I hate my lips….fillers?

crazyaginglady · 25/10/2023 19:12

I vowed I’d never but now I’m mid thirties and not feeling very flirty I’m tempted. I’ve always hated my lips, thinking and a horrible shape, and have a sturdy jaw and have been considering getting fillers to detract from this. Is it an awful idea? I don’t mind them when I smile but hate them in my resting face.

Pics attached 😬

You do have nice lips.

I think you'd suit 0.7ml or a lip flip.

Blondebutnotlegally · 25/10/2023 20:29

Come on everyone. "It's always noticeable!!!" No it isn't. You are just referring to the people with obscene amounts. You won't notice those with only a little because... its not noticeable.

defi · 25/10/2023 20:30

I think 0.5ml would be a lovely a tweak. Mumsnet is very anti lip filler though

Toddlerteaplease · 25/10/2023 20:32

No one looks good with lip fillers. They look like ducks.

theduchessofspork · 25/10/2023 20:36

The thing about fillers, is even if you have a tiny amount, it looks weird when you talk.

You lips are perfectly nice. Get a lipstick instead.

Cotswoldmama · 25/10/2023 20:37

Your lips are lovely! I can always spot a injected lip and really don't like the look though

Joolsin · 25/10/2023 20:38

I think your lips are lovely - they look really smooth too, no dry skin or chapping. When you're not smiling, they do turn down slightly, but I don't see how fillers could make a difference to that - you'd just have fatter lips that turn down when you're not smiling!!!!

You have a really nice shape but I do think you'd benefit from filler

Do your research and find someone great, despite all the posters above, I've had filler and literally noone can tell
I've kept my natural shape and just added a slight plumping

Please can you show us before and after pictures?

Missingmyusername · 25/10/2023 20:51

I couldn’t be bothered with the upkeep personally. But then I hate going to the hairdressers! I also hate getting my nails done…. so I’ve stopped doing that too.

Can they fill with saline to give you an impression of how they would look? (No idea!)

I personally wouldn’t bother in your shoes, your lips aren’t noticeably thin. I’d keep them moisturised, get a nice lipstick / gloss and perhaps get my hair done, or a make over.

From what I gather 1ml of filler is too much, more natural results from much less. But I think it takes more expertise and costs the same or more so people get the 1ml option. A few work colleagues get it done, this is just my take away on it.

Thekormachameleon · 25/10/2023 20:53

Literally just balanced my top lip out and slightly plumped it

Good filler is invisible. You can also use lip plumper lipstick. You can do exercises to build up lips as well and make them more even- google exercises for stroke victims and lip training. This will improve the contours. Facial yoga is good for downturned lips. Also slather with Vaseline.

Princessfluffy · 25/10/2023 20:58

@Thekormachameleon What is your second photo, it's super blurry? Is it the before or the after pic?

musicalfrog · 25/10/2023 20:58

The natural look is so much nicer OP. Step away from the filler!!

Thekormachameleon · 25/10/2023 21:00

First pic after filler, second pic is before

You should carefully research who does them and their technique. I like to look at the consultant clinic on Instagram they're very informative about methods and brands of filler- some migrate and attract lots of water that gives the cheap love island look. You might want shape rather than much bigger. I would also get a full face consultation as you might find that a little filler in your jaw or chin would get you the results you want over lips (I have had filler for 'liquid rhinoplasty' and was delighted at the results)

Jellycats4life · 25/10/2023 21:05

Your lips look completely normal and fine. It’s only the weird culture we live in that makes you think they are thin.

And I can always tell when someone’s had filler. It’s not the size per se. Even subtle filler is obvious when you see someone’s mouth moving.

CharlotteRumpling · 25/10/2023 21:08

Just my opinion, but what a lot of work and money to either look terrible or
more or less the same.

PilatesPeach · 25/10/2023 21:16

@Thekormachameleon very nicely done

@Thekormachameleon very nicely done

Thank you
Hopefully helps to dispel the often voiced 'you can always tell when someone's had fillers and they look awful'

Bbq1 · 25/10/2023 21:18

The people posting b and a pics did have extremely thin lips before but they're trying to achieve lips like yours, Op! Leave them alone, they're fine.

Lizzyinatizzy · 25/10/2023 22:04

smiley pic reminds me of Sophie Winkleman/Big Suze and she’s beautiful.
Personally I find all these carbon copy faces that all end up looking the same to be very dull but if it bothers you then you should do what you think will make you happy.

YouDoYouHun · 25/10/2023 22:08

crazyaginglady · 25/10/2023 19:27

This is my fear.

This isn't always true. I didnt like my lips, I wanted them to look a little fuller. Got 0.7ml of filler, love it, they just look 'hydrated'. Filler doesn't have to always look crap.

Raisinganiguana · 25/10/2023 22:08

Ignore those saying rubbish like ‘it’ll be spotted a mile off’ and ‘your lips will be twice the size’. They’re just thinking of celebs and those that overall it. I had thin lips like you and went to a good practitioner and had a small amount, no-one noticed, which was what I wanted. But a number of people told me how great I was looking.

Raisinganiguana · 25/10/2023 22:11

And I can always tell when someone’s had filler. It’s not the size per se. Even subtle filler is obvious when you see someone’s mouth moving

this shows you don’t even understand what filler is. It’s Hyaluronic acid, which is what plumps your lips naturally. Unless it’s vastly overdone and you have duck lips it’s impossible to tell because it’s literally what’s in everyone’s lips.

itsmylife7 · 25/10/2023 23:13

You've got lovely shaped lips OP.

Honestly I'd not mess with them.
