Am I too old at 54? Will it be painful to sleep on? It's my birthday soon and I think I'm having a bit of a mid life crisis 😂

Hi @MeridianB

  1. yes of course it's Ok! They're your ears so your choice! Most people don't really have matching set up past lobes anyway.
  2. yea. I have a gold hoop in my helix. You actually can get pierced with gold as long as it's at least 14k. Make sure you get pierced with a flat back stud / labret and get it done with a needle. And honestly no need to be brave. I'm not! It only hurts for a second, and if for some reason you regret getting it done (which I'm sure you won't) you can just take out the jewellery and it will heal up.

Thanks so much. It’s the healing pain I’m nervous about.

I has my helix pierced at 55 - no pain and don't even notice it's there. It looks great and my grandchild think I am cool 😂

I didn't really have any pain from mine while it was healing except if I knocked it. My forward helix hurt every now whilst healing and then but not the regular helix.

Thank you, both.

How long before you could replace the piercing earring with something different?

I had my daith done nearly 2 years ago and got it changed last April.
forward helix is 18 months in and tragus 6 months, neither feel ready .

My ears are mismatched I’m thinking about another piercing in the ear that has only two pieces but I need to let the tragus settle

I changed my helix from a stud to a hoop about 7 months after it was done. I went back to my piercer though and got her to check it and then she put the hoop in. It was completely fine. Having said that I tried to do the same with my conch at about 8 months and it was a big nope. I got an ugly bump and had to switch back to a labret. It's been 11 months now. I'm going to try again at a year.

Oh I gave up on it about a month ago. Took it out, was fed up of it being sore.
