Teenage dd wants to wear a suit for prom

xsquared · 02/11/2023 18:39

Dd is adamant that she doesn't want to wear a dress but a two piece with trousers or a suit of some kind.

I've looked at old threads for inspiration, but she's not really after a tux or dinner jacket type suit.

What are the alternatives please, if you've ever had a dd like this?

Thank you.

An alternative would be not to go, and not to have low or single use clothing. I assume your DD has some care for the environment.

Oh get a life. Are you as environmentally conscious in regards to everything else in your life or do you just pick one crusade you like to shove on people? Do you sit at home not using electricity, hand washing your clothes by candlelight? I think that would be a no

Try ASOS, they have loads of unusual ones.

Love this!

Sureaseggs44 · 03/11/2023 10:54

Love the asos one. With black net skirt and DM would look great

CatOnTheCludgy · 03/11/2023 10:56

And isn't it amazing now that sneakers and trainers are ok to wear out out! No more stupid disabling high heels. (yes they look nice, but they are daft)

Seriously? You have heard of second hand and vintage clothing haven't you?

Going to the prom and being environmentally friendly are not mutually exclusive you know.

Look at pictures from the canine film festival, quite a few older ladies chose silk suits, looked amazing and more comfortable than dresses

I'd love to go to the canine film festival.😹

Sorry, I have nothing to contribute re the suit.

You know what also causes damage to the environment? The Internet and all the things one posts on it, perhaps you should consider your environmental impact by logging off and go and having a lovely hemp tea or some shite, and stop being a virtue signalling fuckhead.

What’s the budget? And given the prom is in June (?) I would wait in case she changes her mind / January sales.

Joe Brown

Luxury

Suit from monsoon

Desigal

My 17 year old DD is 5"9 and would look brilliant in that, but I just know she'd wear trainers with it.😂That said, she's got a pair of green suede Jordans that would probably work.

NRTFT but ASOS always have loads of coloured and patterned suiting in women’s/men’s/unisex

Cheap enough to have tailored to fit locally if required (ASOS jackets and trousers are usually sold as separates so you can mix and match sizes anyway).

I LOVE this one (it’s very ‘Weird Barbie’):

I quite like it, but it's a bit acquired taste. It's somewhere between a mauve harlequin and a Batman villain.

IActuallyDidItMyself · 03/11/2023 13:17

Cate Blanchett wears some amazing suits on the red carpet - maybe look at some images of her for inspiration?

Your description makes me like it even more!

She is feminine, but she just doesn't like dresses.

She is open to wearing a two piece, with a skirt bottom amd a tailored top half.

Maybe a jumpsuit or playsuit?

Dontwanttobeyourmonkeywench · 03/11/2023 14:14

My DD wore a Karen Millen suit to her formal but opted for a purple satin shirt and Irregular Choice shoes. She loved being comfortable and was by no means the only one who opted for a suit

petermaddog · 03/11/2023 14:17

i wore a brocade and burgandy smoking jacket w/bellbottoms and platform shoes

psst it was in1973

AttillaThePlum · 03/11/2023 14:30

Yes mine did just this last year. The mood board was all David Bowie so we ended up with a green 70s style suit from ASOS and a vintage shirt.

It's actually been quite a bargain / ecological as she uses the suit for 6th form now.

We appear to have the same DD! She wears just that outfit to parties.

Dontwanttobeyourmonkeywench · 03/11/2023 14:34

It has been the best ebay buy because she wears it in different combinations with other pieces.

tellittothemoon · 03/11/2023 14:41

There are some great pyjama suits out there at the moment. Or just wear pyjamas.

Radom · 03/11/2023 15:09

Mine were a Lilic suit with a white lace top Top and looked beautiful.bonus made it much cheaper than a prom dress

MrsFionaCharming · 03/11/2023 15:20

My very stylish sister in law got a fab silk floral suit from Zara a couple of years ago. Would be worth including that in a Vinted search.

Is there such a thing as a wedding onesie?😁
