Anyone tint their own eyebrows??

HairyMaclairey · 13/10/2023 08:16

I occasionally get my eyebrows tinted, and really like the look, as it makes them look thicker. They are medium to dark brown. I can pluck them myself, so don't really need that part of the treatment.

It's a bit of a faff to get an appointment, and get into town to get it done, so am looking to do it at home, but obviously don't want to mess it up big time. Anyone do it themselves? If so, what products do you use and any tips?

Yes all the time. You need the colour paste and the activator. Put some vasaline around your brows to avoid staining the skin.

I use eyelur products just from amazon.

This. I also bought some grey dye to add a more ashy tone to brown dye that came with the kit. I mix 50% grey 50% brown and it stops it from being too orangy

tunapokebowl · 13/10/2023 19:24

I use Eyelure and don't bother with Vaseline, just wipe off anywhere I don't want the dye with a damp cotton bud.

I am now interested in just for men beard dye though!

Back21970 · 13/10/2023 19:55

Been doing mine for about 30 years and my lashes.

Probably doesn’t last as long a a salon treatment but easy to do yourself monthly and a kit last ages.

Lashes a bit trickier to do than brows - I have to do my top and bottom lashes on different days as seem to get it in my eyes otherwise.

Which products do you use please? I’d like an ashy colour.

I have been using Refectocil light brown on my brows and I have dark blonde hair for the last 12 years or so. It can get quite dark if I leave it on for too long.

I am, like PP, careful not to leave on too long. I'd rather have to redo than regret!

CingsKross · 13/10/2023 20:23

I have the same colour of hair as you OP and use light brown refectocil from amazon. The darker brown shades leave my Brows looking too dark. If you choose this brand, make sure you mix it properly with the oxidiser as it won't work properly if you don't. You want a fluffy paste like consistency.

I find that eyelure never mixes properly and leaves a yellow tint on the Brows.

I've also used boxed hairdye but it never lasts as long and can be rather wasteful as you only need a tiny drop

WhatAreYouWaitingFor · 13/10/2023 20:23

I started tinting mine using Just For Men beard dye during lockdown.

Life changing!

It's so quick, easy and miles cheaper. I'll never go back to getting them done professionally.

MrsDanversChickenSandwich · 13/10/2023 20:29

It's such an easy process. Wouldn't dream of paying someone else to do it for me. I use Refectocil in shade 3.1 which gives me mid brown, but not too dark brown, brows.

I don't bother with Vaseline or anything I just slap it on and leave it for about three mins and then wash off. So easy.

SheepBeepBeep · 13/10/2023 20:31

I get Teen DD to dye mine for me. We use the eyelure stuff and only once were they a bit too dark as she left it on a bit longer and I wasn’t paying attention, but that also meant that I didn’t have to do them for months afterwards.

I’m going to investigate the beard dye now though. Thanks for the tip!

Oblomov23 · 13/10/2023 20:39

I can manage my eyebrows, but eyelashes I just can't do.

MrsDanversChickenSandwich · 13/10/2023 20:40

yeah, eyelashes are much faffier.

I used to dye my eyelashes regularly about 15 years ago and tried it again during lockdown but failed miserably?

Very interested in this. Please could any Just-For-Men users recommend a shade for an ashy blonde?

thesugarbumfairy · 14/10/2023 08:56

My son does his (hes 16) because he has a slightly odd mixture of half brown, half blonde eyebrows and he hates the blonde sides. He has the eyeLure kits and mixes dark brown and medium brown to get the right shade.

I think I am going to use salons for much less. I had my eyebrows waxed and tinted a few months ago for a wedding. I came out with 2 red stripes under my eyebrows that then scabbed over and only came off about a week later.

I was really dressed up for the wedding, and had these 2 stupid red raw stripes. Plus that is dangerous!!!

I always get this when my eyebrows are waxed so if I go to the salon now I have them threaded. Hurts so much though!!

SuperSange · 14/10/2023 11:22

I love tinting and waxing my own brows. I get the little wax strips from Amazon, and wax them after I've dyed.

MB34 · 14/10/2023 12:35

I used to go to a salon before lockdown. Then I started using Eylure during lockdown.
I don't bother with vaseline just wipe the areas around the brow with a cotton bud.

Also, don't do what I've done on a few occasions - put it on, gone to work (I wfh) and 2 hours later go to toilet and realised I forgot to take it off. Ooops

CatWithNoTeeth · 14/10/2023 15:53

Yes for over 20 years. I recommend Appraise, can get it on Amazon. I use dark brown.

MotionCapture · 14/10/2023 17:13

Tip if the brows turn out too dark: swipe a cotton pad with some glycolic lotion or an astringent toner over them and it will ‘lift’ them a little. Also good for stains on the skin.

mommybear1 · 15/10/2023 21:06

I found my first white eyebrow this week so I'm intrigued by these suggestions- I have black eyebrows and very dark brown hair what Just for Men shade should I go for? Medium Brown as everyone seems to suggest the dyes are darker? To the PP who dyes their lashes - how? 😁

BretonBlue · 15/10/2023 22:03

Just a warning that both Eylure and Just for Men contain the allergen PPD, and it’s possible to develop an allergy at any point even if you’ve used it before without issues. Do your patch tests every time, kids!

mulesrules · 15/10/2023 22:14

Daft question but would you also be able to use it on the brow area where you have little or no hair?

whatausername · 16/10/2023 00:41

You can do but it only "sticks" to hair. It can mark skin temporarily but that comes off after a shower or two. I guess you could tint what there is and fill in the rest with a pencil etc if you like

Not really. You’d be dying skin and it would look blocky and odd. You would be better considering micro blading.
