I’m getting married in 2025 so got a while to choose a dress. Looking at various styles i’m struck by how dated some look already - strapless satin ones that everyone was wearing look dated, as do ones with the little diamanté waist belt.

whats likely to stay in fashion for the next few years? I like boho style lace dresses but can already see they’ll date.

(I’m asking out of interest really, ultimately I’ll go with whatever I love and what suits me but am interested in the fashion angle

Have you tried anything on yet @Anothernamechangeee ? As I was dead set on crepe and hated the idea of mikado, but actually any crepe dress in a sheath or fit and flare just clung to my stomach (the area I'm most conscious of). Because the mikado was thicker it skimmed the curves and was much more flattering on my figure. I do like a heavy fabric mind you, I loved the Jesus Peiro dresses I tried (e.g. this) but because I'm short felt they swamped me. Apologies, I don't seem to be able to attach pics for some reason.

Sometimes things are popular because they work well on a lot of people.

shapovalov · 10/10/2023 13:45

My absolute favourite wedding dresses are from white lace & butterflies. They have a big range from classic white to dresses with delicate flowers on.

Meadowflower2023 · 10/10/2023 13:46

I love the boho style too OP. I got married in a dress very similar to this not too long ago (that's not me, I'm blonde)
I don't really have an opinion on whether it will date if I'm honest because I felt amazing in it as boho is my general style anyway so it's me to a T.

I fully appreciate its not to everyone's taste but that's okay as it was my wedding, my choice and it's me who has to look at the pictures on the gallery wall.

Congratulations on your engagement- I hope you find something you like 💐

BHLDN do the nicest dresses, the only (tiny, tiny, tiny) issue being you’d need to be going to the states at same point (or you’d have to order blind and pay massive taxes/duties). I did buy a headdress from there on the web, it was not economical but it was lovely. And if nothing else, still good for dress inspiration.

I started browsing… I want this dress so much. Damn being already married 😞

That is really beautiful, @ISpyNoPlumPie!

MayIDestroyYou · 10/10/2023 15:36

It’s rather like this post-wedding dress worn by Anya Taylor-Joy very recently.

This thread has made me go looking and I can't really see any dresses that make me wish I could get married all over again.

That Anya Taylor-Joy one is dreadful IMO. I hate those saggy droopy little sleeves, I'd be trying to pull them up all day 😆

That’s beautiful, is it Grace loves Lace?

As is this! So beautiful

it does look a bit like I’d sweat all over the armpit flaps though 😆

One of my friends got married recently and all the dresses , including bridesmaids, were second hand.
For the bridesmaids , she gave them a colour palette and they sourced from that.
It gave a truely unique and boho look and more environmentally and pocket friendly . Meadowflower2023 · 10/10/2023 16:34

@Anothernamechangeee I can't say for that dress in particular it was the nearest one to mine in my Pinterest board but yes mine was from Grace Loves Lace. I really struggled to find bridal shops that did so many boho styles like they do.

Mercurial123 · 10/10/2023 19:53

All Who Wander do a similar boho dress with more dramatic sleeves, but it's an Australian company

I think it has to be about what suits you OP.

Lace was very much in fashion when I got married and I’d seen some gorgeous lace dresses on friends, had my heart set on one.

However I am very petite with less than perfect skin and lace just seemed to make me look frumpy and extra spotty. Turned out I looked best in incredibly simple, minimal dress styles. Similarly I note a PP wanted drapey but ended up with mikado to hide a tummy.

Really you need to try some things on and work out what works for you, your figure etc. Timeless is what suits you.

In general I think simpler styles will date less than the fussy ones.

gillywee · 10/10/2023 20:16

If you don't want it to date, plain and simple is your friend.
You wouldn't really think that Courtney Cox & David Arquette got married in '99 (and Chandler and Monica in '01) by looking at these dresses.

Yettisrus2 · 10/10/2023 20:27

I had a Grecian inspired one. Very subtle crystals on chiffon, no big wafty train. Hasn't dated when I look at photos. But I was fat and hated how I looked, shame as the dress itself was lovely and fitted perfectly.

redribbonrose · 10/10/2023 20:32

I like plain and simple

Less likely to date

Bamboobars · 10/10/2023 21:10

My friend isn't aiming for either boho or virginal @NatashaDancing. The dress is actually pink

JaceLancs · 10/10/2023 21:15

How about something quite plain
I love this as the beading reminds me of the 1920s and 30s

@MayIDestroyYou Many years ago I once read in the For Sale section of the newspaper “ For sale , one droopy brown wedding dress”!!!! Amused me no end that did.

LadyBird1973 · 11/10/2023 07:52

@JaceLancs I love a dress with an interesting back - that one is gorgeous .

Courtney Cox looked beautiful (both times)

FrodoBagginsToeHair · 11/10/2023 08:12

Those Crawley outfits are the opposite of stylish - I can’t believe they were a serious suggestion!

madi lane is an Australian designer who does beautiful boho dresses. This one has a square neckline and beautiful flowy lace. You can get them in the UK
