Went real life shopping today and couldn't find anything so hoping Mumsnet can help 🤞🏼

I need an outfit for a Christmas party. Everything I saw today was full on sequins and it all felt too much
Looking for probably a dress or a jumpsuit but open to options
Nothing strappy or strapless, nothing backless or high neck line either.
Looking for sexy but elegant

I'm 5'4, brown hair and eyes, pale but will fake tan and I'm a size 12
Budget £100 or so

Any suggestions or pointers or outfits anyone has seen?

Look at Hobbs, they've lots

Or John Lewis personal shopping - it's free

dancemom · 21/10/2023 16:28

Thank you @Tilllly never shopped at Hobbs, I'll take a look

Thank you @Lentilweaver that's a really nice dress but it's just not my style

I'm usually fairly classic and plain and simple

How long do you want it if you gofer a dress? I've been looking for a long sleeved black mini dress that isn't too high necked, and am really struggling.

I saw that green M&S dress in real life today. The colour is nice but I didn't like the look of the dress shape/quality much.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 21/10/2023 16:48

What sort of party is it? Would a satin skirt and nice jumper work?

MariaMeringue · 21/10/2023 17:13

There are lots of nice dresses in all different styles on the Next website. Here are a few ideas:

I am bored and avoiding the housework, so may just go on making terrible suggestions! So hard to find anything below £100 that is not polyester and sequinned these days. But M and S is really good for plain and simple ( I don;t mean that as an insult). I quite like this colour. https://www.marksandspencer.com/satin-tie-waist-midi-waisted-dress/p/clp22571765?color=GREEN#intid=carousel_FUNH_AT_PHOENIX-SIMILAR-PERSONALISED_END_PDP_16_3:4bac8ddf-14b9-43a6-a9ff-d92d6ee75193

Beautiful colour but I don't think the neckline would work for me, I tend to look like 👍🏼 have a shelf unless it's v neck or round neck

I could do full length or knee length if it goes with black tights

It's a fancy party in a hotel and I really want to make a good impression

Yes definitely open to this if it was dressy enough

I'm 43 but my teenage daughter would love these!

Too short and strappy for me but thank you

I actually tried on some Quiz items today but they were polyester and just didn't hit the mark

I do apologise everyone for being so picky

Just might be a bit warm if there's dancing involved. Whistles usually do thin sparkly jumpers, but the quality can be hit and miss.

LadyoftheLavaLamp · 21/10/2023 17:33

Try vinted, you’ll be able to get much better quality for your money

itshappened · 21/10/2023 17:34

Again ignore the price as I know it's expensive, but would this kind of style be something you would consider? www.cefinn.com/collections/dresses/products/jacquetta-short-sleeve-v-neck-maxi-dress-with-neck-tie-detail-green

Persiana · 21/10/2023 17:43

@itshappened that black dress is gorgeous!
