Laugh out loud clothing

IdealisticCynic · 10/11/2023 11:29

I have a pretty much live and let live attitude to clothing. Generally if I see something a bit out there, I just shrug and think good on whoever wants that.

But occasionally I see something that seems so ridiculous, that it makes me laugh out loud. Today’s item: https://www.jigsaw-online.com/collections/dresses/products/roksanda-fringed-knitted-dress-berry?_gl=1agmcle_up*MQ..&gclid=CjwKCAiAxreqBhAxEiwAfGfndMTIbNfmdWln5jIxItMrxST14Bz2p9ljJcfTjpHZdMON3NVzZH9l3hoCiMEQAvD_BwE

How is it sold out??

Would love to see if anyone else has this reaction to some items and would particularly love to see screenshots/ links to them. Very much need a bit of cheering up/distraction today.

What's "terrible" about that?

Really? 😀
Oh come on it's like ridiculously oversized pyjamas. Imagine wearing that fluffy grey monstrosity in public, even aside from the practicalities, or lack of, of such an outfit.

Chocolatepeanutbuttercupsandicecream · 11/11/2023 11:10

How about this beauty from H&M 😂

@SukeDamson , Goodness only knows what's supposed to be "terrible" about it.
It makes the model look like she's about 5' with very short legs.

I would like the black tshirt with the fish tank mentioned. I Googled but it doesn't appear to be online.

It's only acceptable with a fake goldfish. With a real one, there's nothing funny about it.

JaneJeffer · 11/11/2023 11:33

It's always surprising how conservative some posters are about clothes.
You're having a laugh

MerryChristmasToYou · 11/11/2023 11:35

@CherryMyBrandy , In your opinion. I on the other hand agree with the OP, it looks fucking ridiculous, but you do you. Maybe you can pull it off :-)
I didn't say I'd wear it or that I even wanted to, so I'm not sure why you felt the need to be rude.

CharlotteRumpling · 11/11/2023 11:37

Yes, I am well aware that a real goldfish would be grounds for the RSPCA to be involved. 🙄

A pigeon bag for just £650

I thought I saw that in And Just Like That
? I'm sure Carrie had it 🙄

CharlotteRumpling · 11/11/2023 11:54

She had the goose purse from Judith Leiber gifted by Big! Which she hated.

@SukeDamson The proportions. It even makes the model look like a gnome. Her legs are about 2 inches long.

Not to mention the fact that her trousers cover her shoes and it gives the silhouette that you are a giant grey pear.

I think the photo doesn't do it justice, the model looks as if she is bending in some way to make her legs look weird. Standing straight and being taller would make it look so much better.

As it is, it reminds me of Morph or similar.

MidnightMeltdown · 11/11/2023 12:24

Possibly @MonumentalLentil, although it takes some stretch of the imagination.

If I ordered that I'd be expecting a wool oodie to turn up

Marblessolveeverything · 11/11/2023 12:28

@IdealisticCynic I've found my cats Christmas present. Your op outfit is perfect 😍

No, not at all.

Theokaycokey · 11/11/2023 12:31

@WoollyBat

You'd end up looking like Buster Gonad from Viz if you bought those!

You could be right. However I have discovered the comfort of looser clothing so tend to give things consideration. A lot of clothing can be improved by height and personality too. (Sadly not on me).

It does look comfortable though (and the bonus is that no-one one would notice if you put weight on).

I love the fringed dress - especially the use of those two berry colours together.

Also love this:

I knew this thread would only go one way!

It appears to have done. The would-be fashionistas, and humourless emperor’s new clothes people always jump in. And now some people are ignoring the thread title completely and posting photos of clothes they love 😱

Gwenhwyfar · 11/11/2023 13:50

"Actually I love quite a few of these things, what does that say about me ?!"

Having seen quite a few people on this thread like the clothes, I'm making a mental note about being careful when asking advice on S&B.

"basically the shape of a baked potato with legs… ever since she had a total hysterectomy at 50."

As my doc suggested a hysterectomy to me I find this terrifying. I couldn't afford expensive fabrics even if I wanted to wear unusual clothes.

cannaecookrisotto · 11/11/2023 14:15

I now desperately want the feather cape!!!

Don't know where I'd wear it but I love the idea of floating round in that!!!

It would be the removal of the ovaries that cause the baked potato shape, rather than the hysterectomy itself, so if it is just the uterus your doctor wants out you may not be affected.

However once the ovaries shut down we are all destined to struggle with baked potato shapedness. I hope I can embrace it with the gusto of the previous poster's mum!

I had to have a total hysterectomy 2 years ago due to a cancer diagnosis. I eat well, rarely drink alcohol and exercise a lot. I haven't gained weight and look exactly the same as before surgery.

Total hysterectomy is the womb and cervix as far as I can gather so the poster's DM didn't get her ovaries out at the same time (radical hysterectomy) and presumably wasn't plunged into menopause overnight.

I'm not sure mad clothing will make me feel better about looking like a baked potato :)
