To get a boob job or not?

Beanscene · 14/11/2023 22:32

Debating on a boob job, to get bigger and firmer boobs. Currently have teabag small boobs. Has anyone had a boob job.. If so was it worth it? Having never had large boobs not sure if I would like how they feel. Never liked the size of my boobs and effects my confidence..

My friends, who are the same height as me and about the same age, frequently comment that I’m slim. I’m not - the difference is I am a B cup and they have larger boobs. 😉
My mum and grandmother were well endowed. They taught me to love my body. I recommend you do too.

Yes, I get that all the time. Small boobs and fairly tall at 5'7" . People think I am a lot slimmer than I am.

RavingStone · 15/11/2023 10:10

I'd say "no" but mostly because I wouldn't mess with the nerves on an area of my body that provides so much sexual pleasure.

I'm aware that boobs aren't sexual for all women though and that the reasons are more complex.

Although perhaps understandable, I find it quite sad that the NHS provides minimal help for issues with implants. Do they judge that the societal context in which women choose to do this to themselves is less deserving of understanding than the societal contexts behind all manner of other things that the NHS do treat?

AllFeetAreUgly · 15/11/2023 11:20

No don't do it.

catattacks · 15/11/2023 12:21

Never

I would consider a reduction

I would love small teabag boobs

Whattodo112222 · 15/11/2023 12:29

I would start by calling it breast augmentation.

Big boobs are more 😵‍💫 than they're worth. I've recently shrunk to a 38G from a 38 hh, now bras are a lot cheaper, dresses that are too tight over the boobs now fit with a couple of poppers to keep them together.

Men now glance at my boobs rather than stating at them.

squareyedannie · 15/11/2023 12:59

I think clothes look much better on flat-chested women. They just hang better. Mine are small. I used to have fake breasts but had them taken out as I hated them. They were uncomfortable to lie on, never felt right, and made me look weird. It was such a waste of money for me.

RampantIvy · 15/11/2023 13:07

No they don't. They look better on women with curves - maybe not the hugely well endowed, but on a completely flat chest where they have been cut for womanly curves they just don't hang well at all.

Cotswoldmama · 15/11/2023 13:17

I've got tiny boob's and they've never really bothered me, sometimes I used to think it would be nice if they were a bit bigger but I'm very slight so I'd look silly if they were much bigger. I'm a a/b cup. When I breast fed my son I went up to an E cup. I honestly hated it, I felt like they were so noticeable and there! I felt like that was the first thing people noticed. They obviously weren't fake but because they were so solid and big looked fake to me. I definitely after experiencing what it was like would never have a boob job

millymog11 · 15/11/2023 13:18

Not read the whole thread. I have had a mastectomy of my right breast due to breast cancer. I was offered a reconstruction but after the mastectomy operation I declined in light of what that operation involved and what they said a reconstruction would involve. I wake up every. single. day. and give thanks that i am alive and can be a mum to my two children. They know I only have one breast but I am alive and I am still their mum.

Nothing beats being there for people you love. I know people get breast jobs every day of the week and come through fine and healthy but it is not a risk free process.

Would I like to have perfectly in proportion firm breasts like women in the magazines? If someone offered me this 100% risk free, maybe, but frankly i can live without that in the bigger picture of things.

Breast implants carry a Black Box Warning Label

ALL breast implants carry this label, saline or silicone they all have to carry the label because of the harmful materials/ingredients in the implants. There are no safe implants, no matter what anyone tells you hence why the FDA require them to have the black label. Sadly though this is not a label you will ever get to see, because you never see the box they are delivered in. Only the surgeons ever see this label. All implants have a shelf life, even if you do have 25 year ones, the recommended replacement time is still 10 years.

Before going ahead with any surgery please look into what is called BIA ALCL this stands for Breast implant associated Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma, a cancer that is literally associated with and possibly caused by implants. There is also what’s known as BIAI Breast Implant associated illness, implants can cause immune response and are known to trigger autoimmune conditions like Hashimotos Disease, Graves Disease, Addisons Disease, Lupus etc among others.

I hate to be the bearer of doom and bad news but I only tell you this from bitter experience. I support anyone to make whatever choices they would like about their own bodies, but it’s also important to know all the facts, and sadly the fact is that many surgeons and cosmetic companies do not properly tell you about these vital and key details that have long lasting impact on your health and life.

There are several class action law suits going on around the world in relation to the negligence and omission of important information by manufacturers. The Black Label warning is only a relatively recent addition by the FDA in response to understanding the harm these implants cause.

Sorry to be gloomy, but this stuff is important to know.

TheChosenTwo · 15/11/2023 13:25

I always thought about getting mine done. They’ve always been on the small size but since having kids I think tea bag boobs is a really accurate description of mine 😂
saggy and empty. I’d like them just picked up and plumped back out again. They don’t fit in bras properly as there’s no volume in them at all. So I can get the right back size and the right cup size but even balcony/balconette (whatever they’re called!) don’t fit properly.
However even the thought of showing the surgeon them makes me want to die so I’ll just leave them as they are. Plus, it’s an unnecessary surgery risk that I don’t think is worth taking.
I don’t know how to embrace what I’ve got so I’ve not got any advice other than to say if I woke up and they were back to my pre pregnancy shape and position I’d be elated!
Tops look crap on me, I don’t have much to put in them. I’ve got wide hips and look really unbalanced.

NoraLuka · 15/11/2023 13:30

I wouldn’t but if it will make you happy and sure it’s what you want and you’re ok with the risks then why not?

I speak as someone who has only had massive boobs for precisely one day, just after giving birth. They looked amazing and I wish I had that naturally but unfortunately they felt like sore wooden footballs stuck to my chest so I didn’t mind too much when they went down a bit!

LurkerTurnedPoster · 15/11/2023 13:38

The other thing to bear in mind is that mammograms can be less reliable if you have implants. As someone who has gone through breast cancer twice - both times discovered by mammogram as too small to feel lumps - I wouldn't do anything that made detecting possible tumours harder!

@xyz111 good to know that women with small breasts can still be successful...

It's reassuring, isn't it! 🤔

The best information so far on this thread. I had a breast augmentation 20 years ago. Had to have them removed due to a problem with one of them 7 years ago.

I wasn't told about the increased risk of the type of breast cancer identified above associated with breast implants.

I had a very worrying wait to see if after having mine removed and biopsies taken that I didn't have cancer. It's really not worth it.

Implants are a foreign body and your body is constantly fighting against them. If I had my time again I would NEVER have had them put in, and put myself through everything I had to go through.

Seas164 · 15/11/2023 13:53

I haven't had a boob job but I can let you know how large boobs feel. To me. They're all over the place when you're doing any sport and you'll spend the rest of your life in search of the holy grail of sports bras. You will also have to start spending money on bras in general, because a lightweight cute little lacey thing won't cut the mustard. They will have a crease underneath them that will be wetter than an otters pocket on anything remotely resembling a warm day, and if you dare to take them on holiday they will get a heat rash that will be itchier than you can imagine. Dresses will become your nemesis as they'll zip up until you get to your ribcage and then stop dead.

Personally I wouldn't bother unless you've done absolutely loads of research and you're prepared for it not to be straightforward. There's also the possibility of the dissatisfaction being turned on another area of your body, how much do you like your bum? Your upper arms? Jowls forming yet? I think it's a slippery slope.

PhilInthepotholes · 15/11/2023 14:08

I think having smaller boobs nowadays isn't seen as "bad" as 10 years ago. Loads of people have had them removed, like Victoria Beckham. So many celebrities have smaller boobs, and they're still successful!

@xyz111

I can't believe I missed this first time round. WTAF?

I have lived with my "smaller boobs" (I can't even fill an AA) for far longer than 10 years, and I can assure you that it has not been "seen as 'bad'" by anyone other than a bellend in all of that time.

As for celebrities: leaving aside whether "celebrities" have anything to offer at all, are you suggesting that it's surprising that someone should be successful despite having small tits?

I can assure you it isn't.

RampantIvy · 15/11/2023 14:11

I doubt that most women wanting more curves want huge boobs that are difficult to clothe or play sport in. They just want a few more curves - so bigger, but not huge.

Balanceitout · 15/11/2023 14:12

I have a sibling who had a boob job. She was a AA. She has never regretted it.

Obviously it's a very individual choice.
As long as you would be doing it for yourself, not to make someone else happy for example, then all that matters is if you would be happy with it.

My sibling is ordinarily a wimp when it comes to pain (She happily admits this.) So for her to go through it and still be happy with it says a lot about how important it was to her.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 15/11/2023 14:14

what about a lift and fat transfer as an alternative? a lot of good advice here re risks to implants, not to mention necessary revisions as they don/t last forever.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 15/11/2023 14:22

I wanted bigger boobs when I was younger (I’m a B), and really considered a boob job.
so so glad I didn’t.
Now im in my late 40’s I can see that I was doing this to be attractive and attract the male gaze, for lots of reasons that I’ve now worked through. I know this is just personal and im not suggesting this is anyone else’s driver.
now i positively don’t want the male gaze at all, in fact I resent it and reject it.
also, my friends who have bigger boobs are saying that theirs have sagged and dropped (mine are too small to go anywhere) and im
really happy with my smaller boobs! They definitely give the impression of being slimmer too IME.

spookehtooth · 15/11/2023 14:23

@Beanscene you speak very generally about confidence, have you tried to flesh it out in detail with specific examples and whats happened in your life to make you feel that way? I dont mean here necessaily, but it might help with finding other ways to improve confidence.

If you having bigger boobs is important to someone else, they're not your friend. It's how I view my lazy eye, I don't want to friends or intimate with for anyone who'd want me getting regular Botox injections to keep it straight or an operation that'd only last 10 years and be the last I'm allowed. Take me as I am, or get lost 😁

Stop bodyshaming. Why come on a thread about a woman feeling insecure just to be nasty? Don't you have anything better to do with your life @RampantIvy
