I hate my lips….fillers?

crazyaginglady · 25/10/2023 19:12

I vowed I’d never but now I’m mid thirties and not feeling very flirty I’m tempted. I’ve always hated my lips, thinking and a horrible shape, and have a sturdy jaw and have been considering getting fillers to detract from this. Is it an awful idea? I don’t mind them when I smile but hate them in my resting face.

Pics attached 😬

You have lovely lips. Please don't get fillers.

determinedtomakethiswork · 25/10/2023 19:17

Personally, I think fillers would look awful. They would make your lips twice as big. Your mouth is lovely in the smiling picture!

Winnipeggy · 25/10/2023 19:17

I don't think there's anything wrong with your lips at all but if you do go down that route I would go for the smallest amount. A face looks instantly out of proportion when lips are too large

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 25/10/2023 19:18

Your lips don't look thin to me 🤔

Tiddlywinkly · 25/10/2023 19:19

I don't think there's anything wrong with your lips. Please don't use filler. It can be spotted a mile off.

crazyaginglady · 25/10/2023 19:21

Maybe a permanent smile instead then 😂. I keep telling myself I’d only get a small bit and they’d look fine, despite me disliking them on everyone else. But maybe they are just the bad ones?

I dunno, low confidence after two kids and hitting mid 30s. Sounds so shallow but the compliments have disappeared and the lines replaced them.

Lip fillers are awful, and your lips look absolutely fine. I can guarantee that no-one is looking at you and thinking "ugh, awful lips!", but they will if you get fillers.

Lavenderosa · 25/10/2023 19:22

"have a sturdy jaw and have been considering getting fillers to detract from this"

In which case you want to draw attention away from the lower half of your face towards your eyes and hair. Your lips look absolutely fine as they are.

anunlikelyseahorse · 25/10/2023 19:24

They look fine. You have an amazing cupids bow.

CharlotteRumpling · 25/10/2023 19:25

Low confidence will not be helped by getting fillers. In fact, it will never stop.

Chypre · 25/10/2023 19:27

You have lovely lips! What you need is a spark back in your eyes and a spring your walk. Fillers are painful, expensive, take time for swelling to go down - I do like how mine turned out, but whole process is such an ordeal… Better get a massage or completely restyle your hair, this surely will pick up your self esteem in an instant.

@Strugglingtodomybest good point!

I’ll admit that I’m not a fan of the look of lip fillers generally so perhaps take my opinion with a pinch of salt…but you have lovely, natural lips and I think you would be really spoiling them if you got fillers.

suntannedsnowballs · 25/10/2023 19:29

Well I'm not anti-filler like the PPs

I actually had my lips filled to even them out a bit after emergency facial surgery after an accident

My own mother and husband still don't know

However, I paid a surgeon an obscene amount of money to ensure I didn't look like I'd had filler 😅

But anyway.. no, you've got lovely lips. Maybe treat yourself to a new hairstyle and some clothes, if you start messing with your face then you'll always find something to tweak and then you'll do ridiculous

fedupofeverything9 · 25/10/2023 19:31

Fwiw I think your lips are lovely. I understand however, that no amount of other people's opinions will make you like them if you don't. It's ok to not like something and want to change it.
If you want someone good to do it, check out. The Consultant Clinic on Instagram (or their website) all doctors with lots of experience.

samestyle · 25/10/2023 19:32

I've tried it pros and cons

Pros I felt more confident
Lipstick goes and stays on better
Gives a more defined shape
It isn't permanent if you don't like it, it lasts about 6 months.
It only looks unnatural if you keep topping it up and choose to go too big.
Reputable practitioners wont do this.

Cons
Procedure really hurts more than I ever imagined
It's expensive for such a little time
Risks of infection
bruising/pain for a few days
Filler can migrate in lumps or above your lip line

I decided although I like it, it's not worth the pain and upkeep

chachachachangesoolala · 25/10/2023 19:37

Your lips look absolutely fine to me. You have a defined top and bottom lip and a lovely smile.

Getting filler is a very personal choice. If you do get it, you have to me comfortable with the fact that everyone will know you've had it. It's always obvious, whatever other people say.

Personally I don't like the lip filler look. But I'm clearly in the minority in some of the place i go to.

Thekormachameleon · 25/10/2023 19:41

You have a really nice shape but I do think you'd benefit from filler

Do your research and find someone great, despite all the posters above, I've had filler and literally noone can tell
I've kept my natural shape and just added a slight plumping

Pressthespacebar · 25/10/2023 19:45

I think filler would be good but choose wisely. Do your research and look for a place that has photos of the kind of look you’re after.

stay away from beauticians and hairdressers, find a medic who practises.

Pressthespacebar · 25/10/2023 19:48

the place i go to are doctors so can prescribe dental blocks, I don’t feel a thing. Also if filled properly there shouldn’t be any migration. What you want is a smooth flat finish.

JamSandle · 25/10/2023 19:53

I personally hate how fillers look and think you have a lovely mouth and smile just as it is. For what it's worth.

HopelesslyDevoted2u · 25/10/2023 20:03

Your lips are lovely. There are ways of making them look fuller with shading and highlighting. I wouldn't get fillers if I were you

crazyaginglady · 25/10/2023 20:06

Thanks all, this has been helpful. Not sure I could be bothered with the upkeep and expense. If everyone has shouted ‘yeeeessss’ then maybe but if they’re not that awful then maybe I’ll leave them be. I do worry about not being able to stop!
