Hello again to everyone from the last thread and welcome to anyone who enjoys talking about this aesthetic .. and if you have photos to share even better!

We've been discussing woollen jumpers, tweed skirts and jackets (with and without elbow patches), flannel trousers, fair isle tank tops, leather boots, culottes, berets and many other appealing garments, and more recently novels, poetry, libraries in general and even home decor with a DA vibe. Plus tortoiseshell spectacles and lorgnettes. I don't think we've touched on DA hairstyles yet although I've been giving that some thought ..

A DA quote I came across the other day: "I declare after all, there is no enjoyment like reading! How much sooner one tires of any thing than of a book! When I have a house of my own, I shall be miserable if I have not an excellent library." (P&P of course)

If curling up in a wing-backed armchair in front of a log fire, with candles flickering, sipping tea from a china mug while reading your Jane Austen or Bronte novel sounds appealing, this thread might be for you. Or if you just like the clothes - that works too.

Our first thread below:

And where to find it? This is how I want to dress this winter. More skirts and dresses rather than trousers as my waist is not the best and the trous...

are we considering a chain for it!? I love watch chains, and watch fobs. I have a watch fob (or two) that I wear as a pendant.

Edited

We are.Grin

Will have to wait a while before splashing out again, but a chain and possibly a fob are very much On The List...

Is anyone watching The Traitors? Claude totally belongs here!

Mirabai · 05/01/2024 09:18

Thinking of wearing with a white shirt like this (but cheaper)https://aavelle.com/products/ruffle-shirt-white

I thought the same!

TressiliansStone · 05/01/2024 12:04

Very nice tweed jackets, @Mirabai Sorry, I'm no help at all - I'd happily wear both!Grin

That style of ruffle shirt, going all the way up, might be a good 'un.

I seem to have lots of ruffle shirts which "don't quite go". Need to spend a quality day with them and my new jackets, then dispose of any still without a partner.

Mirabai · 05/01/2024 12:23

I think it might be a bit too ruffled tbh.

The green tweed jacket is a bit too obviously an actual riding jacket which is a shame as it’s good value.

OrangePumpkinLobelia · 05/01/2024 12:24

I wish i could wear a tweed jacket. Sadly I am very top heavy (broad on top with stick thin legs) so just look like a mushroom.

Today i am wearing an off white tunic dress with black stockings and a black long sleeved tshirt underneath. I bear a strong resemblance Mary Lennox from the Secret Garden. DH calls it my Victorian orphan outfit.

Tomorrow we are making a trip to the Natural History Museum. I can't wait!! I'll go full dark Academia as will DS1.

TressiliansStone · 05/01/2024 12:39

Hope you and DS havve a fabulous trip to the Nat Hist Museum!

TheDarrellRivers · 06/01/2024 06:13

@TressiliansStone It’s gorgeous!

TheDarrellRivers · 06/01/2024 06:15

@OrangePumpkinLobelia
🤩🤩🤩

TheDarrellRivers · 06/01/2024 06:19

@Mirabai
I wear my own hacking when not with my horse all the time!! 🤣
never thought to pair it with a ruffle shirt, so thank you, I think it looks brilliant.

TheDarrellRivers · 06/01/2024 06:20

@OrangePumpkinLobelia
🤣
we need an outfit update for the NHM!

worstofbothworlds · 06/01/2024 13:01

With my smaller wardrobe I'm trying to be more 1930s with outfit care as well: wearing an apron when I'm cooking, hand washing woolens more frequently and dabbing spots rather than throwing everything into an enormous wash basket and it is clean weeks later.

Chrysanthemum5 · 07/01/2024 09:46

I got a pocket watch for my 18th birthday as I always wore waistcoats and tweed jackets etc. Then I got older and stopped the waistcoats as I tried to dress older (I'm petite and felt no one took me seriously).

I'm 55 now and thinking I may bring the watch out of the drawer and get some waistcoats!

Chrysanthemum5 · 07/01/2024 09:48

@Mirabai the green one is more of a riding jacket but I love it and I'd wear it every day!

Chrysanthemum5 · 07/01/2024 10:21

And since I am with friend here let me show you the bag I bought with my savings in my liberty beauty drop account. I love it beyond measure and even looking at it makes me happy

Chrysanthemum5 · 07/01/2024 11:40

Thanks @JaneJeffer I love the beauty drop you save £20 each month and then at the end of the year I get to buy myself a treat

Interesting, I might get away with in London, but in the country people might think it odd.

Divebar2021 · 07/01/2024 16:46

The last time I went to a three day event the women were wearing those fur doughnut hats - I don’t think they’re in a position to criticise anyone else’s fashion. 😏

BonjourCrisette · 07/01/2024 18:02

@Chrysanthemum5 Your bag is beautiful! How are you finding the beauty drop thing? I have been tempted many times but so far have not succumbed.

You should definitely get the pocket watch out.

Chrysanthemum5 · 07/01/2024 19:06

I enjoy the beauty drop it's a relatively painless way of saving money to spend on things I wouldn't normally treat myself to such as lovely candles or a beautiful bag. Plus every three months they send you a box of free beauty items. I don't always like everything in the box (some of the perfumes are 🤢) but usually there will be at least one thing I really love. I don't go on to buy them usually as they are ridiculously expensive but I enjoy trying them

BonjourCrisette · 07/01/2024 22:56

Thanks! Am definitely tempted.

Chrysanthemum5 · 08/01/2024 09:31

If it helps tempt you to the dark side - my next planned purchase is a Liberty fabric silk scarf just need to save up more 😊
