Crocs - worth it?

bob1985 · 31/10/2023 10:55

My DD has heart set on some fur lined crocs for christmas. But I'm a bit put off my price.

Are they worth it? Or are cheaper alternatives just as good?

I wear the regular crocs and they've lasted years with daily use, bought 2nd hand when Crocs were considered really naff.
I've previously had some from Primark and Aldi, and they were fine but didn't last as long.

Does she want them for using as slippers or is she planning to wear them out and about?

If they're just for wearing as slippers, then get cheap ones.

If she is anything like I was as a youngster, only the real ones will do.

bob1985 · 31/10/2023 11:18

@KirstenBlest thank you!

yes she's kinda heart set on 'real' ones, but i can probably talk her round.

She definitely would wear them out, so that's a good point. I don't want something that will only last few wears

The real ones are much better quality and more comfortable. I have some cheap ones for round the house and they are stiffer and more plastic so if I wear them too long the top feels like it's cutting into my foot a bit.

If you know sizing look in Amazon. My dd wanted some and I paid £31 on Amazon. You will be limited in size / colours probably at the lower prices.

KirstenBlest · 31/10/2023 11:25

They're trendy. I see young people wearing them out and about.

Try TK Maxx for the real ones or shop around.

I'd be tempted to get unlined ones and add furry lining, as the fur ius likely to wear out, and the unlined ones are great instead of flip flops, but I'm middle aged and practical.

Ibravedaflood · 31/10/2023 11:26

Ime the real ones are worth it. Cleaner here and they get covered in allsorts and shove them under the shower and they come up new... Fake ones drop to bits. Walking when they get thin soles is awful! Fur liners are fab too!

KirstenBlest · 31/10/2023 11:28

A search for "fur liners for crocs" had quite a lot of results from about £4

RubyBoozeDay · 31/10/2023 11:29

Get real ones. I'm a nurse and wear Crocs for work and they are the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn.
I also have Crocs for walking on the beach and fur-lined Crocs as slippers.
They are virtually indestructible and whilst fashionistas might sneer, they are worth the money in my view.

letspopthekettleon · 31/10/2023 11:31

Real ones are totally worth it, great quality. On trend too so if your daughter is anything like I was when younger, she'll want the real deal.

justalittlesnoel · 31/10/2023 11:41

Real ones are worth it! I've got some that are years old and still going. Super comfy too!

Cheeesus · 31/10/2023 11:45

I have always bought my children real ones by keeping an eye on Amazon. I got myself some fake ones and they’re not great.

There are lined ones for £38 ish on Amazon, but you may find cheaper.

If you're a student, or know a student, they get a discount code for Crocs. Also healthcare professionals get a discount with a valid Blue Light card.

KirstenBlest · 31/10/2023 13:59

@RubyBoozeDay , the dental nurse was wearing them when I had a check-up a few days ago.

I got years of daily wear from my primark crocs and they weren't uncomfortable but they didn't quite look like real crocs

Edited to remove characters added by DCat who is fascinated by my crocs.

Poniesandrainbows · 31/10/2023 14:00

Just a warning... the fur gets dirty really quickly

UngratefulOldCabbage · 31/10/2023 15:22

Definitely real ones - most comfy shoes I own! I got my daughters from Amazon Warehouse. They'd been returned but were still brand new in packaging. Paid £16 with free postage!

youveturnedupwelldone · 31/10/2023 15:33

I think crocs are one of the most awful things on the earth, but I still own two pairs. They are only worn in the house but man they're comfy....

Anyway, I've had them for 7-8 yrs and they are still going strong. So I'd definitely go for the real ones especially if she's going to wear them as much as she possibly can.

Someone said the fur gets manky - I'm sure they are infinitely machine washable.

The fact crocs are "in" baffles me... fashion has no rhyme nor reason!

Soontobe60 · 31/10/2023 15:35

Honestly, just get her the genuine ones if you can - she wants the real deal, not some snide copy.
I hate labels, but for Christmas / Birthday I would get me DDs whatever they wanted within budget.

DelphiniumBlue · 31/10/2023 23:04

I'm still wearing the Crocs I bought last time they were in, must be 20 years ago!
But however much you spend and however long they last, your DD will not be wearing hers as a fashion item in 2 years time. They'll remain useful forever, though! Beach, camping, garden, indoors, they work for all of those.

rockpoolingtogether · 31/10/2023 23:05

Crocs are trendy? Wtf. I've reached that age of disbelief at fashion.

VWT5 · 31/10/2023 23:24

She might want some of these to stick on too?….

Crocs - worth it?
Sonolanona · 01/11/2023 00:34

I'm wearing my 20 year old originals right now Grin
Now totally smooth on the bottom so deadly outside if it's wet, but honestly... I think I'll be buried wearing mine!! So comfy!

Get proper Crocs.. they are worth it (and I want a new pair for Xmas!)

Screamingabdabz · 01/11/2023 00:44

Yes real ones only. If you buy her fake ones it’s a wasted present.

kitchenhelprequired · 01/11/2023 00:47

Yes to the lined ones, they are fabulous. Find the name of them a do a search online, you could well find them at a good price particularly if DD doesn't have a specific colour in mind.

jlpth · 01/11/2023 00:51

Real crocs are hardwearing and high quality. We've had a mixture over the years and now we only get real ones. I've never had fur lined ones - the attraction of the ordinary ones are that they are so easy to clean. They can be several years old and look virtually new.

jlpth · 01/11/2023 00:51

Oh meant to add, you could look up whether crocs do black friday
