I want to smell like the ocean - perfume ideas

Hi! I loved Body Shop Oceanus - I can't find anything similar or that smells like the ocean at all - every summery thing I have tried smells of coconut!

I don't want to smell like men's aftershave. Just the ocean.

Inis is the most beautiful beachy scent.
Anytime I wear it I get asked what I'm wearing.
I have a lot of v expensive perfume but Inis is the one I get asked or told I smell gorgeous.

Not relevant but does anyone remember Colors from benetton. I loved that. Can you still get it?

Colors did get relaunched in a green bottle, but it's only reminiscent of the original and not nearly as good.

I did manage to swipe a couple of original bottles (clear bottle) on ebay a few years ago, and they really take me back to the early nineties in an instant.

As soon as I read the title, my mind went straight to Oceanus! I'd love to smell that again.

I had a small bottle of M&S Seasalt & Neroli that was nice. Not the same fragrance as Oceanus, but had that sea smell and was feminine.

Just to show you how different we all are, when I read the title of this post, I was struck down wondering why someone would want to smell like seaweed, fish, effluent and all things “aromatic” from the sea 😆😆😆😆😆😆

Just remembered Beach by Bobbi Brown as well. Only really to be had on eBay these days.

Eau de Merveilles Bleue by Hermes ... I was gifted this when the Jour de Hermes I'd asked for was out of stock so was initially slightly disappointed but it's really grown on me since. I definitely get a 'standing on the sea shore' feel as soon as I put it on .... there's saltiness, but a slightly sweet, almost aniseed freshness too. Very difficult to describe properly - it's not an in your face scent at all, but it lasts well and to my nose, smells 'classy'.

You can often get batches of 2ml samples on eBay which work out cheaper than buying a larger bottle.

This is what I came on to say - Eau des Merveilles Blue night not be feminine enough for you, as it doesn't have any flowers but it genuinely smells like the sea, including salt, wood, ozone, wet sails, old ropes...but no effluent or decomposing seaweed or drying out shellfish Grin

It's very classy (too much so for me)

Molton Brown Coastal Cypress and Sea Fennel

I have the hand lotion rather than the fragrance of it but it definitely reminds me of the sea.

I have Aqua Di Gioia by Giorgia Armani which is lovely, light and fresh. They also do other variations including Ocean di Giogia.

CandyLeBonBon · 21/10/2023 15:13

Lol if you live by the south coast that would be the smell of brine, seaweed and sewage!! 😂

Petrine · 21/10/2023 15:15

Cabotine Eau Vivide Grès

or

Davidoff Cool Water

ThanksItHasPockets · 21/10/2023 15:17

Yes to L’Eau d’Issey. It has a strong aquatic note and similar floral notes to Oceanus. M&S Isis was a very close dupe.

iloveautumn3 · 21/10/2023 15:31

There are a few Oceanus body shop bits on eBay.

LuluBlakey1 · 21/10/2023 15:32

Why do you want to smell of raw sewage?

Neilsfavouritechilli · 21/10/2023 15:45

Another vote for davidoff cool water. Retro but smells divine and a nice oceany scent (not North Sea)

longtompot · 21/10/2023 15:57

This perfume has been suggested a couple of times and is gorgeous. I think it might be what you are looking for
Inis

pancakesandsunshine · 21/10/2023 16:06

Muglers Womanity

Has a briney salty note with the sweet fig notes

Sel Marin by Heeley

Hecate01 · 21/10/2023 16:38

I absolutely love perfumes in this category and I was going to say Issey Miyake or cool waters. Stay away from Versace Dylan turquoise, it's expensive and probably the weakest perfume I've ever used.

Inis might also be worth a try? https://inis.com/en/products/fragrance/

I love Rituals Ocean Infini as recommended above....my summer fragrance!

Inis is gorgeous, really fresh , I wear it daily at the moment.

Beach walk by Maison Margiela - unrivalled

for much cheaper but still hits the salty spot Salt on my Skin by Momento which I picked up at Boots

See I would go Sailing Day MAISON MARGIELA REPLICA rather than Beach Walk

tobee · 21/10/2023 17:05

That wasn't meant to be in block capitals

TTCBlues · 21/10/2023 17:13

Have you tried Inis? It's inexpensive and very fresh and oceany.

Lifeetc · 21/10/2023 18:02

Ah yes, I have that one too lurking in my stash! I will have to dig it out ☺️

Definitely Sel Marin, it's such a beautiful clean aquatic
