I had a makeup splurge

I love clothes and makeup but try not to overbuy as a general philosophy. However, I have been using things up for ages and could warrant some new stuff. I have just bought: Jones Road miracle balm (natural and Miami Beach), Trinny highlighter stuff (Dido), plus two beautiful lipsticks and a sparkly eyeshadow from Bobbi Brown. They are all so beautiful! I’m 43 and have only just discovered Jones Road and Trinny. These will last me forever.

Nothing more meaningful to say here. Just enjoying a guilt-free splurge. Anyone else done similar? 🙂

Sounds lovely! I love makeup too. I do buy expensive stuff but it lasts me ages as I don't like to wear loads at once. Enjoy your goodies.

thedukeofbuckinghamshire · 02/12/2023 10:26

Which eyeshadows did you get? I am hopeless at eyeshadow, it's the one thing I don't really have a clue about. I just wear neutral.

CopperLion · 02/12/2023 16:32

I got a Bobbi Brown sparkly neutral single shadow. It was actually a gift with purchase. I like it but would not have bought it myself as it’s too sparkly. I guess it depends on your preference though @thedukeofbuckinghamshire - what kind of look are you after?

I don't know really, I don't wear much makeup and I find eye shadow a bit scary. I'd like to be able to wear a really glittery green (brown eyes) but I always look like a clown when I try.

I bought myself a lipstick, mascara and highlighter from Chanel for my birthday- I have had the same Clinique highlighter for literally 20 years before that… I felt I was due a splurge!

CopperLion · 03/12/2023 07:06

@Fightarealfire congrats! Grin

I didn’t know that Chanel did a highlighter. That’s tempting but I had more highlighters than I could ever use in a lifetime now.

I got an Hourglass foundation and Surrant mascara from liberty as I had a voucher. Both really lovely.

They do, it’s lovely but is on the glittery side.

I bought the Hourglass ambient palette the other day and was almost having the vapours at the price as I never spend on myself. It is bloody lovely...makes my 60 year old skin look like a pearl

CopperLion · 03/12/2023 16:39

@Gatekeeper what do they cost? I am a fiend for a good highlighter. Sounds lovely on you!

I’d forgotten about Hourglass… <tempted>

@CopperLion I got mine from John Lewis on Black Friday- £58.

CultureAlienationBoredomandDespair · 03/12/2023 16:54

@thedukeofbuckinghamshire this might be good for you as a gateway green. Just dab it on with fingers, very festive and you just need the one colour, no blending multiple colours together https://www.lisaeldridge.com/products/daphne-liquid-lurex-eyeshadow

I just got a lovely Fenty eyeshadow palette the other day. Am in the market for new concealer and eyeing up the Lancôme Teint Idol one, meant to be very good.

I’m off to Sephora next week which might be dangerous 😁

Fightarealfire · 03/12/2023 18:07

can anyone recommend a good colour corrector for under eye bags? I have M.E so mine are awful. I’m happy to splurge on something that really works.

Which palette was it, please? x

CopperLion · 04/12/2023 05:29

@Fightarealfire I am very fair-skinned so also have visible dark shadows. I use a combination of Becca under eye corrector (not sure if this is still available, but it’s similar to the one Bobbi Brown is famous for) and NARS soft matte complete concealer. The NARS stuff is particularly good at covering shadows without getting cakey.

Truth be told, I sometimes add a third layer of light reflecting concealer as well but have been told on this board before that spending that long on my under eye makeup is the definition of madness Grin

Thank you! Bought it!

wp65 · 04/12/2023 18:29

@Gatekeeper please can I ask a beginner's question? What do you do with this palette - use each colour separately on different parts of your face, or use them all together over your whole face?

Gatekeeper · 04/12/2023 18:33

@wp65 at the minute I am swooshing the fat brush over all of them and dusting my face.

wp65 · 04/12/2023 18:39

@Gatekeeper thank you! I might buy myself one as a January pick-me-up!

kerstina · 04/12/2023 19:00

I also bought the little miracle balms and one was Miami Beach . It is pretty and I got a glittery one .I love anything sparkly! Even primers .i have eyeshadow, blushers , lipsticks all with sparkly glitter in . People always say on here about they don’t like sparkles too much 😂 Enjoy your haul.

If you like glitter you will love the Christmas highlighters from Chanel- so much glitter in them!

kerstina · 04/12/2023 19:31

Thanks for the recommendation ! I still have a Chanel loose powder I think it is in a shade called fairy dust it’s beautiful ,so finely milled and the sparkliest make up I own. I must have bought it about ten years ago but still lots left as it was a huge pot,
