Anyone tint their own eyebrows??

HairyMaclairey · 13/10/2023 08:16

I occasionally get my eyebrows tinted, and really like the look, as it makes them look thicker. They are medium to dark brown. I can pluck them myself, so don't really need that part of the treatment.

It's a bit of a faff to get an appointment, and get into town to get it done, so am looking to do it at home, but obviously don't want to mess it up big time. Anyone do it themselves? If so, what products do you use and any tips?

Yes all the time. You need the colour paste and the activator. Put some vasaline around your brows to avoid staining the skin.

I use eyelur products just from amazon.

LadyBird1973 · 13/10/2023 08:39

Yes. I use eyelure too and it's really easy. I won't ever waste money on getting mine done by someone else again.
When you do it, put a bit of Vaseline around your brows to stop yourself from staining your skin (after a while you get so good at it that you can do it without) and don't buy a black dye if you have white skin. I'm white and brunette and I use dark brown, which gives emphasis but isn't too different from my natural colour

CrimsonElevenDelightPetrichor · 13/10/2023 08:40

I do mine too using Refectocil. Very easy.

Intelligenthair · 13/10/2023 08:41

I dye my hair (darkish brown) and just use a little bit of hair dye on a cotton bud at the same time.

Jewelspun · 13/10/2023 08:51

I use a man's beard dye as the colour is better and doesn't fade like some eyelash tints do.

pharmachameleon · 13/10/2023 08:52

I started doing during the first lockdown in 2020 and have returned to a salon to get them dyed since then. I bought a tube of Refectocil and activator on Amazon in 2020 and I'm still using the same tube. It's so easy and convenient.

pharmachameleon · 13/10/2023 08:53

Oh bloody hell-need to read my posts! I have NEVER returned to a salon to have them dyed!

itsgoingtobeabumpyride · 13/10/2023 08:57

I used to until I had my brows microbladed (fantastic btw)
My advice is to not leave it on too long the first time you do it, you can top them up but if they're too dark you're knackered.
Use the vaseline tip in pps

Me too. It's so easy. No need to protect with Vaseline or keep it off skin etc. Just wack it on, leave for 5 ish minutes and wipe it off.
I have quite pale brows so I use blonde dye.

LoobyDop · 13/10/2023 09:35

I do mine occasionally with Eyelure stuff. Very easy, and very satisfying how big a difference it makes to your overall look. Don’t go too dark, though.

Olika · 13/10/2023 09:38

Done it for years. So easy.

Ripleysgameface · 13/10/2023 09:53

Just for men beard is the best one for eyebrows and such a good price. £7.50 ish and lasts me a year.

pharmachameleon · 13/10/2023 10:41

I never bother with Vaseline either. I used to when I started and now I just scrape off any dye on my skin with a cotton bud and it's fine.

That's what I use. It's brilliant.

ChilliPB · 13/10/2023 11:16

I do - like PPs have said it’s so easy. Next time I’ll try the beard dye and see how it compares to eyebrow dye!

HairyMaclairey · 13/10/2023 13:17

Wow, such amazing responses.
Thx so much

Any recommendations for a Just for Me shade for dark golden blonde hair?

HairyMaclairey · 13/10/2023 13:20

I think I am going to use salons for much less. I had my eyebrows waxed and tinted a few months ago for a wedding. I came out with 2 red stripes under my eyebrows that then scabbed over and only came off about a week later.

I was really dressed up for the wedding, and had these 2 stupid red raw stripes. Plus that is dangerous!!!

So, just to clarify.

If my hair is medium to dark brown, I should get dark brown? Sometimes I come out of a salon and it looks too dark.

I use Godefroy eyebrow tint as had some reaction from others when I patch tested. I get it from Amazon. Have had to fiddle around with the amount of time to get it to stick but it's very easy otherwise.

I do occasionally still go to the salon to wax and dye because my eyesight isn't so good these days and the waxing neatens everything up.

tobee · 13/10/2023 13:26

There are all different shades for different brands. I do mine at least a day before I go anywhere special as I can look like Gerald the baby from The Simpsons. Grin Don't put the dye on for too long when doing yourself; I've got greying patchy brown brows and leave dye on for a while but I have experimented.

LadyBird1973 · 13/10/2023 14:12

I'd start with mid brown and see how you feel

This may not work for you but what I do is buy a lighter colour but leave it on for longer and it develops into a better colour than if I use a dark colour and leave it on the minimum time.

Always go light to start as you can then decide if you need to go darker the next time.

TokyoSushi · 13/10/2023 14:28

I've been wondering this too! Mid brown eyelure ordered from Amazon, it'll be here tomorrow - I'll report back!

madeinmanc · 13/10/2023 14:36

Now this is something I wish I'd done in lockdown. Would have been the ideal time to hide any bad results 😁
