Am I too old at 54? Will it be painful to sleep on? It's my birthday soon and I think I'm having a bit of a mid life crisis 😂

I'm managing just sleeping on my other side, it's fine.

@OriginalFloorboards Yes the pillow is def worth it, I bought my daughter one too. I wouldn't be without it - I even takeout on holiday with me. They are just like a normal pillow but with the hole, I'll be using it indefinitely. I wouldn't want to use a travel pillow personally, I find them so uncomfortable and wouldn't contemplate using one every night in bed. The v2 PWAH is best as it has no loose edges which could catch your earrings.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 01/11/2023 10:07

I have a double tragus piercing
love it and it healed really well

OriginalFloorboards · 01/11/2023 14:30

@Twoshoesnewshoes wow can we see a photo please?

faustina · 01/11/2023 15:59

I was going to suggest a tragus piercing too - it's very visible with long hair

Twoshoesnewshoes · 04/11/2023 16:59

My double tragus!

MissBPotter · 04/11/2023 19:23

I’m glad you went for it op, looks great. My dh has just informed me I’m too old to get one for my 40th birthday next year and I’m a little unimpressed!! Now thinking I might get a nose piercing haha!

Ok I have a weird symptom. I'm getting an intermittent stabbing pain in my ear. Doesn't appear to be infected. Any clue what this might be?

OP posts:
Strangerfings1 · 21/11/2023 15:15

@Floofydawg when my helix was healing I'd get like a sort of stabbing with a pin feeling that would come and go for a couple of days. It seemed to coincide with a leak of clear plasma 🤮. Then it would stop and maybe do it again a month or so later. It's fully healed though now. Never got infected or anything. I think it's normal. Unless it's swollen or feels hot or something?

Floofydawg · 21/11/2023 16:32

Thanks, no it feels find otherwise. Tiny bit sore still.

It's like someone has a Voodoo doll of me and is sticking pins in - quite painful!

Daft question to you lovely lot…if you could help? My Tragus (4 weeks old on Saturday) was knocked by my horse and is now red and itchy.

It has been itchy on and off healing but not red.

As I’m going through the menopause and my husband thinks it’s ridiculous to have one at 50…I’d really like to keep it as it makes me so happy at a time where I’m up and down like a yo yo.

No HRT allowed. Small stuff like this feels like big stuff to me at the moment. Lost dad earlier this year so I’m just all over the place and my little Tragus makes me smile every morning (as do my horses when they don’t head butt it!).

What do I need to look out for going wrong?

Up until now it’s been a breeze.

Apologies if this isn’t the right thread.

Get yourself some of this. And tell your husband to sod off.

My forward helix is a little swine , probably trying to crawl away from me , mortified that I;m 57 Shock
It;s about 8 months down the line , just before I went on holiday my ear got swollen and I could not even fell the back .
I used some boiled lightly salty water ,quite warm, on a muslin cloth. As often as I could .
It was a choice of ;
leave well alone
go to the piercer -not feasible as I was going awaty
go to medical appointment ( I was not alllowing anyone to remove it except a piercer )

I kept bathing it and it settled .

OriginalFloorboards · 21/11/2023 20:21

Thanks so much @Floofydawg I will order it now. Yes, I’ve already said that to him but a bit more sweary than your version!

Ha I'm normally more sweary, was being polite. I've been using that twice a day and seems to keep the infection away. You keep doing whatever you need to do you make yourself smile. Menopause is utterly shit.

I know someone who got her tragus and helix pierced for her 80th birthday AND a tattoo. You are never too old for anything.

I got my first ear piercing ever (helix) aged 47!

My helixes and lobes have healed fine but my forward helix is being an absolute swine to heal 6 months down the line, and I think it's because I slept on it too much when it was first done (I'm a side sleeper and can't help where I end up when asleep!).

Snowyowl78 · 22/11/2023 08:25

@Libra19752 i had my forward and normal helix done about 8 weeks ago and they are not i great shape.

I think the forward one is just about ok but the normal helix is all red and lumpy round the back, is quite gross. Feels like the back is growing over the earring back which is unpleasant. I’m trying just to leave it alone, I don’t think it’s infected or anything.I can’t imagine being able to take it out in 4 weeks time which is not ideal because I do a sport which doesn’t allow it. Oops!

I also have a holey pillow which is great

Strangerfings1 · 22/11/2023 08:50

If it feels like the back of your ear is growing over it, then I think you should go back and get it checked out. Hope it's ok

Snowyowl78 · 22/11/2023 08:57

@Strangerfings1 thanjs, I think it’s just the same as people have mentioned up thread to be honest, is a lump at the back which I googled and sounds quite normal. Will give it a little while and see what happens. The forward one is ok!

I don't think you can expect to take it out for sport after 12 weeks anyway. 8-12 weeks is the normal timeframe for downsizing but it won't be fully healed for at least 9 months.

I would also get advice if the back is swelling over the jewellery.

evilharpy · 22/11/2023 22:27

I got a helix and a forward helix back in March. The forward helix healed very easily but the helix was a bit annoying, I had quite a big, sore lump at one point and was convinced it was a keloid. This stuff worked miracles and healed it within days (I also had the Protolind spray linked to above which didn't do much for me).

Both of mine have now healed perfectly, it took about 6 months for the helix but I believe this is actually quite quick and most people's takes longer. I've changed both of them without any problems, and am now wearing a cheap gold plated silver hoop in my helix (rather than titanium) which isn't causing any problems at all.

I was 42 when I got mine done but I don't know why anyone would put an age limit on ear piercings - that's just daft!

Hello all

Found this thread as I'm thinking of a helix but not brave enough yet.😬

I have two questions please:

  1. Is it OK to have just one ear with a helix piercing?
  2. I keep seeing talk of barbell fastenings and titanium - is this only while it's healing? Can you wear any earrings in the helix once healed?

Thanks for your advice, wise ladies.
