Or will you start opening in November?

Either way, it's not long now......time to make your choice (s).

*move on - not live!

ACAC2023 · 14/11/2023 17:09

I’ve already taken the necklace and bracelet out of my Calendar & have been wearing them as I genuinely don’t own any jewellery like this, so it’s a novelty for me 🙂

LaBrujaPiruja · 14/11/2023 17:29

ClarkeWGrisswald · 14/11/2023 17:06

@LaBrujaPiruja but you bought the calendar in the first place so clearly did initially want those items as they're in that specific calendar? Anyway - good to hear you were refunded and can now live on from it

I loved the box (stupid reason, I know) and liked the contents (better than other ACs).

I have decided I’m not buying an alternative to Vogue AC.

Beauty “editors”, please take note for next year; we do not want scrunchies, mirrors, sleep masks, hair clips, etc. in a luxury AC.

(I can also live without socks and “gold” jewellery in an AC).

I'll add nail files and face rollers (rocks) to that list.

I mean really, what a joke.

CaveMum · 14/11/2023 18:09

@CorneliaStreet thanks again for the Perfume Society recommendation (I’d never heard of them). I’ve just ordered one of their sample boxes and hopefully I can find a few scents in there that I can put on my Christmas list!

I'm with you. When I buy a beauty calendar, I want beauty. Not socks or eye masks or headbands. Love perfume though. A calendar with perfume I haven't tried is always calling to me. That's my weakness.

MavisMcMinty · 14/11/2023 18:21

I have about a dozen sleep masks still in their plastic packaging and have never used one - what are they for?

I think for people who try to sleep when it's light, maybe night shift workers? I've never used one. Don't like things touching me when I'm trying to sleep....not even DH.Grin

MavisMcMinty · 14/11/2023 18:27

I really don’t mind scrunchies, hair clips, headbands, mirrors or bracelets. My hair’s very long since the lockdowns of 2020 so hair accessories are essential these days, compared with my neck-length bob of the previous 10 years. (Never ever dreamed that the hairdresser would be the person I missed most!)

Hate and detest eyelash curlers and think there’s at least one in my collection of ACs, but I doubt there’s an AC out there where I’d love every single drawer.

TragicMuse · 14/11/2023 18:29

I agree about most hair clips, except my best hair comb - the kind for putting hair up - is a very old Liberty one that I've had for decades. It's a slightly bendy plastic, not brittle and is just brilliant. I'd love another of those if it existed.

ACAC2023 · 14/11/2023 19:15

Eye masks are good for long distance flights, when trying to sleep and if on holiday and there are no blackout curtains 😂. I don’t really wear make up and am very fussy about perfume. I do like the moisturisers and hair products though. I’ve no real interest in the Vogue box at all but will likely keep it to store socks. It’s huge though

MavisMcMinty · 14/11/2023 19:17

Gosh, I’m trying to imagine having 25 pairs of matched socks to fit into an AC box. 25 single, unmatched socks though - definitely.

ACAC2023 · 14/11/2023 19:21

😁

narniabusiness · 14/11/2023 19:21

I do use eye masks in the summer time as I wake as soon as it is light (so about 5) but if I pop on an eye mask I can manage to go back to sleep. I wouldn't feel comfortable with one on my eyes all night though.

ClarkeWGrisswald · 14/11/2023 19:34

@LaBrujaPiruja I oh yes the box is divine isn't it

Talisin · 14/11/2023 19:54

@Twinsandsome Mine is missing days 1, 4, 8, 13, 15, 17 & 20. I would hope that that is a one off piece of thievery but do check your calendar (or get someone else to do it) as soon as it arrives. I’ve never had a problem with Sephora before so I’ve never had to navigate their truly appalling customer service process until now!

Oh my….that’s a huge amount missing. Maybe since there is more awareness of AC’s containing expensive sellable items, it can be an easy money maker for someone who has no scruples and a Christmas delivery or warehouse job with rubbish pay and no loyalty. I know that it could be one bad apple, not wanting to cast aspersions on everyone…but I think I remember something happening in a warehouse with HN purchases being taken a few years ago.

MavisMcMinty · 14/11/2023 20:09

Oh God, that’s awful! Hadn’t considered checking my ACs, and haven’t ever had anything missing before (but I’ve never bought a high end AC before).

bippityboppity87 · 14/11/2023 20:38

Anyone got the Sephora advent calendar and recommend it?

JoeyRamonesHair · 14/11/2023 21:22

Was nearly tempted by the John Lewis calendar now it's discounted. However, a closer look = a nasty pink lipstick and red CT eyeshadow palette. Red eyes is why I WEAR makeup, you dolts.

MidnightMeltdown · 14/11/2023 21:41

Yeah I was put off by the makeup in JL too. The lip products and blush in particular are really pale and will only work on people with extremely pale skin. I'm olive skinned and those lip products would make me look like a corpse. Silly colour choices for an advent calendar if you ask me.

CaveMum · 14/11/2023 21:50

Martin Lewis has flagged up the Debenhams advent calendar as a particular bargain (currently £68) so that may now disappear quickly.

pinkchampagne1 · 14/11/2023 21:57

I might be in the minority but I would rather pale coloured lipsticks than dark shades.
Not sure about the eyeshadow. I wear purple eyeshadow usually (I have dark eyes) so the colours might be ok but if not I will sell on Vinted.
There are a few DOD for me with the JL calendar, and I agree about the blush shade being too light, but there are lots of products I like and it is a more reasonable price (now it has been discontinued) than the other high end calendars. I am looking forward to opening it in December. 😊

JoeyRamonesHair · 14/11/2023 22:16

Don't suppose anyone knows of a Harvey Nichols discount?

MidnightMeltdown · 14/11/2023 22:23

I just think that darker lip shades are more inclusive as they can be worn by anyone

Pale shades only work on people with very pale skin. Otherwise you are wearing a lipstick that is lighter than your natural lip colour - which is a massive no no and as it will make you look dead!
