Does anyone own them ? Are they super warm etc Myself and my husband are thinking of buying one each however I’m concerned about the animal rights etc am I right in thinking they’ve stopped selling real fur .
Im really unsure about it on that side of things but If they are changing their ways it’s a good thing.
We both have never had decent coats apart from I have a joules charlington and that is nice and I enjoy wearing it . we both feel the cold a lot so wondering if these coats are good.
We are thinking of investing in a good coat such as these as they have a lifelong warranty and seems better than keep throwing away £50-150 on coats every few years that don’t keep us warm or dry . The lastest joules one is nice so it may just be him that buys one I’m still thinking it over . Thank you

I wouldn't buy one as I don't purchase down products. Good, they stopped using fur. As an alternative, Thermaloft is really warm. I have a North 66 parka, which got me through winter holidays in Iceland, the Baltics and Scandinavia.

Greenshake · 13/11/2023 12:37

They are rapidly becoming the uniform of the offender unfortunately.

Showmethemoneyyy · 13/11/2023 12:41

They’re definitely not waterproof either, for the most part, water resistant at best.

I’ve got one from a few years ago, and it’s certainly warm, but think there are plenty of other brands now which can easily compete.

Lothcat · 13/11/2023 12:43

Yes I’m definitely going to look at other brands so please give your recommendations

I've got some, they're very very warm! You can pick different types depending on how warm you need it to be, they're ranked by how warm they are and the descriptions will tell you what the temperature range is. Unless you're off out into freezing temperatures often then they're a bit too warm for general wear I've found, but I only have the giant ones as that's what I've used them for.

I have a bomber style Canada Goose. It’s one of their original styles as I’ve had mine a while. I would definitely not recommend this design. Much better to get a longer one.

I found it too warm and too thick for UK weather. The bomber is def intended for arctic conditions. Occasionally drag it out when the temperatures are below freezing. The hood is oversized so the fur trim covers my eyes and sounds are muffled.

I do like Canada Goose as a brand - especially those longer coats as they don’t appear anywhere near as bulky. They are very well made and I would say worth their money.

GCAcademic · 13/11/2023 12:46

Have a look at Didriksons. Very warm, and waterproof - I have the Erika. It is probably too warm for all but the very coldest days in the UK, but if you're looking at Canada Goose, I'm guessing this is a priority.

Snoken · 13/11/2023 13:07

I agree with Didrikson. Much nicer and less brash or obviously branded.

Lothcat · 13/11/2023 13:12

ive just came across Holland copper and a coat I like does anyone know that brand and if the coats are warm thanks

I got my DH a north face coat a couple of years ago and he wore it when we went to Canada and the snow was up to our knees. He feels the cold if the temp drops below 21 in the house and he said he was roasting in this coat.

Lothcat · 13/11/2023 13:18

Thanks I’m going to check out all your suggestions and hopefully find something.

I have one, which I was given second hand so it's not one I bought.

I am not sure I would spend that amount of money on if I were to buy one new in all honesty. It is warm and its very thick. Mine is the shorter style, so only just covers the bum. It is like wearing a duvet as it is so thick that I battle to move properly when I wear it.

I found the cut is quite small as well, it isn't awfully roomy to be able to wear something underneath (not sure that you would need to though). Although there is a chance the person who gave it to me may have shrunk it somehow.

The last time I wore it, a man came up to me and asked me what expedition I had completed. The look I gave him must have been the giveaway that I had no clue what he was talking about. He then pointed to the logo and said he assumed I had completed one... 😂

(I do live in the Southern Hemisphere so it really is not a logo one sees much, in his defence. And I had taken the detachable fur off, as that is just a little dramatic for here I feel).

Ballsbaill · 13/11/2023 13:59

66° North is probably better. Not covered in logos either.

Ballsbaill · 13/11/2023 14:00

Oh but 66° North is tiny. I wear a small in sweaty betty but have to take L to XL in 66 North

Ineedwinenow · 13/11/2023 14:03

My husband and I both have them as we go to the Nordics every year and need them, I’m not sure what the comment was about being the choice of coat for offenders??? but we genuinely need ours and they do the job perfectly

WomanFromTheNorth · 13/11/2023 14:07

I tried on my neighbours once and it was so heavy, like wearing armour; for this reason she never wore it. She also said it was far too hot for the UK. Also, Bad Boy Chiller Crew wear them. Enough said. 😆

MangshorJhol · 13/11/2023 14:10

I live somewhere where it’s very very cold in winter. Lands End makes good coats with down filling that is also water proof. As does Patagonia. I have a Patagonia 3 in 1 that I wear when it’s -15/20.

I find mine true to size, it's definitely not tiny for me.

whiteshutters · 13/11/2023 14:55

Coyote fur and goose down have no place on a human body. There is no need for it.

Because all 66° North products are the same right?

With a tindur women's fleece jacket you are warned to buy 2 sizes bigger.

With the Dyngja coats you're advised to size down.

It really depends on the item as the sizes vary wildly. There are sizing guides and advice on every product on the website in this regard.

You knew that right? 🙄

Ballsbaill · 13/11/2023 15:02

Like so... you have to look at the sizing for every product at 66°North as it varies wildly

I would recommend Didriksons as an alternative. Really fantastic winter coats and I live in the very cold north of Scotland where is rains a lot too.

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 13/11/2023 15:17

I have one but it has to be really cold, like -30 and below, before I can wear it as I get too hot.

Perfectlystill · 13/11/2023 15:18

This made me laugh!
