Something sparkly

I'm a bit clueless and could use some suggestions please. I've been invited to a party which will be pretty low key ie chatting and scoffing rather than drinking and dancing on tables but the dress code is sparkly . I live in black jumpers and combats or jeans. I'm in my sixties, size 14, and just want some token sparkle without feeling like I've dressed up as a Christmas tree. Any ideas please? Also budget is under £50

I’d just go for a Christmas jumper with sparkle, and maybe some leather look leggings.

If you’re happier and comfortable wearing black, I’d wear nice jeans (ie not baggy ones with rips and covered in emulsion!) and a flattering back top but wear a sparkly scarf to go with it. If you want to push the boat out, go for a glittery top instead of the black one.

I am over 60 and planning on wearing this skirt, with leggings and chunky ankle boots with a long black top over to any event I go to...
They have a good silver star tee also, which I am also thinking of getting.. https://tuclothing.sainsburys.co.uk/product/tuc143296363

...not to wear together, but the tee will be good for home on Christmas day .

I love this idea thank you

Edited

I like both of those, festive but not over the top

If you go for the last option in my post above, I'd let your jewellery be the sparkles - so some earrings and a necklace and perhaps a bracelet or brooch that you could pop on to the top that would have the sparkle that is required.

I really like option 3 thank you

You could still wear all black and sparkle it up with a lovely necklace or earrings. The most important thing is to feel comfortable and enjoy the gathering 🙂

Annoyingly I'm allergic to all earrings and can't stand the feel of clip ons but a lovely necklace sounds good 😄

@LookItsMeAgain I love that M and S top in the photo!

I got a sequined bomber jacket off eBay last year for about twenty quid to glam up for Christmas. It was hilarious, but fun and everyone commented on it!

I kind of like that. Not sure I could carry it off though!

If you like the M&S sequin shirts, Peacocks have some for half the price. I like that they can be worn open as more of a jacket as well as done up.
https://www.peacocks.co.uk/4504347-silver-sequin.html. Don’t really like to spend a lot on things I won’t wear regularly.

I'm the same. I can't justify spending loads on something that is going to live in the wardrobe for most of the year

Agree I don’t like “Christmas only” clothes either. i like subtly sparkly things, and do wear them year round as well. Slightly glittery jumper with jeans and boots or trainers is a fine non-xmas look I think.

Anon1072 · 11/11/2023 11:37

I was in Sainsbury's yesterday and it looked like they had quite a lot of sparkle. They definitely had tops and skirts in I think, black and dark green. Might be worth a look and I doubt any of it was expensive.

DailyEnergyCrisis · 11/11/2023 11:41

I bought a disco ball style skirt from Next this week. Lovely with a simple black top/jumper and tights.

My office party has the same dress code and I'm going for this kind of look. The top is from M&S

I went into River Island today and they've got loads of really nice quality clothes that have a little (or a lot!) of sparkle! The whole shop is sparkly. You could wear jeans or black trousers with a sparkly jumper, or they have a lovely silver sparkly short skirt if you're feeling bold (you could wear with thick black tights and black top). Maybe pop in there if you're short of ideas? x
