Could anyone recommend a really good mascara?

Looking for something waterproof, that gives volume and lift. My most recent one was CT Pillow Talk Push Up Lashes, I found it clumped and smudged a lot (on me, I have friends who love it). My eyes water so much, I need something really waterproof. I'd so appreciate any suggestions

I've tried many but the one I always end up going back to is actually Loreal Paradise waterproof mascara in the blue tube.

ScentlessAprentice · 27/11/2023 15:26

Oh really? Thanks a mill, I'll give that a go, so. I've tried so many over the years and always end up with either clumps, smudges, or it crumbling off. Hopefully this one works for me.

I'm using Kylash. Cruelty free, gives volume and no itchy eyes

KirstenBlest · 27/11/2023 15:30

Stop using 'waterproof'. IME they crumble after a few hours, and I've tried expensive, medium and cheap brands.
Use a tubing mascara instead, e.g. No7 Stay Perfect.

What does tubing mean in this context?

ScentlessAprentice · 27/11/2023 15:40

Thanks for the replies, though now I'm even more confused 😂 , so might try the L'Oréal and N7 kinds that have been recommended.

@antiquepowder is the Kylash expensive? Can probably spend about 35 quid

@LylaLee , Regular mascaras work by coating lashes in waxes, oils and dyes that can easily smudge, smear and crumble. Tubing mascaras work differently, wrapping polymers around each eyelash to form a tube (hence the name). Not only are they smudge-proof, but they’re super long-lasting – staying in place until you’re ready to remove. (cut & pasted from the Indy)
They tend not to give a lot of volume.

@ScentlessAprentice I paid £23 but boots and others have it on offer for £18 right now

Was coming on to say the same. I used to be a complete mascara whore but this is the only one I use now.

They tend not to give a lot of volume.

So technically you could use a volumising mascara, wait for it to dry then use a tubing mascara to get the waterproofing and length without the crumblines of a waterproof mascara.

ScentlessAprentice · 27/11/2023 16:10

Thanks for the heads up, @antiquepowder , going to order it now. Actually going to order the Number 7 and L'Oréal ones now, cos feck it, I want great eyelashes so I'll try them all 😁

Benefit’s they’re Real! mascara is really excellent for volume, thickness and non-clumpy eye lashes, but be warned - do not sneeze or even move for a couple of minutes until it dries, or you’ll become a panda.

SpottyUnicorn · 27/11/2023 16:42

I've tried dozens of different mascaras across the years- from cheap to very expensive. The best mascara that gives lovely volume and really extends my lashes is Benefits Badgal Bang. It's absolutely brilliant.

I suffered just like you until I discovered this Japanese gem:

Isehan Heroine Make Long & Curl Mascara Waterproof Black amzn.eu/d/fjs57Zq

And you need the remover that is around £9 that they recommend with it in the pale blue tube.

Kiss Me Heroine Make Speedy Mascara Remover 6.6mL amzn.eu/d/5GFUWFM

You will never look back (pun intended).

GingerLiberalFeminist · 27/11/2023 17:44

Came on to see if any were better recommendations than me using No7 Lash Extender. Nice to see there isn't (so far!)
Don't use waterproof is my honest tip

KirstenBlest · 27/11/2023 18:18

@LylaLee , you try it and let us know how you get on.

L'Oréal volumous

ToriTheStoryteller · 27/11/2023 18:23

I've started using Lush solid mascara and I love it. My eyes are constantly watering but this doesn't run, doesn't make my eyes itch and on the odd occasion I do rub my eyes it doesn't smudge.
I do one layer then use eyelash curlers and do a second layer on the underside and I think it gives them as much volume and length as others I've used. Bonus is no packaging at the end of it.😉

mothertrucking · 27/11/2023 18:25

I got a free full size sample of Dior mascara and it's honestly amazing. I'd never consider buying an expensive mascara but I'd splash out on one paying full price because it's fantastic. It doesn't clump, separates lashes, doesn't smudge, and wipes off easily.

I tend to use Maybelline sky High mascara or Benefit.

TheBitterBoy · 27/11/2023 18:26

As a side note, if your eyes are watering a lot and you don't have an allergy, you may have dry eyes (sounds counterintuitive I know). Worth investigating, it's extremely common in peri and post menopausal women, and generally more common in women than men.

Roussette · 27/11/2023 18:32

If you want a cheap mascara, this is one of the best...

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08WR5CPNB/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1

Two people asked if I was wearing false eyelashes, which is really weird as I'm an old fart 🤣

Sorry, I see you mentioned it!

ScentlessAprentice · 27/11/2023 19:00

I want them all. Doing up my 'Santa' list for DH, it's going to be nearly as long as my eyelashes will soon be 😂

@TheBitterBoy ,that's really interesting, thank you. I'm definitely perimenopausal, actually seeing my GP this week as haven't had a period in 4 months, so the watery/dry eyes are something that I'll definitely mention.

Lancôme Doll Eyes Waterproof has a well-shaped tapering brush that lets you get every last lash and a nice smooth buildable formula. And it's pretty waterproof:-))
