes, I went to a Max Mara shop in Italy when I bought mine, I didn’t have a set budget, and the mainline coats were too voluminous and bulky on me (158cm and slight) and I tried on a LOT of styles with an open mind. I was also able to try the smallest sizes. If you’re an average height or above you probably don’t really experience this.

It isnt mean comment at all. It is a fact.
If OP were to invest some more money, ( in actual fact I have seen new mainline coats on vestiere, ebay etc for 30% more than studio ones), but you do have to look around and maybe christmas isnt the best time to buy. I have sold icon coats after wearing them for 4/5 years on ebay and got £800+ for them, and you get a better quality coat and one you can sell if you get fed up.

notlucreziaborgia · 15/12/2023 12:54

Mainline Max Mara is superior quality to the diffusion lines, and if affordability is an issue there’s always places like Vinted. I took a quick look after reading this thread and found this one, for example:

Please help me buy a camel coat

Sususudio · 14/12/2023 13:49

I love both the Max Mara ones. So jealous of people who can wear camel. As an Asian, I just look brown all over. Looks so classy on others though.

Me too! I was complaining about this only the other day. I love them so much but they look terrible against my brown skin!

I'm a 2-4 and also very short, and I was specifically going to say that belted coats make me look as if I'm bundled up in a dressing gown. They are horrendous (on me).

NotImpressedAgain · 15/12/2023 22:06

None of these coats would look good on a camel. I’d suggest something more like a horse blanket

Amara123 · 16/12/2023 10:15

What about sezane, they do nice coats?

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 16/12/2023 10:24

I really don’t like any of the MaxMara ones, any of them.

Depending on OP’s budget I’d almost be tempted to go to an old fashioned wool place (regent street?) and get a fairly plain classic wool coat - or get on Vestiare collective.

I do think you have to be slim or a certain body type to do a tie belt camel coat and I’m fairly lucky (dark blonde but pale) that camel isn’t really my colour though I guess I could get away with it if I wanted.

Mercurial123 · 16/12/2023 10:49

The Karen Millen coat is nice but only 50% wool. I have one of the MaxMara coats the OP linked, but I don't wear it much. I prefer the Italian stadium wool cocoon coat I bought from J Crew four years ago.

LaCerbiatta · 16/12/2023 10:56

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 14/12/2023 11:28

The Jigsaw one is lovely. I wish they did it in red or purple - love a bright coat. Personally I think that camel (fur or colour!) only really suits dark- or olive-skinned women.

I disagree. Camel is a terrible colour for anyone dark with a cool tone, like many olive skin people It looks terrible on me, makes me look ill.

LadyEloise1 · 16/12/2023 12:30

I am fair and I think camel ( colour ) really suits me.

RosesAndHellebores · 16/12/2023 12:34

@op whether you are spending £300 or £3000 this is an investment piece. The point made by a pp above, about whether Camel (beige, brown, orange, yellow, khaki, etc) suits you was a good one. Fine if you are warm toned "autumn" or possibly "spring". Camel will do nothing for you if you are a winter/summer.

What colours usually suit you? Do you feel good in?

I could spend thousands on a Camel coat and it would do nothing for me.
