Why is everything CROPPED?!

I’m so tired of seeing something I like and it’s bloody cropped. I don’t like cropped, I don’t want to wear cropped. Cropped tops, T-shirts, jumpers, even bloody fleeces and coats!

I have been after a fitted broderie cami like the picture for AGES but they’re all cropped! If they’re not then they’re floaty and I don’t want floaty. It’s annoying because five years ago they would have been easy to find, but now it’s go without and have my gunt peeking out below

I really hope the cropped craze calms down soon.

I agree. It's ridiculous now that it's winter - who wants a cold midriff unless you are a teenager?

DaftQuestionForToday · 21/10/2023 10:07

Have you looked on vinted?

sparklefresh · 21/10/2023 10:10

Yep, apparently the only people who buy clothes are teenage waifs. It's shit!

I am a tall person and I feel your pain. This stuff just makes me look like a Dickensian street urchin or my clothes shrank in the wash.

It's cheap. That's why high street fashion loves it.

WitchyFingers · 21/10/2023 11:26

See now, I loved cropped tops. And I have a massive middle aged mam belly but I don't care. They look great with high waisted jeans, which I am aware highlight said belly but I JUST DO NOT CARE.

WeighDownOnMeStayTillMorning · 21/10/2023 11:28

It's so annoying. Every top you see something that looks nice in a shop, oh that's lovely, hold it up on the hanger - cropped. Never mind.

Repeat 27 times and you've got the 2023 shopping experience nailed.

Wolvesart · 21/10/2023 11:30

I’m no fan of cropped either, even when I was in my 20s/30s. I also don’t like seeing kids in cropped tops, not a look for an under 10 anywhere but the beach.

T shirts this season are annoying to me on another level too. The sleeves are on the short side. I have very long arms, so even short sleeved T’s can come up looking wrong if everything is cut in a certain way.

Supportyourlocal · 21/10/2023 11:53

@WitchyFingers I am the same as you, I love crop tops and cut out dresses that show off my belly even though it’s a mum belly.

LoobyDop · 21/10/2023 11:58

It’s so bizarre, isn’t it. It’s really quite nippy out now, and there are so many young women with inches of bare skin between top and bottom. I’m firmly on the side of the Japanese belief in the paramount importance of keeping your kidneys warm and wrapped up at all times.

Comedycook · 21/10/2023 11:58

Because it's cheaper. Less material...

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 21/10/2023 11:58

Ive had the same experience in primark. Oh nice jumper, hold it up, where’s the rest of it?? Same with hoodies and vest tops. I want a jumper to keep warm so I’d like all of it please.

TheOGCCL · 21/10/2023 12:01

All goes hand in hand with incredibly high waisted bottoms (skirts/trousers/jeans). Some rises are coming down so maybe top lengths will too.

yarnwitch · 21/10/2023 12:14

Girls clothes are the same, drives me mad trying to buy even basic t shirts and jumpers for my young DD's.

WollyParton · 21/10/2023 12:15

100% with you on this. I can count on two fingers the times in my life I’ve felt comfortable exposing my midriff.

MrsSkylerWhite · 21/10/2023 12:16

No idea about trousers. Seriously unflattering unless you’ve legs like a giraffe.

Yes.
If I'm forced to choose then personally I prefer high waist with a short top as I just layer something longer underneath if I need to. Ultra waisted trousers and jeans feel really uncomfortable - I can't get past the sensation that they're about to fall down.

JL690 · 21/10/2023 12:30

The cynic in me says it's to pressure us into buying two items to get the style and covering we actually want.

Tlolljs · 21/10/2023 12:33

As a long bodied woman it’s the story of my life. If you get the next size up they just wider not longer.

LolaSmiles · 21/10/2023 13:13

I don't like the bare midriff look, but cropped length tops are ideal for high waisted jeans and trousers to avoid having lots of bulk when tucked in. They're also good for tucking into skirts as well.

electriclight · 21/10/2023 13:28

I went shopping this morning and feel the same about everything being oversized. Knitwear, blazers, even midi dresses and styles of jeans, just massive and baggy and with so much fabric flapping about.

I don't like cropped either. What's wrong with stuff that just properly fits!

Agree! Somethings cropped, fine. Some things over sized, fine. But why does everything have to be one or the other?! I hate picking up a jumper and it’s cropped with oversized batwing sleeves 😂

Things that fit properly tend to make you look better, but you just cannot buy them. I’m in my early 30’s and it feels like everywhere is catering to teenagers. If they take away my skinny jeans I will lose it.

Clothes are so bad right now. Sleeves attached halfway down the arm, too wide, too short, shit material, horrible sludge colours, yuck

Youneedtobelower · 21/10/2023 13:50

Hate short jumpers with a passion , you get vpl under your jeans, I like a longer slightly covering the bum look

greengreengrass25 · 21/10/2023 13:52

Plus the trousers that are so long and wide

I looked like Coco the clown in the ones from M&S as even the short length is too long
